Changing rooms update

Little update - I came on here 2 years ago because my child’s school had told us there was a child identifying as a girl who wanted to use girls communal changing rooms for swimming. It’s taken two whole years (and the child is now a boy again after getting a haircut), but the school has finally published a statement making clear that changing rooms will be separated “on an anatomical basis” and anyone uncomfortable with this could contact the school to make a different arrangement. I was on my own, challenging the school board throughout this. Although others agreed privately no other parent was willing to get involved. So you alone can make a difference.

Well done!
One person can make a difference.

RufustheFloralmissingreindeer · 19/03/2022 23:19

Very well done 👏🏻

GrinitchSpinach · 19/03/2022 23:23

You Star!

What a testament to your persistence. Thank you for standing up for your child and all the children at that school—and thanks for sharing your experience! It really does help to encourage others.

CrossStichQueen · 19/03/2022 23:26

Well done!!

Seriously well done....but why the holy fuck are we (you) having to fight for our daughters to have safety, privacy and dignity at school in 2022??

AgathaMystery · 19/03/2022 23:28

Well done. Thank you so so much.

Dinoteeth · 19/03/2022 23:28

I remember your original post.

You are legendary.

Rightsraptor · 19/03/2022 23:38

An amazing result for you Fairy! And shame on those cowardly parents who hid behind you.

Whatwouldscullydo · 19/03/2022 23:39

👏👏👏

HollowTalk · 19/03/2022 23:40

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

DifficultBloodyWoman · 19/03/2022 23:40

Thank you for standing up for women and girls. It may have been ‘just’ your school but ‘just’ your school will have thousands of children over the years and you have personally ensured their safety both at school and as they grow up understanding the power of good boundaries.

Thank you.

Stealhsquirrelnutkin · 19/03/2022 23:45

Congratulations, your courage and determination paid off in the end. Girls deserve the privacy and dignity of single sex spaces and we older women need to be brave enough to stand up for them. It's good to know that your perseverance won!

Rainbowshit · 19/03/2022 23:45

Thank you!

feministqueen · 19/03/2022 23:50

Thank you for this!! A lone voice can feel like a tiny squeak in a vast room. But that is an exceptionally important squeak and one that should never ever been underestimated or overlooked.

Good for you @FairytaleofBykerGrove ! Thank you for continuing to show our daughters that they should never have to accept males in our single sex space

VenezuelaChant · 19/03/2022 23:52

A heroine for a whole school. Well done.

Pluvia · 19/03/2022 23:54

Well done. You're absolutely right about one person being able to make a difference. I know someone who has challenged her employer about the decision to make all the toilets mixed-sex at her place of work and they stepped back from it. She had a message via a back channel that those implementing the policy weren't keen themselves, but had thought it was something they had better be seen to be doing. When my pal piped up to complain they decided on the strength of her alone that the staff wouldn't be happy with it and shelved the plan. Sometimes people just need a gentle push. Hooray for you, OP.

Pudmyboy · 19/03/2022 23:54

Congratulations and we'll done, you are an inspiration!Star

Fullyhuman · 19/03/2022 23:56

Brava!

Jackiebrambles · 20/03/2022 00:05

You are brilliant! Well done, great result.

PastMyBestBeforeDate · 20/03/2022 00:11

Wow! Well done. Excellent result.

Kendodd · 20/03/2022 00:27

Did the child in question actually use the girls changing rooms?
I wonder if your objections halted the unquestioning affirmation of this child which in turn might have contributed to him moving away from being trans?

Datun · 20/03/2022 00:44

Well done, fairy. And thanks for the update.

One person can absolutely make a difference. Most people disagree with the ideology, profoundly, but they're too scared to say so. So one person is often just the tipping point that's needed.

You are that one, very brave, person. Thank you.

Redshoeblueshoe · 20/03/2022 00:56

Well done. Boys should not be in girls changing rooms

Apollo441 · 20/03/2022 01:23

Thank you for your courage and persistence @FairytaleofBykerGrove. As others have said you have ensured sense prevails for future children at the school and shown a lone voice can stop the rot.
