What a bizarre universe we seem to be living in. It doesn't seem too many years ago that consenting adults, male or female, may choose a partner of either sex, and it was nobody else's business. Why all of a sudden are people being told who they may have a relationship with?

That does cut to the heart of the entire thing - the only time you should be treating someone "as a woman" is in a situation sex is important (like relationships, or sports, or sex equality monitoring). If it isn't, then you should be treating them as a person, not as a woman or a man - you should not be sex discriminating.

So there is no circumstance in which it makes sense to treat a man "as a woman". There is no circumstance in which "gender" discrimination makes sense. (That I can think of, anyway).

He's never been angry about being called a misogynist, as it just doesn't compute. Women who think he is aren't worthy of his notice, and we are of course the only oppressed class of people who get to have members of the oppressor class who purport to care about social justice tell us what our oppression is and what it is not, without any shame on their part.

I honestly think women who can't see the blatant misogyny of these men, even though they may agree with their politics and support trans rights, need some kind of an intervention.

He's basically an opinion journalist with no real expertise or experience in anything very concrete. He's not able to give serious political or military or economic analysis. He's just a liberal gay man who writes about liberal gay viewpoints. He's not especially unusual or surprising in what he says. But those kinds of opinions are a dime a dozen.

His youth was kind of his shtick I suppose, he represented Young Labour, but like a lot of precocious young writers he didn't seem to mature past that.
