Sky News.

He thinks it's unfair for biological men to compete in women's sports.

He says it's important to preserve women's spaces.

Says he has a lot to learn about the issue but we have to be sensible.

OP posts:
tempester28 · 06/04/2022 17:31

I imagine that really is his opinion to be honest.

SelfPortraitWithPterodactyl · 06/04/2022 17:35

Yes, I do feel for the posters who apparently haven't yet engaged with the possibility (indeed, probability) that one day they may find themselves voting for someone they profoundly disagree with on many issues, because the alternative is worse. It's a shame when you lose your innocence and realise that our democracy is imperfect, and that most of a voter's job is working out where her priorities lie, and that sometimes a Bad Person is the best option.

On the question of pragmatism, and whether Johnson can be relied on, these arguments remind me of that old logic puzzle with the two guards, except this time the question is: one guard says he'll hit you, and he always tells the truth. The other one says he won't hit you, but he might be lying. Which path do you take? Hmm

Franklin12 · 06/04/2022 17:36

I dont think Starmer believes it. But there is something rotten in the heart of Labour that is driving this behaviour.

Most of us can see its bloody stupid and makes them look like twats. Would you vote for a party whose stance is that women will not have safe places, your young daughter WILL have to stand beside a boy transitioning maybe without his parents knowing.

Your Mum will be in hospital perhaps having broken her hip lying next to a Self ID'd man who might or might not be up to no good.

Let alone the rapists who want to go into women's safe spaces because they are now ID'ing as a women.

Its a pile of shite and Labour are spouting it. Surely they know, they monitor the media coverage or have they got Sarkar and Jones (two people who have the most odd ideas) guiding them.

I hope Labour get slaughtered in the next election over this. 51% of the population will care about this (not 1%, 51%!!). Yet they continue to spout rubbish.

Will be interesting how the news and media outlets pick this up. I hope they dont let it rest.

BlessedByTheShitFairy · 06/04/2022 17:37

Well he can still fuck off.

Me too. It's not exactly controversial is it, or it has only become contradictory recently in our through the looking glass world.
Franklin12 · 06/04/2022 17:39

I also think Boris believes what he is saying. I dont see him as someone who believes in Self ID regardless and giving drugs to children without parental consent.

TheNameOfTheRoses · 06/04/2022 17:42

That said I agree with them and reluctantly would vote for them as I cannot vote labour or Lib Dem as o usually do this is a hill I will die on.

That’s the whole point.

To ensure that people who normally would NEVER endorse their policies on the NHS/poverty/immigration/civil liberties etc… will still vote for them :(:(

So we will be able to say that we have sex segregated sports (nothing about see seggregated spaces) but we won’t be able to go down in the street to demand more equality at work or to have a vigil or the express issues with the Met re racism/sexism etc…

Great idea in their part.

Turkey voting for Christmas.

Fireflygal · 06/04/2022 17:45

Angela Rayner's response just reinforces Labour's belief and policies.

bellinisurge · 06/04/2022 17:46

I'm spoiling my paper. Again. If that means tbe Tories end up winning again, it's not on me. I have no one to vote for. And I will not vote to erase women.

Kreuzberg · 06/04/2022 17:47

However much I agree with Johnson on this issue I really couldn’t bring myself to vote for the tories. Still think it’s a cynical ploy to win votes and they care as much for women’s rights as they do poverty and inequality- which is actually very little. Couldn’t live with another 5 years of austerity. Just hope this will spur Starmer on to say something similar (although hasn’t he said something already in the same vein)

SelfPortraitWithPterodactyl · 06/04/2022 17:47

Yep, Roses, I think we all agree it's politically savvy. No one here is naively saying, "Ah, aren't they wonderful, I didn't realise," you know. So how should women vote, if this is the hill we'd die on? And please don't say choose another hill.

SwissBall · 06/04/2022 17:47

Let’s not forget that JKR called out Keir Starmer, QC and former head of the CPS, for misrepresenting the Equality Act. Why is someone with such a close relationship to the law allowing this ideology to ride roughshod over it? Not to mention undermining his own credibility in the process. That is really concerning from someone so supposedly principled.

nauticant · 06/04/2022 17:48

Surely it's obvious that the solution is for Labour to move to a rational position that has general support by the public rather than one based on identity politics activism of an extreme sort, and that the way to enable this solution is for voters to turn their back on what Labour is offering. That's what's happening in this thread. Labour are not going to move to rationality as a result of being supported by their natural voters who absolutely loathe what they're offering.

