A male Tory MP has released a statement on Twitter that they are transgender, and also that a couple of years ago they were raped.
It's a brave statement.

He will be fluid, can wake up a bit womany, midday golf and all man, later is anyone's guess because it's all choice.

felulageller · 30/03/2022 12:47

When a woman says she's been raped the line is 'alleged rape'. Not seen this used here.

Also no mention of criticism for not reporting the matter to the police.

Lovelyricepudding · 30/03/2022 12:47

I disagree with those who say you cannot link this with his pimping and dishonest dealings. It is the same person. The same person who already sees women as a commodity to be exploited by men. The same individual part of an ideology that uses women for validation, that forces us to lie, that seeks to hide original identities.

If there were no link then where are the TRA's on this thread telling us he is not representative of them, that they condemn his behaviour?

Alexandra2001 · 30/03/2022 12:47

@EndaDay

Spoiling a ballot paper is a complete an utter waste of time, look at Byelections with 30% turnouts? the winner doesn't care, they'll bang on that they got X% of the vote!!

Vote for anyone, anyone at all, but not voting or destroying a ballot is why we get shite policies.

With this Tory MP telling us all he is trans plus him encouraging women to prostitute themselves, it really does mean that all the parties are the same on this issue.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 30/03/2022 12:51

Totally agree re spoiling ballot paper. Total waste of a vote.

Did the pimping business also pimp men out to women? Deplorable either way, of course, that an elected MP would be party to such trash.

Enough4me · 30/03/2022 12:53

The leaders of the other parties put biology after ideology.

It will be interesting to see what happens in this case, perhaps he'll swap to Labour now on this issue.

transdimensional · 30/03/2022 12:55

@FunnyTalks

Trans ideology belongs on the right just as much as it does on the left. Strip away the oppression Olympics aspect and it is grounded in old fashioned sexist stereotypes, preaching individual identity, individual choice and consumerism over an understanding of class analysis.

Wouldn't it be funny if Labour realised the force of ordinary public opinion and found a way of dumping it at the Conservative's feet? Not beyond the realms of possibility. After all the GRA was under a Conservative government and the Equality act 2010 is Labour's.

GRA is Labour, 2004.
AntsInPenzance · 30/03/2022 12:55

@Grumpyoldpersonwithcats

Nothing to see here A white middle aged Tory MP who has been the director of a company encouraging prostitution (and lied about his involvement) now has a sob story and is being 'very brave'. I don't have much sympathy for pimps I'm afraid. I have much more sympathy for the youngsters he traded to the wealthy for sex, and the long term damage that may have caused them.
Being raped is a sob story?
StandUpStraight · 30/03/2022 12:56

It’s in the times today, and the comments are being heavily moderated. Only stunning and brave allowed.

Turningpurple · 30/03/2022 12:58

I have ptsd, does this mean I can crash my car and walk off and it's OK?

Datun · 30/03/2022 12:59

Just checking I've got this right.

The blackmail was about photos of him 'being trans'? He's not going to 'be trans' permanently? Except he is, but not in the way the photos were?

So he's trans, but there is no modification whatsoever, including clothing, but does that mean he gets to use all the women's facilities?

And he's being congratulated for this?

AntsInPenzance · 30/03/2022 12:59

@WouldBeGood

A man. Who presents as a man and uses male pronouns, but is really a woman??
To be fair, he hasn't actually said he is a woman.

No. The CPS may decide it isn't in the public interest to prosecute you though.

SmallThingsEverywhere · 30/03/2022 13:04

@springtimeishereagain

Hmm, another man coming out as trans and then we find out he's been involved with sleaze. Sticking to the script so far.
Exactly. Why include the car crash in his statement? Using Trans to absolve him of any culpability? This man has a pretty dodgy history and the car crash is only one element.
SpiderVersed · 30/03/2022 13:04

He’s awful but that doesn’t mean we can’t empathise about the alleged rape.

Pimping young men and women, exploitative business practices, 800+ complaints about his businesses, running away from crashing his car in an unfit state, standing on a platform for more local jobs while outsourcing his business to Thailand at a pittance, lying to the electorate, being kicked of a council for never turning up…

Wallis has a history of being - at the very least - duplicitous to the public. If what he claims actually did happen, I hope he accesses counselling for his trauma. But he is unfit to be an MP.

tabbycatstripy · 30/03/2022 13:04

‘To be fair, he hasn't actually said he is a woman.’

In UK law, ‘transitioning’ or ‘gender reassignment’ isn’t an existential state. ‘Transition’ is a verb and ‘reassignment’ is a process. You don’t just live as ‘transgender’ in law.

So technically, he hasn’t done anything to transition. He’s a male with dysphoria, and that should be respected.

His other activities (which I don’t respect) can still be commented on.

If he's not considering whether to think himself to be a woman, what will he select to be when he's made up his mind that he will be trans?

Is he going for catgender or another new gender?

In the selection phase, does something actually happen or change?

I get that. I am not saying he should be prosecuted. I dont know enough.

But it all seems to be 'reasons I walled away from a car crash'

But I don't think a woman, who was also, in the public eye would be called stunning and brave.

I also dont think they would have got such amazing support from the police over blackmail either.

@Lovelyricepudding

The rape is awful but they lied to the electorate opening themselves up to blackmail - this is a representative of parliament who makes legislation. And the way they talk about the car crash sounds like they crashed it into another car - a hit and run but they had PTSD so not responsible for their actions even though they are fine to be voting in parliament?

Slothtoes · 30/03/2022 13:11

I’m very sorry to read that they were raped and I hope that they have very good real life support. Putting that into the public domain is extremely brave.

I’m confused about what their coming out statement is actually saying though. I haven’t got time to read 10 pages on here and I noticed that media reports are still using the male ‘he’ pronouns and being very vague. The MP themselves says they are ‘still using’ those male pronouns. Does this imply that is temporary?

Is this MP coming out as a transman, a transwoman or non binary? Or a transvestite? Or a (happy to be acknowledged as male) person, living in their unchanged male sexed body, with diagnosed gender dysphoria?

I’m confused but I don’t want to apologise for my confusion because media reporting of sex and gender is so politicised now, it’s become very hard to decode what I am reading.
