New business on the block selling organic tampons via post and so on, called Yoppie. This is their instagram.

Text of instagram post:

'Most bleeders know how they are impacted by their period, but unfortunately aren't in touch with their feelings & symptoms in the other phases of their cycle. We are here to change that.'

I just can't stop laughing at this one. Grin

Except that one poster who is going along preaching at everyone that it’s more inclusive to pander to the tiny minority who prefer to be called bleeders than the huge majority who prefer to retain their fucking dignity!

Does anyone prefer to be called bleeders? I can't imagine transmen actually liking this term either. The misogynistic undertones are obvious.

MarshaBradyo · 15/03/2022 18:54

How base is that

Irritates me hugely to be reduced like that

Onionpatch · 15/03/2022 18:57

@ScreamingMeMe - that was my thought.
There are women who have periods who view themselves as non binary or male, whether I like it or not and this brand clearly wants to appeal to them. But i would hope they still recognised themselves as humans not a function, and would if a function was mentioned - name the right one.

Clarabe1 · 15/03/2022 19:02

Excuse my ignorance but what is a bleeder? I am assuming it’s a woman who is menstruating? Why are we being called bleeders? If this is about men becoming women they don’t have a womb so why don’t they just say menstruating women? Am I being thick?? Don’t pile on me- I am genuinely confused!

I’m going to look back in a couple of days and see if the post is still up, can see any supportive comments.

EggBanjo · 15/03/2022 19:02

If no one bought the product then she wouldn't have a company.

Would love to be a fly on the wall at tomorrows meeting about marketing Wink

So am I
itsnotdeep · 15/03/2022 19:04

I saw it and thought it awful. the website also refers to people who menstruate and tampon users. I hope they get no custom at all.

Luredbyapomegranate · 15/03/2022 19:05

Fuck me. The misogyny is flowing out of that.

I just love being de-humanised.

What fuckers

JoyousAsOtters · 15/03/2022 19:05

And yet many of these same people refuse to accept that the consumers of porn hub etc are invariably wankers?

DH has a bleeding disorder. I will inform him that there is a new product available to meet all his bleeding needs.

lemmein · 15/03/2022 19:18

It's a shame that they've just offended their whole customer base and those whose feelings they are pandering to don't need them 🙄

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 15/03/2022 19:27

Bleeders?? I can remember that word equalling a term of abuse, as in e.g. ‘Tell that little bleeder to shut the fuck up!’

Mummyoflittledragon · 15/03/2022 19:27
Women, suffering the ways of men, but they don't bleed - only women do.
Ah thanks for that. A trip down memory Lane. Such a beautiful ballad.

Bleeder!!?? The word makes me think of someone who’s had a horrendous injury and is bleeding out. Not very sensitive with regards to the current Ukraine situation.

Blessed be the bleeders.

MarshaBradyo · 15/03/2022 19:32

It is dehumanising

I feel so annoyed just reading it it’s hard to articulate

CrossOldWoman · 15/03/2022 19:37

Bleeders? Marketing written by clots more like...

Seema1234 · 15/03/2022 19:38

It's just disgusting and dehumanising. We don't see products aimed at men described in such derogatory terms so why do they think we want this.

If they're trying to appeal to non binary people then why not say Women and people who menstruate. Bleeders is unnecessary and crude.

Lesperance · 15/03/2022 19:56

Well, there we go. Isn't it nice when companies help us make easy choices with what not to buy?

On another note, interesting that they are marketing tampons as some kind of sticking plaster.

doublemonkey · 15/03/2022 19:57

Judging by one of her Linkedin articles she is fully aware of the difference between men and women in business is seems. I hope she can take the feedback and adjust because there is a huge need for better sanpro products.

Fundraising as a female founder

According to Just Entrepreneurs, “in 2011, female-founded companies received just 1.2% of all European VC investment. By 2020, this total had grown to 2.2% before falling to 0.7% in 2021.” There’s no doubt the pandemic has negatively impacted funding for female entrepreneurs and FemTech, but this is already rising to come back stronger.

The majority of decision-makers in FemTech are men, and currently, only 14% of VC investment goes to women-led startups. However, there has been a significant increase in funds (often championed by women) allocated to fund women's health enterprises.

As a female founder, I refuse to be viewed as a charity investment. No one should be investing in female founders in order to fill a quota. There is a real opportunity in backing the frontrunners who are tackling the massively underserved space of female-specific problems, from healthcare to hormones and beyond - and yes, many founders in this space will be women because we face these issues every day.^
