Oh, I'm so bored.

Here they go... twitter.com/MonsoonUK/status/1513811068686155778?s=20&t=zQnlx9T5PprC0S2v-ECHxQ

Another one off the list. Who do they think spends lots of money with them?

I thought they'd gone bust

Calennig · 12/04/2022 11:07

On 10 June 2020, during the COVID-19 pandemic in the United Kingdom, Monsoon Accessorize went into administration and was then bought by its founder, who planned 35 UK store closures with the loss of 545 jobs.

Their quality went massively downhill IMO but prices didn't so not really somewhere I'd look in now.

Me too🤷🏼‍♀️

Did they not do menswear back in the day too?

tabbycatstripy · 12/04/2022 11:17

That’s a no, then.

WinterTrees · 12/04/2022 11:18

Monsoon really suffered from not managing to stay current and adapt their brand to changing trends. Or trying to, and just getting it wrong.

This is further evidence of the same.

Awkwardy · 12/04/2022 11:26

Everyone I know is doing a lot more online clothes shopping anyway.

OP posts:
LK1972 · 12/04/2022 11:27

Oh no, I like their scarves and tops, just got some onlineSad

Someone should send them the new EHRC guidance for service providers.

I shall question them next time I'm physically in store, if they go the way of M&S I'll write a letter to CEO detailing how much I've spent with them over the years and promising not to spend another penny until they reverse this bullshit.

These shops are forgetting their core customers and it'll not end well for them.

FloatOn · 12/04/2022 11:34

Awk ffs, I'd just commented on Charlies' post congratulating Monsoon. Why do they always bow down to these people, all they want is attention and a dress that goes spiny. ugh.

EdithStourton · 12/04/2022 11:37

So what happens if you're an actual woman and complain about a bloke in the changing rooms? Do your feelings not count then?

Whose fucking side are they on?
(Rhetorical question)

IvyTwines · 12/04/2022 11:43

I clicked on the tweet and this is what Twitter showed me immediately after the Monsoon reply. I don't 'follow' either of these people, but I guess Twitter felt the need to shove their opinions about JKR and co in my face.

To be fair, there's nothing wrong with male people wanting to try on dresses. It's regressive to say that these are women's clothes only. It's a tricky one. Could an assistant not have supervised the changing rooms (assuming there were secure cubicles for everyone)? I guess easy to say and harder to implement if they don't have the staff.

The assistant should have kindly escorted this person and their dress to the male changing room, if one is available. Otherwise they can buy online and return if not happy, just like women now have to do if they want to try something on in M&S, due to their fucking lunacy.

If this person is allowed in, I can't use their changing rooms, they have curtains, not doors on cubicles in my local monsoon, ffs

Nothing wrong whatsoever with male-bodied people wanting to try on dresses. I don't think for one moment that clothes are limited to one sex or the other. If you're a male-bodied person and you want to try on/buy/wear a frock, fill your boots.

But the entirely separate issue is of male-bodied people in women's changing rooms. I can't imagine many stores would want the PR nightmare/inevitable Twitter hoo-haa of having to ask someone if they're trans AND supervise them in the changing rooms (can you imagine the accusations of discrimination?) so we're left with two options. 1) exclude male-bodied people from female-bodied people spaces or 2) allow male-bodied people free rein even if that puts female-bodied people at risk from those who would misuse this right for malicious ends. Option 1 seems the path of least harm to me.

Nellodee · 12/04/2022 12:06

The monsoon near me doesn't sell "men's" clothes, so they don't have a male changing room. Would this mean they were in breach of the equalities act if they gave females a place to change and not males? I can see this being a big problem for a lot of small "women's" clothes shops if so.

knittingaddict · 12/04/2022 12:12

All the Monsoon stores I've ever been in had curtains, not doors. Curtains are problematic at the best of times. That is not a safe space if men are permitted to enter.

I've done more and more online shopping for clothes and this is the final straw for me. 100% online shopping it is.

I agree, that is something that needs to be clarified, using the Equality Act and EHRC guidance, by judges, when Charlie's claim for not being allowed to terrify women in their changing rooms reaches courts.

Until then, he can buy the dress and try it on at home. My heart fucking bleeds, try clothes shopping with three toddlers in tow.

Thelnebriati · 12/04/2022 12:17

AFAIK, Monsoon dont have male changing rooms as they only sell women's clothing.

So they need to rename the changing rooms to 'mixed sex' to make it clear who may be in them.

Totally agree, curtains in my local Monsoon, not great for the body conscious as it is.

My solution is to actually go there and ask them questions, speak to the floor stuff to get clarity. If they confirm men are allowed in their female changing rooms I plan to make fuss/write letters to owners/MPs/EHRC. I will not roll over and let my money finance this fuckery.

Body Shop and Lush have both lost my custom, I'm sure I can easily find clothes elsewhere.

We live in a capitalist democracy: no money or votes for those who don't know who women are or what we need.

334bu · 12/04/2022 12:24

Not getting much support on Twitter. Maybe should have thought of their target market.

If it's clearly labeled I have to issue, but the same choice as Charlie the male complainer - no place to try the clothes on.

The shops might need to make a choice about who they inconvenience, males or a large proportion of females, especially if they specialize in women's clothes.

Or at the very fucking least invest in doors in the changing rooms!

LK1972 · 12/04/2022 12:27

*I have no issue, not ' I have to issue'

Stayinginbedtoday · 12/04/2022 12:28

Our local monsoon was a nightmare anyway for being leered at by men who seemed unable to give wives and partners a minute to themselves whilst trying things on. The only decent full length mirror was outside the ill-fitting curtain and seemed to have an incredible draw for the assorted male bodied people who wouldI hover, waiting. Bah another shop off the list.

Rhannion · 12/04/2022 12:40

Charlie is clearly a grifter , I can see this happening all over the place. Wee grifters like Charlie causing a pile on & spineless, pathetic shops handed out free clothes to brats like him.
Remember Monsoon also own Accessorize so that two shops on my list of companies to ignore.

GizmosEveningBath · 12/04/2022 12:46

I feel for the shop assistants who are now going to be 'investigated' for protecting female spaces.

IvyTwines · 12/04/2022 12:59

According to Charlie's twitter bio, Charlie is the 'chair and trans rep' of Young Liberals. Someone on the Twitter thread is saying Charlie is 21, which if true is a bit old for a prom dress.
