Boris Speaks!

Sky News.

He thinks it's unfair for biological men to compete in women's sports.

He says it's important to preserve women's spaces.

Says he has a lot to learn about the issue but we have to be sensible.

OP posts:

It is so good - they now need urgently to deal with annex B. I am single issue voter now and this, Boris's interview here, is what I want to see, and I want to see more of it. Great too that he separated the LGB and the T.

bellinisurge · 06/04/2022 13:46

If that knobhead can say it why can't Starmer? He doesn't give a fuck about women or trans people but he knows an election winner when he sees it. He's laying down the gauntlet to Labour. He's setting some red lines and then saying the rest is up for discussion. It's not difficult but Labour have made it too easy for him. Interesting he talks about Gillick competency- he's done some reading on it in anticipation of journalistic enquiry.
Fuck you, Starmer for making me agree with that dickhead.

arethereanyleftatall · 06/04/2022 13:46

Lia and Emily's selfishness has caused so so much damage to the trans community.

MrsOvertonsWindow · 06/04/2022 13:48

@arethereanyleftatall

Lia and Emily's selfishness has caused so so much damage to the trans community.
Yet done so much to highlight the inherent unfairness to women of men in women's sport.
EightMonthsScared · 06/04/2022 13:53

And this is why I vote Conservative.

Labour will never stand up for us. And I don't care if Boris is only saying this for popularity, we need people like him to say things like this.

I hope the tide is finally turning.

bellinisurge · 06/04/2022 13:55

@EightMonthsScared , sunlight pours in even through shitty dirty windows. I won't vote Tory but I won't vote Labour. And the only way Labour win next time is if they get comprehensive broad spectrum support.
They may not alienate every woman but they will alienate enough to hand this back to the Tories.

BellatrixOnABadDay · 06/04/2022 13:59

I don't think he is only saying it for popularity though. Don't get me wrong, Tory HQ are well aware of the absolute shitshow labour are making around these issues and are going to cynically capitalise on it. But I believe that what Boris said today is a rare example of absolute truth coming from him. Those were his own, genuine opinions.

Boris knows exactly what a woman is.

@arethereanyleftatall

Lia and Emily's selfishness has caused so so much damage to the trans community.
But it’s not just them. They have been totally and wholeheartedly backup by those in charge of their teams. UPenn apparently said they would never back up a woman when a transwoman was involved. So we could and I’m sure will have many more Lia’s and Emily’s as the teams absolutely endorse their participation in women’s sport.

I’d say the damage started long before that with C Burns & Press for Change. And then Stonewall booted things up by choosing to trample all over women’s rights instead of going for separate trans rights. Lia & Emily have just made it all more visible which is very helpful of them.

ginnybag · 06/04/2022 14:05

I'm another who's become a single issue voter. I have a DD - this is the hill I will die on, if needed.

On a positive note, I was very interested, when at a school focus group a few days ago, to hear some of the points so well articulated on here raised by another mum. She isn't (well, wasn't - I pointed her over here afterwards when we were chatting) a mumsnetter. She specifically raised the point that the school - when talking about equality and inclusion - need to make sure that they don't start from the stance that women and girls have true equality already and need to 'be kind' to less fortunate groups.

It was a small group, but that phrase was a proper dog-whistle for about four of us. It was good not to be alone.

WelshyMaud · 06/04/2022 14:05

I agree. I also got the feeling that he just jumped the gun a bit in that interview and said a bit more than he intended. It didn't sound as scripted and 'party line' as many other interviews I've seen.

DaffyDaffy · 06/04/2022 14:07

Seriously, Labour - I’m so angry with you for being such a utterly useless opposition party.

EstelleCostanza · 06/04/2022 14:09

Boris is better at politics than Starmer and always will be. In his arrogance and laziness he makes stupid, unforced errors. If he focusses properly he is more than capable of packing Starmer off snivelling to north London in 2024.

Fireflygal · 06/04/2022 14:11

*Fuck you, Starmer for making me agree with that dickhead

Great slogan!!

I wrote to my Lib Dem MP and her response was even more vocal on Trans Rights. She didn't believe in safe spaces for women at all.

Needmoresleep · 06/04/2022 14:13

The row within the Tories will bring important sunlight to the issue.

I don't think Boris would have come out so openly unless he was sure he could carry both his party and the public. Angela Raynor , who attacked the PM's words, saying: 'He throws his two pence in, causes so much damage and screw the consequences. I remain of the firm view Boris Johnson is a real liability.', could be left looking like a real numpty.

The Scottish Tories position is odd. What is it with politicians north of the border?

Cazalet · 06/04/2022 14:20

Hurrah, finally some common sense. So pleased.

My local MP (a woman) doesn’t believe in safe spaces for women etc etc, I am writing to her today, she will lose my vote. DH is also writing separately.

wejammin · 06/04/2022 14:24

Also politically homeless.
I can't vote for any party who refuses to understand or even acknowledge the importance of biology, but wider Tory policy does so much damage to women that they are in no way the champion of women.
Even though they know what one is.

Datun · 06/04/2022 14:26

It'll be interesting to watch TRAs kickoff now.

Because that and not what Boris just said, will be the nail in their coffin.

Which is why this is really good news.

He can't really back track. Because what happens next will sway the entire country.

PerkyBlinder · 06/04/2022 14:27

@arethereanyleftatall

Lia and Emily's selfishness has caused so so much damage to the trans community.
And so much needed clarity and light for the general public who haven’t really given the issue a huge amount of thought other than thinking a few crazy feminists are most likely being hysterical as who on earth would believe that those in authority would be genuinely confused about male and female sex classes.

Now they can see it clearly in all their male glory being hugely entitled and trampling over fair sex based boundaries.

SirSamVimesCityWatch · 06/04/2022 14:29
Just been browsing the comments. About 99% in support, and huge numbers of people saying things along the lines of "first time I've agreed with Boris".

Hate them all you like, but the Tory party know how to win elections. It's what they do, historically. Seems like they've picked this up as a vote winner.

Needmoresleep · 06/04/2022 14:32

Boris' references to Gillick competence, sport etc suggested he has mastered the brief, understands what it is all about and where the problems are.

It is curious how invested some prominent LGBs are to anchoring themselves to the T. Sex is different to gender. We accept that the law does not permit people to have (gay or straight) sex with under 16s. Why is it so different with gender.

LookMoreCloselier · 06/04/2022 14:35

Please don't vote tory on this alone, it's a non issue in comparison to what's going on in the world right now and it's frankly baffling that this would be anyones hill to die on. They will of course say these things as it appeals to their gammon type voters, not a group I'd like to be aligned with.

Datun · 06/04/2022 14:37

What? Women upholding their rights are wanting privacy and dignity, wanting to retain their sport, not wanting their children medicated for life, and wanting to be recognised in law and in politics are not 'gammon'.
