Supernature is taking absolutely, absolutely no prisoners. I am 7 minutes in with a mojito in hand.

I love him for his stance on veganism. The animals need him in their corner.

I'm still waiting for the figures detailing how many trans people were murdered after Netflix aired the Chappelle show.

So tired of the "this will lead to the deaths of trans people...". Hasn't happened so far, whilst the suicide rate of those who transition and realise it hasn't solved their problems remains high.

A tweeter about Ricky Gervais show:

Ricky Gervais is a disgrace, he is going to cause hate crime and ultimately the death of Trans folk.

Give us the stats people, verified numbers.

RichardBarris · 24/05/2022 22:42

Can’t to start watching!! It’s going to be huge if the trailer is anything to go by.

I don't get the blanket problem with "punching down". Of course there are times when people have mocked minority groups or less-privileged groups in a way that is unacceptable.

These groups can't be totally untouchable though. To pick a minority group that I'm part of, people with coeliac disease have physical symptoms to deal with, have to spend more of their income on food, are restricted in what events they can fully participate in, and often struggle against a general perception that their dietary needs aren't that big a deal or that they're just looking for attention.

But if a group of people, including a few coeliacs and some people with other gluten intolerance but also allies and some people who feel a bit bloated if they eat an entire baguette, were to go round demanding that everyone must be aware all the time of everything's gluten-containing status, and that all people who say they feel they have a gluten intolerance must be given free food, and that all restaurants must be able to supply guaranteed gluten-free food even if they're a branch of Wheaty McRyebread's Gluterrific Bread 'n' Beer Emporium — and yelling that not doing these things means you're literally murdering coeliacs — then why shouldn't people joke about that and mock it?

Good analogy!

The idea that trans "folk" are all going to think "Ricky Gervais was mean I'll jump in the river" is funny rather than sad. It shows the silliness of the emotional manipulation. There is more than 1 TV channel to watch

ThinkingaboutLangClegosaurus · 24/05/2022 23:02

Thanks for the "Repent, motherfucker" link. Comedy gold! And I love the guy the mob was screeching at -- a real hero. I would have been running for my life.

Handsoffmyrights · 24/05/2022 23:05

Take notes, Stewart Lee.

Thank you Ricky for not cutting your cloth to fit this year's fashion, as Stewart does.
He nails it. He is not afraid.

Haha, I LOVE this man, I can't wait to watch it.

GoingOnce · 24/05/2022 23:08

It’s totally brilliant.

BlackForestCake · 24/05/2022 23:10

Actually Gervais is probably saving teenagers from harming themselves. The more the sex denialist ideology is mocked and ridiculed, the less danger vulnerable and impressionable young people are in of being drawn into it.

2Rebecca · 24/05/2022 23:15

I agree. The Life of Brian sketch was correct. It is all very solly

2Rebecca · 24/05/2022 23:16

Silly

ErrolTheDragon · 24/05/2022 23:30

We only do one subscription at a time so don't have Netflix at the moment so I'll have to wait.

Meanwhile, a reminder that Gervais used to have his pronouns on Twitter.......they were "he, he, he" .Grin

CatherinaJTV · 24/05/2022 15:54

He was fun when he was punching up, then midlife crisis hit (is my interpretation), he lost a lot of weight, and went all fatshaming and ableist. Not funny anymore (and I adored his work before).

Having watched the special, it's not going to be for you. The joke about punching down had me in stitches.

I have never seen that before. When the one with the tambourine started shouting, all I could hear was Buddy saying oh, he's an angry elf.

Wineat5isfine · 25/05/2022 00:01

Loved it - sheer genius. No stone minority is left unturned, so in theory no-one can be specifically offended.

I am a staunch feminist and laughed myself silly throughout the entire hour.

We, as a society, can’t go through life being offended at everything. We are entitled to believe what we believe and NOT have to agree with anyone who has different beliefs, or have them forced upon us!

MagnoliaTaint · 24/05/2022 11:22

That was just Ricky reading the Green Party London meeting minutes from last night, I believe.

😂

PurpleButterflyWings · 25/05/2022 00:22

I must admit I haven't seen anything like this for probably 30 years.

I'm actually still trying to process it LOL ... it's like he just did everything he could to pack as much offensive crap in as he could lmfao.

TheBiologyStupid · 25/05/2022 00:44

Artichokeleaves · 24/05/2022 20:52

Oh that is truly beautiful batshittery 😂

It's actually truly scary when they break his placard leaving him holding just the handle and then shout "He's got a weapon" and try to set the mob on him. Duplicitous humourless arseholes.

Downunderduchess · 25/05/2022 00:57

Thanks for the reminder I will watch later! I loved The Closer btw.

TheBiologyStupid · 25/05/2022 00:58

Thanks, Magnolia!

he's been sh*t for a while - all he's got left is being "crass". He used to be cleverer than that.

You know what's crass?
Saying that women have penises.
Especially to the rape victims of the men who self identify as women.
