I had an email this morning regarding the line up of the upcoming Taylor Hawkins tribute concert. I am a fan, but a) cannot afford it, I know it'll be expensive and b) hoping it's streamed as would be happy to pay for that instead.

Anyways, there, near the bottom "with an special appearance from Dave Chappelle"

I smelt trouble, and sure enough you can imagine what twitter is like this morning, all yikes and disappointment and heartbroken at giving up their favourite band, one going even as far to say fuck foo fighters.

I can't imagine what the band is going through in the wake of the loss of Taylor, but the pile on modus operandi of the bullies has begun reagrdless, and probably won't end until Dave Chappelle has been booted from the line up with massive pandering apologies. After which they'll be whinged at to cough up big time/ give portion of their ticket sales to trans organisations, and get a special mention at the concert itself because as we all know, nothing is good enough 🙄

One of the biggest bands in the world, and even they can't escape the hyperbolic tantrums of the woo-woo!

Just seen the Twitter outrage over Dave Chappelle. WTF?

Beamur · 15/06/2022 10:33

Let's hope the Foo's hold their nerve. They don't seem like the sort of guys to give in to bullies but they're pretty good at communicating with their fans too.
I accidentally added myself to a mailing list once! Get lots of emails 😂

PronounssheRa · 15/06/2022 10:34

I've just added myself to the mailing list

IcakethereforeIam · 15/06/2022 10:39

I saw the thread title and feared the worse. I'm actually quite heartened, I feared they'd gone tq+. The trantrums are, tbh, wearily predictable. I hope they hold the line.

Itwasntmeright · 15/06/2022 10:40

Oh fabulous, a whole other section of society who get to witness the batshit tantrums.

these silly people don’t realise that the more unreasonable you show yourself to be, the less people will listen to what you have to say.

Whatsnewpussyhat · 15/06/2022 10:42

The concert will sell out regardless of the whiny narcs and they will continue to make money, so I hope they don't pander to the TRA's

The fact they booked Dave in the first place is great because they must be aware of the shit that went on and did it anyway.

Clymene · 15/06/2022 10:54

They knew exactly what the were doing when they booked him. Yay Foo Fighters!

AlisonDonut · 15/06/2022 11:00

Please don't cave Dave.

Dave Grohl is bound to be a mumsnetter. I'm sure of it.

That would be my take too, let's hope we're right.

MountainWitch · 15/06/2022 11:18

AlisonDonut that really made me laugh
Bet he is as well

IvyTwines · 15/06/2022 11:29

I hope they don't cave in. Grunge was a movement where women felt like powerful equals, were not leeringly sexualised, men like Kurt Cobain could wear eyeliner and a dress without being compartmentalised or looking like they were doing 'womanface'. The backlash here was Britpop and new laddism, girls all 'hello boys' in little bits of lycra, Blur's Country House video with its Benny Hill shit.

PronounssheRa · 15/06/2022 11:31

This thread is being shared on twitter by our monitors 👋

Alas they struggle with humour, so appear to have taken your comment seriously

Most of the noise on twitter is from the same old faces.

Plasmodesmata · 15/06/2022 11:32

As if a few people on Twitter saying they won't go to the concert is going to make a difference to how quickly it sells out.

PronounssheRa · 15/06/2022 11:34

It will sell within minutes. I doubt the twitter moaning has even registered with the foos

MummBRaaarrrTheEverLeaking · 15/06/2022 11:34

And this thread has now been picked up on Twitter 👋why hello there stalkers, I mean completely coincidental passers by 😂

I don't get the Dave Chapelle hate. It seems to be the in thing these days. He is blunt about his points and he ties his points up very well... and he's a COMEDIAN. It's what they do but this is 2022 where everyone is looking to be offended. We will go because we love Foo Fighters and especially because Dave Chapelle will be there. I hope Foo Fighters don't cave in to the online crap.

I actually hadn't seen any of the complaints about this.. Guess it's not surprising. Some of what Dave says is just truth and truth can hurt. His last Netflix special was the best he's done and explained his points very clearly but as he says "THEY don't LISTEN".....

Incognolio · 15/06/2022 11:40

And this thread has now been picked up on Twitter

Oh good something else for the eternally offended to be offended about....

Incognolio · 15/06/2022 11:43

As if a few people on Twitter saying they won't go to the concert is going to make a difference to how quickly it sells out.

Agree. One thing both Dave's have in common is being a "master of their craft". The loudest fools who don't go won't be missed. Not like it won't be a sell out regardless..... Leaves more space for real fans to get tickets!

TitsInAbsentia · 15/06/2022 11:56

I haven't a clue who Dave Chapelle is or what the controversy is - save me googling and still not having a clue can someone clue me up!

me too

Incognolio · 15/06/2022 12:02

He basically says things like gender is a fact and other things that are true but the alphabet people don't want to hear. He says it better than that and funny at times.

He also said that he agrees with the me too movement but not how they went about it. Like wearing the same thing doesn't make a statement not turning up makes a statement. Things that make sense, but are controversial...

His last special detailed his trans friend, another comedian, who stuck up for him after the community went after him and committed suicide days after she was jumped on for defending him. He doesn't know what was going on with her but he assumes the way she was attacked for defending him had something to do with it... He makes good points and he's funny to boot but most of what he says makes sense and is very cleverly delivered. Worth watching his specials.

Incognolio · 15/06/2022 12:06

Oh and he's African American so there's a lot of comparison to the movement of his people to the movement of that community and how fast they made it happen etc.. You'd have to watch though to really see what he's saying.

We've seen him once before live on stage and I'd do it every opportunity I got going forward.

I think he is some guy with white privilege who works in radio

🎾

WolverineBluey · 15/06/2022 12:46

There must be a reason for his inclusion that gives it context, because it would always be railroaded by this issue and they must have weighed up it would be worth it.

Someone on Twitter said the Foo's media team were hiding responses from TRAs which is encouraging, but don't know how true that is. Hopefully this won't cloud what is supposed to be a tribute to a loved one - not a battle in a culture war. They won't be able to avoid questions on this now whether they want to or not.

I hope they stand their ground. Dave Grohl is probably among the leagues of the uncancellable, thankfully.
