Oh God, she's still going. Insisting that she met with them.

She seems to have met with a constituent, who happened to later be involved in A Woman's Place, but not with any of the women's organisations. Definitely not with LWD.

Instead of just saying ' ah, sorry. Made a mistake', she's insisting that she did meet with 'one of their reps'.

It's actually quite fascinating how determined she is not to admit the truth.

As far as I understand it, New Labour almost entirely purged the civil service when they came to power. Loads of people were made redundant, and new people brought in who didn't fully understand the way things worked, nor the implications of certain policy positions.

They lost so much experience with that strategy done because they thought the civil service was "Tory" and would stand in their way that they then had to bring some people back as 'consultants' to get the work done.

But it enabled to do certain things, like expand PFI practice into the public sector, without the civil service shutting it down because it would ultimately cripple the state, which is exactly what it has done. It's notable that the people who had significant reservations about the GRA in the HOL were former politicians that had worked at a high level within government. They understood the need to think about the domino effect.

Bloody hell PFI schools, a part of my past that has almost faded into blessed oblivion in my memory!

They didn't make sense when they were being built. Everyone could see it was all kinds of wrong. But still we kept building! Many an argument about the accessibility of light fittings in school atriums. But no one cared, even the man from the council, because not one of them were gong to be changing the things! But I digress!

It's actually quite fascinating frightening how determined she is not to admit the truth.

I am guessing you are not one of her constituents?

I think she's in defensive mode. Which is why she's making such outrageous posts.

Just a shower thought and I don't know it it needs its own thread, but has anyone else noticed that its OK to talk about maternity leave, periods, and the menopause. But not single sex provisions like prisons, hospitals and DV shelters?

In my opinion

Because whilst they may try to get us to use different words for those things that is about all they can do.

They can take away the means to describe ourselves. They can stop us being anywhere in a space that we can guarantee is 100% female female!

But they can not and will not and will never be able to be pregnant have periods or go through the menopause. And as much as they would like to, they can't stop us experiencing those things. So the will to fight for those isn't there, as much! especially as they are the three main "problems" with being female!

And the transmen who still have to go through those things, in the main probably don't want to talk about them that much because they don't want to actually have to accept them as part of their body.So they are not going to be shouting out loud and proud about those generally!

As in morbidly fascinating to see how she is seemingly determined to turn her electorate against her, rather than fascinating in a good way.

And no, I'm not one of her constituents. I'm in Scotland, where our Government is institutionally captured.

Deliriumoftheendless · 29/05/2022 20:39

Oh what a cock up she’s made.

Tool of the patriarchy perhaps?

or just a boner fide fool?

Who imagined, back in, say - 2004 - that we'd be here watching Labour argue over whether a woman has a penis or not.

OK as i said upthread during sleepless nights I sometimes reimagine the world if John Smith hadn't died.

Never, in the many many alternate timelines I have lived in my head has women having penises been a thing!

Oh! except the night I'd been watching old old star trek episodes, and was also slightly inebriated. That timeline took a bit of a turn. But then it also involved 👽 overlords. So.🙄

'Fresh Labour infighting broke out over trans issues today as the party chair contradicted a fellow MP on whether 'some women were born with penises'.'

www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-10865467/Labour-chair-says-fellow-MP-WRONG-argue-women-born-penises.html

How many angels dance on the head of a penis, I wonder?

Now the answer to that definitely depends on the girth rather than the length.😇 grrr that was not the one i was going for but i can't delete the little thing!

SpindleSheWrote · 29/05/2022 20:56

Thank you @Torunette about the PFI reminder - food for thought about the politics of the time.

Just one PFI school and hospital has fucked up many a town long term.

I see what you did there, are you here all week? 😀

I think she's just a knob.

Pleased to see Anneliese Dodds (finally) stand a bit of ground.

The People's Front of Judea thing is a bit dismissive. Do you treat other civil society groups like this?"

Please accept my apologies. I needed the pay cheque!

PronounssheRa · 29/05/2022 21:32

Stella should have stopped tweeting yesterday, what a fucking hot mess.

I can imagine starmer sitting head in hands mutting 'for fucks sake just stop'.

ResisterRex · 29/05/2022 21:38

This might run and run. I had to look again at the exact words:

"“Do I think some women were born with penises? Yes”, she declares. “But they are now women and I respect that.”"

And:

"biological sex is real – it’s just not the end of the conversation. I am somebody who would say that a trans woman is an adult human female"

Then:

"I wear flat shoes, I’ve got terrible bunions, is someone going to tell me that living as a woman means you have to wear high heels for two years?"

It's mad. Starmer and Labour HQ will definitely be in a spin. Just think of the Tory attack billboards - taken straight from here most likely:

For those of you not on Twitter Jess DeWahls tweeted 'But JKR I thought you were tweeting about me' JKR responded 'Of course I was talking about you Jess, all my tweets are about you' 😂

PronounssheRa · 29/05/2022 21:50

Also for those not on twitter, Stella posted this in response to Helen Joyce, yep that's the Loretta scene from life of Brian.

Freudian slip via imagery 😂

There's also just been this from SC:

mobile.twitter.com/stellacreasy/status/1531009586215493635

"Yep. When you put out briefings in the lords claiming I wished to close refuges I stopped taking you seriously as a campaigner as so offensive and patently wrong. Since then you have continued to encourage such myths so no option but to stop you including me in those messages."

And this reply from Maya:

mobile.twitter.com/MForstater/status/1531014039421304839

"No I have never suggested Stella Creasy wants to close refuges.

I have suggested that it would better to measure violence against women (without getting confused between men and women) than “perceptions of hostility related to gender”."

Mollyollydolly · 29/05/2022 21:54

I feel honoured she's just quote tweeted me.

Wow, really?

Mollyollydolly · 29/05/2022 22:06

She implied grassroots feminists are like the People's Front of Judea but I think she'd forgot what the Loretta sketch is actually about.

I think she knows perfectly well. Honestly I think she's just getting a kick trolling then crying victim.

I think there's some truth in that. I can see her now standing up in parliament with a heartbreaking speech about the trolling and abuse she suffered on social media. She's that disingenuous.
