Boris Speaks!

AndAsIfByMagic · 06/04/2022 12:23

Sky News.

He thinks it's unfair for biological men to compete in women's sports.

He says it's important to preserve women's spaces.

Says he has a lot to learn about the issue but we have to be sensible.

@LookMoreCloselier

Yeah you each have one vote and voting conservative based on this particular issue is imo repugnant. Pointless discussing in this echo chamber, bye 👋
😂 Cheerio 👋
C152 · 06/04/2022 15:13

Didn't think I'd ever agree with anything Boris had to say but these are strange times!

CatherinaJTV · 06/04/2022 15:15

@Needmoresleep

Catherina, you are misquoting. He is saying that he does not think it reasonable to be deemed Gillick competent.

These are life changing decisions.

Do you personally think it is OK for a confused and unhappy and perhaps immature 14 year old girl to be put on a course of life altering, non reversible drugs?

If so you are at odds with the majority of the population.

I am just thinking this to the end. And there are plenty of folk (who are also trans phobic, coincidentally, of course) happy to attest that an abortion will have life changing consequences (for the pregnant person) and so will contraception.
OvaHere · 06/04/2022 15:16

I don't disagree re womens spaces etc but on this board are absolutely rabid on this, you've lost all sense of proportion.

So you don't disagree with us but you think the women who have done all the legwork and grind pushing back on this (remembering that much of he grassroots campaigns began here on MN) are 'rabid' and have 'lost all sense of proportion"

Yeah okay then. Hmm

Torunette · 06/04/2022 15:17

They will of course say these things as it appeals to their gammon type voters, not a group I'd like to be aligned with.

Gammon, huh?

I think you've revealed yourself there. Do you use categorise individuals under a dismissive nickname for every perspective in society you dislike?

PenguindreamsofDraco · 06/04/2022 15:20

And there are plenty of folk (who are also trans phobic, coincidentally, of course) happy to attest that an abortion will have life changing consequences (for the pregnant person) and so will contraception.

The word you're looking for there is women. Pregnant women.

OvaHere · 06/04/2022 15:21

All this scare mongering about abortion. It's only been a week since the amendment to make early abortion care at home permanent passed into law. An amendment proposed by a Conservative peer.

Does that look like a country going backwards on abortion?

CatherinaJTV · 06/04/2022 15:23

@PenguindreamsofDraco

actually, I wasn't looking for the word "woman", since I included younger pregnant people as well, i.e. under 18s (since we are talking Gillick)
Needmoresleep · 06/04/2022 15:23

Catherina. No need to add other issues.

What is it about Boris' statement on trans issues that you disagree with. Surely like other mums here you care strongly about the medication of children and about girls abilty to access sport in a way that is fair and that allows them to compete equally.

Or are you one of the outlier 3% who don't. If so why?

Signalbox · 06/04/2022 15:25

i.e. under 18s (since we are talking Gillick)

Gillick is for under 16.

CatherinaJTV · 06/04/2022 15:26

the issue at hand: conversion therapy on trans individuals, has little to do with access to sports.

CatherinaJTV · 06/04/2022 15:26

@Signalbox

i.e. under 18s (since we are talking Gillick)

Gillick is for under 16.

well yes, hence, NOT women
MarshaBradyo · 06/04/2022 15:27

@Datun

Women!! Don't you know your safety and dignity isn't important? You are only allowed to care about the systematic unravelling of your rights after the rest of the world is enjoying peace, harmony, prosperity and a hard boiled egg.

... that you made.

Grin
MyNameIsAngelicaSchuyler · 06/04/2022 15:27

Shit. Never voted Tory in my life but if Labour don’t respond I might well do so.

Signalbox · 06/04/2022 15:29

well yes, hence, NOT women

So girls then?

Theeyeballsinthefuckingsky · 06/04/2022 15:30

Well quelle surprise that we have visitors turning up to tell us how awful we are

Yes dreadful old us for wanting to preserve womens sports for Women, keep men out of Women’s refuges & rape support groups and keep children off life altering medication until they can make an informed choice

CatherinaJTV · 06/04/2022 15:31

@Signalbox

well yes, hence, NOT women

So girls then?

most of them, yes
MarshaBradyo · 06/04/2022 15:32

I remember on an earlier thread someone turning up to scoff about no one cared etc

Looks like the issue is gaining ground markedly

No less to many on here. Good job

Needmoresleep · 06/04/2022 15:37

Tge Mail article is up to 1.2k comments overwhelmingly favourable.

Has Stamer just gifted Boris an open goal right before local government elections.

HellonHeels · 06/04/2022 15:37

Looks like I'm voting Tory for the first time. Like many others I'm now a single-issue voter.

If the Labour party manages to clean up the utter shitshow it's become, I may return in future. But I fear they've lost my vote forever. And the libdems and the greens and the WEP.

JoodyBlue · 06/04/2022 15:38

What has he said: protect children from making irreversible decisions, or least ensure parental support; protect women's sport; protect women's spaces. The thing he missed was language, but then that was implied because he said "women". Who could possibly argue against that. I will be very interested to see any other party try.

The cross party campaign to "respect my sex" starts to bear fruit.

CatherinaJTV · 06/04/2022 15:40

What has he said: protect children from making irreversible decisions

Well yes...

SerendipityJane · 06/04/2022 15:42

The fact that anybody believes this claptrap on the same day manifesto breaking tax and Ni rises are being felt across the country beggars belief.

How stupid are some people ?

SelfPortraitWithPterodactyl · 06/04/2022 15:43

Fuck you, Starmer for making me agree with that dickhead.

Can we get postcards made, please?

Also please just stop with the vote-shaming. "Rabid"? "Lost all sense of proportion"? You know what, I am not going to vote for anyone who not only does not give a rat's arse about me or my daughter but says that acknowledging the root of our oppression is hateful. And given that this is about 51% of the population, the 51% that is poorer and more vulnerable and systematically undervalued and also that takes on the greater share of nurturing the next generation, if Keir fucking Starmer or anyone else dares to think we should suck it up, hold our noses and vote for the "real" issues they can fuck off until they cannot fuck off any more. Labour have lost my vote and it is THEIR OWN FUCKING FAULT.

PurgatoryOfPotholes · 06/04/2022 15:44

Starmer has been dancing up and down beside that open goal for months. So have the Lib-Dems.

I was beginning to wonder if Johnson should have gone to Specsavers/a drive to test his eyesight, on account of how he kept failing to notice it.
