Outside of Twitter has this actually had much impact? The mass media are covering it, but it is a minor story, almost a light relief story. Yet we invest too much into this idea that Russian misinformation is having a serious effect. The media only go on about Russian misinformation when a political vote doesn't go their way.
IRL I don't know anyone who uses Twitter, but because the media uses it they think everyone uses it. Children use social media, but they're too young to vote.
We have seen too many discussions from people who spend all their time online saying that they don't understand how the person in the street is oblivious to the whole trans rights debate. Is it because IRL social media has much less of an impact than what people suspect?
There are debates over who receive Russian money, but for some reason the Independent and Evening Standard are exempt. No doubt if the Independent started running feminist articles we'd see all the Russian influence arguments start.
There is Russian misinformation, but I believe its role is massively overplayed, yet at the same no ever talks about China.