This is how democracy works. But some people seem to think it working in this way is wrong.

HellonHeels · 06/04/2022 17:49
Yes@CatherinaJTV. We know. We know that Boris is a lying hypocrite who impoverished the country to get a promotion and then presided over a string of parties during lockdown while others were fined £10000. We did notice that.

But every other party is chanting “transwomen are women” while lobbying for the erasure of women’s safe spaces and dignity and throwing away children’s safeguarding procedures. So there is no one else to vote for.

It sucks.

Quite. Why do you think we are so furious with Labour? Many of us would love to vote for a left-wing party/credible opposition. That is exactly the point.
This this this!!!!

What is driving Starmer on this?

Is it his key party members pushing it or funding

nauticant · 06/04/2022 17:53

Just in case my post looks targeted at those voting Labour, I fully support posters to vote for who they want, whether that's Labour, Conservative, or whoever. The thing I cannot stand is those posters who are saying that someone has to vote in a certain way.

crispsarny · 06/04/2022 18:01

This makes no difference to me, fucking women over has happened on their watch, didn’t they put the GRC up for consultation? Elections coming up that’s the only reason Boris is saying this. NONE of the political parties give a shiny shit about women especially the Tories.

borntobequiet · 06/04/2022 18:07

I’ve emailed my Tory, female, MP to say I’m pleased to hear some sense for once from her leader and others, reminded her that she was very dismissive of my concerns when I raised them with her a couple of years ago, and said I hope she’s changed her mind now.

ImAvingOops · 06/04/2022 18:11

Calling people with legitimate concerns 'gammons' always goes so well in this country doesn't it? And this is why the left always fucks it up and loses support - they just can't help themselves from being dismissive and insulting!

crispsarny · 06/04/2022 18:12

I can’t vote for them look at what they’ve done to this country, they are evil criminals, robbing fucking scumbags, sold our country off to dodgy foreign regimes, look at what they’ve done to us all, continuously playing every single section of society off, they hate women, the poor, the disabled, anyones fair game for a good kicking with these toffy nose shits. Look at the shite us women have had to endure these past years because of this government, we’re so worn down by it all that we are greatful for support & kind words from Boris, he’s a bullshitter, they all are!

ChristinaXYZ · 06/04/2022 18:13

@LookMoreCloselier

Please don't vote tory on this alone, it's a non issue in comparison to what's going on in the world right now and it's frankly baffling that this would be anyones hill to die on. They will of course say these things as it appeals to their gammon type voters, not a group I'd like to be aligned with.
Spot the troll.

We loose these rights, and we nearly have already, we'll never get them back.

Unsure33 · 06/04/2022 18:16

@WelshyMaud

But I believe that what Boris said today is a rare example of absolute truth coming from him. Those were his own, genuine opinions.Boris knows exactly what a woman is

I agree. I also got the feeling that he just jumped the gun a bit in that interview and said a bit more than he intended. It didn't sound as scripted and 'party line' as many other interviews I've seen.

Yes and he mentioned young people making decisions too early as well ?

That’s fine , we live in a democracy . We all can use our own judgement thank you . And decide on our own who to vote for .

I think you will find a lot of people won’t be swayed by foul mouth ranting .

It has happened on the Tories watch, but not because they changed anything. It happened because Stonewall got ahead of the law and mis-trained everyone. Though of course government departments employed Stonewall, but so did so many other public bodies.
TheNameOfTheRoses · 06/04/2022 18:20

It’s not about choosing another hill to die on.

It’s about choosing what the least bad.

For me Johnson has all the hallmarks of someone who is slowly but surely implementing a dictatorial system, erasing all form of dissents (see Chanel 4 , right to protest, justice system on its knees etc…) whilst keeping the population poor so their concerns are about putting food in the table/surviving rather than ‘rights’.
LD and Labour have their own issues but at least I’m holding the hope that things can be changed with public pressure. Whereas I don’t with BJ.

I also don’t believe women’s right will be anything but protected if our human rights charter is being disbanded.

Basically I’m choosing not to ignore the consequences of supporting someone who has proven how ruthless he is and how little care he has for us, the population (let alone women).

Plus if I’m honest, is he not going to do yet another U turn, like he has done on so many subjects? Can anyone rely on him doing what he said he was going to do?
