Woman's Place UK Bristol meeting on May 3rd (come give me a hug if you want to)

Dear wonderful women,

Just a final reminder that we are having an excellent WPUK event in Bristol on May 3rd at 7pm. This is an event in partnership with fellow feminist organisation With Woman, and we are focusing on the topics of: feminism, birth and motherhood. The amazing speakers will be Victoria Smith, Mara Ricoy, Marianne Hester and Milli Hill and I will be chairing the event.

It has been a long time since our first Bristol event in Feb 2018, and I feel like this will be a celebration of how far we have come. Still a long way to go campaigning for sex-based rights!! But we are making strides and growing so much along the way, that it will be really nice to see each other, enjoy a powerful event and catch up afterwards. I have a feeling many women will want to give me a hug so I'm ready to be hugging everyone left and right, but please know that I am doing alright. Always grateful for all the kindness and solidarity.

Not sure if Mumsnet lets me post it here, but the description of the event on Eventbrite is the following: "Midwife means 'with woman' and woman-centred care is still not guaranteed. In the midst of the current maternity crisis, how do we centre the needs and experiences of women? Our speakers explore the themes of birth and motherhood, obstetric violence as violence against women, mothers' experience of domestic violence and the importance of sex-based language and feminist analysis."

Hope you can make it. Please spread the word to get the last tickets. We'll get the videos up for those who can't be there and we'll have a great security team with us during the night to cover all our bases. There might be a really cool party afterwards too! ;)

Lovely to hear from you @RaquelRosarioSanchez and that you are keeping well. You are an absolute inspiration to me. I won’t be able to make the Bristol meeting but I wish you all a wonderful evening. I suspect you will be buoyed by the level of support you receive on the night. X 💐

unwashedanddazed · 27/04/2022 18:01

Just booked mine. But I'm not a hugger! I might smile at you from a distance though 😁

thinkingaboutLangCleg · 27/04/2022 18:12

Sorry I can't make it, Raquel. Caring for an elderly relative -- you know, one of those typically feminine activities that transwomen are so eager to take part in😀. But I'm sending you lots of virtual hugs, plus sisterly solidarity to you and all your team.

TheGreatATuin · 27/04/2022 18:13

Hi Raquel, I'm going to be there! It'll be my first Woman's Place event and I'm really looking forward to it. It looks like it'll be fascinating.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 27/04/2022 18:22

Virtual hug Raquel, your courage is inspiring Flowers

Binglebong · 27/04/2022 18:31

Oooh didn't know Woman's Place was back. Is there a way to get alerts so I can see if one happens near me?

nzborn · 27/04/2022 19:04

I can't find it on Eventbrite can I have more info please

PonyPatter44 · 27/04/2022 19:04

This sounds brilliant- I hope it will be a fantastic evening. I am a LONG way from Bristol so won't be able to make it, but I wish you all the luck in the world, and send a virtual hug 😊

Kendodd · 27/04/2022 19:07

Is there a link for tickets?

RhinestoneCowgirl · 27/04/2022 19:15

I live in Bristol and have just booked a ticket, thanks for posting this, as I hadn't heard about it.

RaquelRosarioSanchez · 27/04/2022 19:17

I don't know if we're allowed to post links to pages that you need to pay for on Mumsnet, but the link is here.

I'm so sorry I can't attend. I wish I could. Am hoping for an event further into Devon/Cornwall at some point in the future and then I'll be there!

RaquelRosarioSanchez · 27/04/2022 19:25

In any case, if you google "A Woman's Place is With Women: Feminism, Birth and Motherhood Eventbrite", you should be able to find it.

You can subscribe to Woman's Place UK on womansplaceuk.org by giving them us follow on Eventbrite and you should get a notification every time there's a new event. You can also subscribe to WPUK and get the newsletter that have all the information on events and other campaign activities.

It'll be somewhere relatively central and but they'll only reveal it on the day of the event, and then by e-mail to ticket holders.
Its to stop activists mobbing the venue with complaints to try bully them into cancelling.

KittyLeMew · 27/04/2022 21:51

Sending you massive virtual hugs! I can’t make this event but would love to come in future, will you be doing more?

I’ll also happily keep contributing to your crowdfunder :) I hope Bristol do the decent thing (for once) and don’t make you pay costs.

stimpyyouidiot · 27/04/2022 22:04

I would love to be there but it is impossible for me geographically and with work and childcare. I hope it all goes well!

Clymene · 27/04/2022 22:15

I would love to come but am too far away. But will watch online when it's up (and am sending you a virtual hug)

FannyCann · 27/04/2022 22:27

Thanks for posting Raquel. It's just over two years since covid cancelled an event I was excitedly looking forward to and I'm delighted to be able to sign up for this one.

EmbarrassingHadrosaurus · 28/04/2022 18:34

If I can book travel back on the night then I'll see you there. I'll be so sorry to miss this if I can't.

RhannionKPSS · 28/04/2022 18:42

Good to see you Raquel
I’m a very long way from Bristol but wishing all of you attending the very best for a peaceful & excellent meeting.

StrongOutspokenOftenIrritating · 28/04/2022 19:51

I’d love to come but I have a toddler and a baby attached to me at all times. Probably not an entirely appropriate combination.
