I love "I don't give a fuck" version of JK Rowling. She's on Twitter just now (ish) obviously praising Allison Bailey and generally supporting Lesbian Visibility Week for actual lesbians.

She's such a tonic

I'm a married lesbian. Obviously I disagree with Emma Nicholson on some fundamentals, but I don't see any reason to exclude her from public life as a result, or to ignore the fact that she obviously does have a genuine interest in and commitment to women's rights. It's fascinating to me that some people think everyone has to agree on everything...! That seems so authoritarian and unnatural to me.

The accurate term for an 'inclusive lesbian' is bisexual 🙄

Or heterosexual male?

PriamFarrl · 25/04/2022 21:12

Why is it lesbians who are always expected to be inclusive? I’ve heard many gay men say that they like cocks and not fanny. No one even looks up at that.

SpindleInTheWind · 25/04/2022 17:58

I do sometimes wonder why our own dear DizzyOfManc seems so very jealous of the well-liked billionaire JK Rowling. My mystery to unravel, I suppose.

😂

What a 👸

DoubleShotEspresso · 26/04/2022 00:19

She is truly a goddess in her responding methods- I've been hugely entertained by her Twitter posts this evening

donquixotedelamancha · 26/04/2022 01:02

"Lesbian Visibility Week was founded by an inclusive lesbian, not a transphobic one."

Took me a minute to figure out what this meant. Next time could you just write 'lesbian who likes cock' for clarity?

donquixotedelamancha · 26/04/2022 01:09

Do you think she still feels that "for a child to grow up with two lesbian mothers is neither normal nor natural"?

Did she say that, I can't find a quote? I thought Baroness Nicholson was supportive of gay rights but against the gay marriage bill at the time for quite complex technical reasons.

(Or am I mixing her up with another peer).

Ides · 26/04/2022 01:20

Writes great fantasy novels, but is a bit of a nitwit and somewhat embarrassing when it comes to gender politics. Should slap on some more lip-gloss and stick at what she knows best, I feel. :)

Ides · 26/04/2022 01:22

Bless! I'm glad to see that you feel comforted by her opinions. :)

Baroness Nicholson writes fantasy novels? Every day's a school day on MN.

I want to meet her so badly just so I can tell her how bloody wonderful I think she is

I think I'd melt into a puddle of stammering fan girl!

You appear to have mistakenly posted on the MN feminsim board. Were you looking for /r/TheRedPill?

OutlookStalking · 26/04/2022 01:52

"Slap on lip gloss" 🤔.

CorvusPurpureus · 26/04/2022 02:18

PP has a bit of a thing about JKR & lip gloss.

My work's alphabet group promoted lesbian visibility week today...and made it very clear it was for LGBTQI+ women & nonbinary, as well as lesbians, specifically in that wording order. Nice eh.

And then said the most important thing was unity with ALL women, esp those of marginalised communities. Guess who they mean here? The Most Oppressed Group of course, aka not boring shitty actual females.

So let's look at this assertion that LVW is about LGBTQI+ women ...

L - yes, correct..please stop there. Oh gawd you're not going to stop there are you? Of course you're not...

G means gay men so nope, unless you mean lesbians who call themselves gay in which case okay, but this isnt what's meant by the G part of the alphabet

B are bisexuals so no, you know, because bi women aren't actually lesbians

T women are transwomen so hell the no not these, and as they specified WOMEN they're excluding transmen from the T here

Q may include lesbians who describe themselves like that so okay, but def not the rest of the Qs

I - are nothing to do with this & many have asked not to be lumped with the rest like this, if they're female & lesbian they're included in the L part

'+' ...is what the hell & definitely nothing to do with lesbians

So the only emphasis of the email to the entire workplace was to make LVW inclusive of most alphabet people especially the poor oppressed males, but excluding transmen. Nice eh? Lesbians have to be the coat holders for everyone else but can't even have a lesbian visibility week that actually centres them. I may have sworn several times reading that pile of steaming nonsense.

I could just hear this Sound of Music style:

L, a dear, an inclusive dear
G, only always a man or son
B, for bi, they call themselves
T, must be included by everyone
Q, white, straight, and probably wed
I, sidelined by those above
A, not interested in a double bed
That will bring us back to Do, oh, oh, oh

The poster attached the newspaper clipping with the quote to the post you quoted.

She also sponsored a bill to reduce the gestational time limit for abortion to 12 weeks at the end of 2019.

Yes, our Jo is a bit of a nitwit when it comes to the debate about transwomen in general.

I dunno. I mean, there's no denying that she's done well with her Harry Potter books. But she does come across as somewhat cretinous Daily Mail-ish when she starts to talk about transwomen and related stuff. It really isn't her forte and I feel slightly embarrassed for her. She got herself embroiled in it all some years ago, and now it seems she can't get out of it.

It's even more cringe-inducing, to be honest, when the GC crowd hang on to her every word, as though she's an intellectual colossus on the subject. She isn't. She's just a very lucky novelist.

Ach, whatever. I made my sister burst into tears about all this stuff, complaining of transwomen (though she'd never met a transwoman, or even knowingly seen one, in her entire 56 years) ... I don't want to do the same here, in lovely, cuddly and cosy Mumsnet. :)

Pawtriarchal · 26/04/2022 02:59

’Our Jo, the nitwit’ - would that be the billionaire Joanne Rowling, CH OBE HonFRSE FRCPE FRSL, philanthropist and prolific author. That Jo? She’s been called worse by the beardy mansplainers. I picture Vernon Dursley. I’m sure she’ll cope.

OutlookStalking · 26/04/2022 03:00

Hmm no.

Anyway - I'm not brilliant at twitter but just went and found some fantatic tweets of hers which made me properly laugh.

It's great what she is doing.

StopStartStop · 26/04/2022 03:01

Erm, if a certain group of people are the 'Most Oppressed Group', can we call them 'moggies'?

The bold is courtesy of mn. Personally, I'm not so emphatic.

CorvusPurpureus · 26/04/2022 03:14

She's doing an absolutely glorious job.

Firstly, standing for women (& her support today for Allison Bailey is tremendous). & secondly, in the general field of no longer giving a fuck.

She's upset even more wingnuts than usual, though, & I hope she's got decent security going on. The rage being generated by some inadequate men is palpable...& yes obviously most of them are just frothing crossly on twitter from a basement, but I do still hate the way this has placed her under siege, simply for speaking kind common sense.
