New business on the block selling organic tampons via post and so on, called Yoppie. This is their instagram.

Text of instagram post:

'Most bleeders know how they are impacted by their period, but unfortunately aren't in touch with their feelings & symptoms in the other phases of their cycle. We are here to change that.'

I just can't stop laughing at this one. Grin

Oh dear.

People who have periods, or, women and other people who menstruate, or, everyone who experiences a monthly cycle, any of those would be inclusive rather than insulting.
I’m in a group online who is very inclusive and a few days ago someone wanted to ask a question about washable sanitary towels. So they targeted their question at ‘members who have periods’. Fine.
I have no problem at all that not everyone who has periods identifies as a woman.
I also understand that not everyone who identifies as a woman has periods. I’m a woman and I’ve not had a period in years.

But, no one refers to themselves as a bleeder.

everyone who experiences a monthly cycle.

See I like that, its very respectful and it took you five seconds to think of it, wtf is going on in their heads that they thought bleeders was fine, subconscious misogyny or just plan trolling.

DameHelena · 16/03/2022 11:49

everyone who experiences a monthly cycle.
No, fuck that. We'e talking about periods (I believe there is some evidence that men have hormonal cycles too, although they're obviously different from menstruation).

It's really simple.
It's WOMEN AND GIRLS.
Oh, and if you're a woman or girl who doesn't have periods, you can easily infer that this ad isn't talking to you. And you probably won't be offended by it.

MarshaBradyo · 16/03/2022 11:53

everyone who experiences a monthly cycle.

Nooo just say it. Women and girls.

Women and girls who menstruate if you must

Use plain English.

puffyisgood · 16/03/2022 11:55

they seem like quite a small company, a slip on their part I daresay.

plenty of their other posts, if a little odd, use the w word in a clearly biological sense, e.g.

But I don't understand what that soundbite actually means. If women already understand how they are 'impacted' by their period - eg, PMT before, cramps and weird bowel stuff during, spots around ovulation - then they understand it. So what's with the not being 'in touch with their feelings & symptoms in the other phases of their cycle.' Does she think she's just discovered PMT?

Will tell DH as he goes for a bike ride once a month ergo he "experiences a monthly cycle" Grin

One of my first jobs introduced me to the plain English campaign to make all communication accessible, you realise very quickly how debilitating it can be for some people if you mince your words.

He might well at least sometimes have cramps or even bleed as a result.

She’s doubled down - see latest Instagram post.

Odd way to run your company, ignore your actual customer base.

It’s word salad!
Rabbitpoop · 16/03/2022 13:38

Exactly what I was going to say. Most of what she says makes no sense. We're going to "reimagine" the menstrual cycle. wtf?

Dinosaurhearmeroar · 16/03/2022 14:07

ah so that's what i am - not woman, not female; a bleeder. Thanks!

Chersfrozenface · 16/03/2022 14:10

Well, you reimagine away, mate. Those women and girls who have to, will deal with their periods using someone else's products

VelvetChairGirl · 16/03/2022 14:24

I recently referred to women as ‘bleeders’, but also in the same post used ‘women’. I used the word ‘bleeders’ for our new campaign ‘Ride your cycle’ as I feel it best describes the point we are trying to make; that ‘menstrual health’ is so much more than the days you bleed.

Yes I think my friend is so much more then her weight, thats why I call her fatty mcfatface.

We recognise the menstrual cycle is a biological function. We should be proud of this cycle, of bleeding from our uterus, it’s what makes us different. So we want to have this conversation, to bust the social stigma of talking about it publicly.

bleeding from the uterus is normally caused by polyps or fibroids and needs looking at by a doctor.

We strongly believe all women, girls and people with a menstrual cycle should feel welcome at Yoppie. We also understand there are many women who don’t have periods and some people who menstruate who are not women. We’re proud to host a safe space for anyone wishing to take charge of their menstrual health.

theres one word she could have used to cover all those groups I think it starts with an F, and girls dont menstruate until a certain age, she knows that and women who dont have periods will not be buying period products.

the rest of it is just the sounds of a shovel digging.

MumThatsNotFair · 16/03/2022 14:26

Website Statement ends with: Join the conversation.

Comments turned off.

VelvetChairGirl · 16/03/2022 14:31

She'd better delete this if she wants to go down this path.

That statement Hmm

We also understand there are many women who don’t have periods and some people who menstruate who are not women.

By the second half of that statement she can only mean girls, surely? innocent face

The comments (with the odd exception) are having none of it. I've added mine.
