Sky News.

He thinks it's unfair for biological men to compete in women's sports.

He says it's important to preserve women's spaces.

Says he has a lot to learn about the issue but we have to be sensible.

He doesn't give a fuck about women's rights. So be warned don't think you are doing women any favours by keep the Tories in.

So, vote for the party which states quite clearly that they won't stand up for women's sex-based rights, rather than the party who is at least listening to what women want and says they will uphold women's rights. Gotcha.

doublemonkey · 06/04/2022 17:10

And just a timely reminder for the people in this thread who think Labour cares. They fucking don't.

Tony Blair invented evidence that took us into a war in Iraq which killed over a million people.

Actually freckles I think he does care, not because his heart swells with compassion for women but because he knows this is a major issue for 51% of the population! Labour seems to lack any awareness of the grass roots anger about this - and moreover Johnson has now placed himself directly in the line of fierce fire to make a clear point he intends to back us.

Starmer is still scratching his balls trying to work out what a woman is, so forgive me, but out of the two I am backing the party that can at least recognise I am a woman!

Swayingpalmtrees · 06/04/2022 17:13

tim seems very sad that we won't vote for erasure. Very sad indeed.

Georgeskitchen · 06/04/2022 17:14

Well done BoJo for speaking out. There will plenty of wobblers being thrown tonight

Charley50 · 06/04/2022 17:15

I think Johnson would have rather not said anything, preferring to watch from the sidelines while Labour destroyed itself. But the overreach of Stonewall, and the perfect storm of issues, meant he had to comment.

He's actually done Labour a favour, as they will have to face this issue head-on, and stop ignoring the rights of the majority of the fucking population. We might even be able to go back to voting Labour one day soon.

OvaHere · 06/04/2022 17:15

@Sandra2010

Think it's really sad that so many people are going to vote for the future of this country based on this one news story. Just words out of a liar's mouth.
It's not 'just this one news story' there's been at least 6-7 years build up to this moment. Longer if you count the smaller number of feminists paying attention for a decade or more.
Charley50 · 06/04/2022 17:16

Maybe Lia and Thomas are secretly on our side. They couldn't have done a better job 😃

Signalbox · 06/04/2022 17:18
The Tories may well know what a woman is...they still couldn't give a fat rats crack about keeping us safe though.

news.sky.com/story/ministers-criticised-after-mps-vote-against-making-misogyny-a-hate-crime-as-lords-amendment-defeated-12554448
It's not quite as simplistic as that though is it? Many feminists were critical of making misogyny a hate crime.

"The simplistic idea of “misogyny as a hate crime” has a base appeal. A little like the doomed ban on conversion therapy, it sounds good in theory but in practice could make it harder to solve the problem it claims to address. Virtue-signalling on social media is annoying, but when it risks being written into law, it’s dangerous. Ultimately, tinkering with hate crime legislation will do nothing to stop men’s violence, and politicians who refuse to define “women” shouldn’t be trusted to stand-up for them."

Keir Starmer won't stand up for one of his own - Rosie Duffield.

Why on earth would I believe he would stand up for any other woman?

He won't say what a woman is. I know he's lying when he says ridiculous things about cervixes and male bodied people changing sex to be women. He knows we know he's lying, but he doesn't care.

Ideology above Rosie, above women and children, and above truth. I will never vote for him.

There's no way back for him. Even if he does a complete volte-face on this how can he be trusted? He would have condemned us to Self-ID and Stonewall law made true if not stopped. Totally unforgivable.

bellinisurge · 06/04/2022 17:19

"Think it's really sad that so many people are going to vote for the future of this country based on this one news story. Just words out of a liar's mouth."

There's the other news stories about it being ok to put rapists in women's prisons says Lisa Nandy. Or that women are Rights Hoarding Dinosaurs says David Lammy. Or it's not right to say only a woman has a cervix says Keir Starmer. Those weren't today. Or perhaps you didn't notice.

Iknowitisheresomewhere · 06/04/2022 17:19

I have sent my (Conservative) MP an email asking her to thank the Prime Minister for this. We really need to show Conservatives that this matters.

I fully agree with those who say that the Prime Minister has MANY flaws/faults/skeletons/etc etc and I wish we had a more admirable person in number 10, HOWEVER, he is good at what he does (politics) and he will sense that there is political capital to be made out of being clear and straight talking on this.

We want debate. And we want the debate to be clear about who is being disadvantaged. Eg not 'should trans children get the treatment they want' but 'is it right to give children drugs that cause permanent damage to healthy bodies when that body doesn't need it'. Not 'should this transwoman be allowed to race' but 'should women's sport include males'.

I agree. He's side stepped himself for as long has he could but clearly it's now all come to a head.

It's on Starmer now to prove Labour can take a sensible direction in line with majority public sentiment. I have my doubts.

bellinisurge · 06/04/2022 17:21

Boris Johnson is a cock lodger at the heart of our democracy. I neither trust nor believe him. But he's still doing a better job on this than Starmer.

I am sorry charley but that simply isn't going to happen. Labour are neck deep in this crap and whatever hold the activists have over Labour it will not be disappearing anytime soon. We will one day discover what is motivating Labour women MPs to support such harmful agendas but not any time soon. Labour are going to condemn the Conservatives for their stand, and take the route of more entrenchment is my guess. Doubling down on their position like the last drunk on the dancefloor.
You will have a long wait for their position to change and it won't be in time for this election for sure, it will involve a wholesale change at the top and an overhaul of their entire identity.

A good idea. I have emailed my Tory MP in the past on this issue and received either no response or generic platitudes about it being a complex issue Hmm but with Johnson nailing his colours to the mast he may be willing to become a little braver. He's a party-line yes man to the core, my MP, so hopefully he'll follow on this too.
Iknowitisheresomewhere · 06/04/2022 17:23

All those people saying 'but surely x is more important'. You are entitled to think that. I don't. And I think that anyone who thinks this is even a little bit important shouldn't waste their energy trying to get me to change my mind - instead we should all try to get the other political parties to change their mind. If I had more than one party who showed basic common sense and courtesy on this issue, then I would be able to take other things into account. But at the moment I don't.

doublemonkey · 06/04/2022 17:24

😂😂

That's so Mumsnet.

Keir Starmer? Get your ducks in a row.

moose62 · 06/04/2022 17:26

i don't care if he means it or not...he had the balls to say it...at last, someone in a position of power did!

tabbycatstripy · 06/04/2022 17:26

‘It's on Starmer now to prove Labour can take a sensible direction in line with majority public sentiment. I have my doubts.’

He isn’t going to change course. He believes this stuff.

Heh.

I think they are only on the side of themselves, nobody else. The same applies to that New Zealand weight lifter. The private films they are watching is about them winning accolades while bit actors stand around them also eagerly clapping their hands.

Fairislefandango · 06/04/2022 17:27

^This. It's strange how many people seem to be of the opinion that taking notice of what voters want is a bad thing. Labour certainly seem to agree with them though.

Boomboom22 · 06/04/2022 17:30

I have also emailed my mp Damien Green thanking him for his PM radio 4 interview and Boris for today. I mentioned schools and girls next.
He immediately replied thank you.

corlan · 06/04/2022 17:30

Most of the GC women I know and on here are/were hardcore Labour voters, party members and campaigners.

Same.

I was a Labour party member until GC women were told that our views were not welcome in the party. If you go and talk to women at Woman's Place meetings, most are left wing.
