And if all a person can say in defence of their view is that they're entitled to have it, they're usually full of shit.

This! Perfectly put.

LittleWhingingWoman · 13/04/2022 22:13

@SpinningMeSoftly

Well here's what I reckon.

The Guardian should open comments on all of OJ's columns.

WineTHIS is the post of the week!
DanceToTheMusicOf · 13/04/2022 22:15

When I was new to OJ a few years ago he was involved in some hoo-ha and there was a Twitter blowup. I had no opinion on him but the main thing that struck me was just how many journalists really disliked him, across the board. It wasn’t just people who pick fights or like to be nasty and encourage pile-ons either, it was lots of reasonable people too.

ControversialOpening · 13/04/2022 22:29

Has anybody managed to track down where the statement from the 'Guardian spokesman' came from?

I'm not suggesting that LOJ made it up, but I would like to read the full statement.

Lynnthesearesexnotgenderpeople · 13/04/2022 22:35

Omg this is so true!

Rent free?
Not really.

He's Percy Prefect.

Terfydactyl · 13/04/2022 22:54

He has a twin sister and a mother that im pretty sure he doesnt hate
I feel so sorry for the sister and mother.

@Ereshkigalangcleg

It’s like OJ and Jo M have lost their powers of basic reason.

They really have. This is your brain on gender identity ideology.

This is what I see on Twitter now that I have spent a week or so there. Any concern, however carefully framed and however compromise in character, results in immediately being told that the comment just killed 100 trans children somewhere.

The extreme and exaggerating language that the trans activists use is why debate just is not possible.

This is a pretty nasty name-calling thread.

Vargas · 13/04/2022 22:59

Cancelling my Guardian subscription was definitely the right move. OJ is a misogynist little shit and I'm so glad his bullying is being seen by more and more people.

Vargas · 13/04/2022 23:03
@EmbarrassingHadrosaurus Well i could, but i have just as much right to express my opinion a you do and as any of us on here do. No ones opinion is any better or worse than anyone elses. We can agree to disagree but im just saying that none of us has worked with him personnally so we dont know and i dont think he deserves the relentless pile on he is subjected to every day on twitter. Thats all, i have no horse in this race.
If your dc was ill would the opinion of your GP or your postman be more important?

Not all opinions are equal.

Owen campaigns heavily for the removal of women’s rights. A bit of name calling should be the least he can expect. Any sympathy I have for men like him evaporated quite a while ago.
KittyLeMew · 13/04/2022 23:18

You live by the sword you die by the sword. LOJ has been cancelling women for years - he tried to cancel parents struggling with their children declaring themselves trans. We know he bullied Suzanne Moore but the Guardian wouldn’t proceed with a disciplinary because she was freelance, which I find utterly horrifying. Now we know he’s been proven to bully another colleague, along with all the other women he harasses and encourages his following to harass. BRING ON THE CANCELLATION. I have my special CANCELLED stamp to make the process official. Grin

PurgatoryOfPotholes · 13/04/2022 23:20

@Tana433

I find it quite hilarious how OJ seems to live rent-free in so many people's heads. Unless you know him personnally, you have no idea if he is a bully or not. He stands up for trans rights ( topic i confess i do not know nearly enough about much less understand) Why would you say he hates women? He has a twin sister and a mother that im pretty sure he doesnt hate. It could be said that there are many on here that hate men. I honestly dont get it. Live and let live. If you dont like him then ignore him, i doubt he will loose much sleep over it.
This is even more hilarious than the old script of "I'm not sexist! Some of my friends are women!" "I'm not islamophobic! Some of my friends are Muslim!" "I'm not racist! Some of my friends are black!"

You haven't even been willing to go as far as claiming that some people from the relevant group (women) voluntarily associate with him. Just that some of the group (women) are related to him!

Every single raving misogynist in the world has a mother, and probably some more female relatives too. If having female relatives was enough to prevent misogynistic behaviour, it wouldn't exist.

Organictangerine · 13/04/2022 23:26

Owen will only associate with women who unquestioningly go along with the gender woo-woo anyway eg Ash Sarkar.

This is classic DARVO. In response to other people coming forward talking about their experiences of being subjected to a pile on, the reaction is to present OJ as a martyr because of his support for transgender rights. This conveniently ignores the fact that actually OJ gets involved in any number of debates ranging from cleaners' pay to anti semitism.
PurgatoryOfPotholes · 14/04/2022 05:39

Indeed. See his reaction to jewish people who looked askance at the cover of the Spanish translation of his book. I accept that Jones may have had no control over what artwork was used on the cover of foreign editions.

I don't accept that he handled himself correctly when the subject was raised.

Highlighted tweet

If this had been a matter concerning any other prejudice, I assume Owen would have taken a moment to reflect. Instead, he responded within 3 minutes with: "what the hell is wrong with you".

No time even to take a closer look or ask his Jewish friends for a second opinion. 2/7 t.co/Ue4GamGcQp

Sooo? We're not being nice?

Oh noes, I'm just not giving a damn right now.

Alltheprettyseahorses · 14/04/2022 08:07

I remember him starting a pile-on against 2 young girls who spoke about being friends while having different political viewpoints, Labour and Tory, and when it backfired on him and one of the girls kindly offered support he kicked off again at her. He tweeted at a university as well demanding they sack a lecturer immediately for gawd knows what. Even beyond his behaviour, I don't know what value the Guardian thinks he has to offer.

He's a pretty nasty individual. Just because we are women we are meant to be nice, eh? Even about a misogynist who campaigns for the erosion of women's sex based rights. Hmm
