Velovixen women’s cycling group has drunk the koolaid

So it advertises itself as a women’s cycling group, it’s just a Facebook group. But nice to have a female space where you can talk about labia related saddle issues, etc.

It’s the sort of group where personal posts aren’t encouraged, got to be cycling related. People, don’t do introduction posts.

A new user has done a lengthy navel gazing “hi I’m new to the group post”. Which nobody does. Complete with photo where they totally look like a bloke. And of course in their paragraphs and paragraphs of waffle they say they’re a trans woman.

Some people have started other posts saying they don’t feel comfortable, etc. Such people are getting called terfs, getting banned. Posts from admin saying we are inclusive to ALL women, telling us to be kind. And then switching comments off quickly. I hate being told to be kind. What they actually mean is “shut up little woman and do as you’re told, do what men want you to do “. I haven’t seen anyone actually be unkind to this individual but accept maybe someone has been and it was deleted. Just so pissed off, nowhere is safe.

I hope someone has taken the opportunity to post a link to the Fair Play for Women website - something anodyne about randomly finding an interesting website about women in sport.

I know that the phrase drunk the kool aid has become a thing but it is a pretty offensive reference to a mass killing of nearly 1000 people including over 300 children, and survivors/relatives have asked for it not to be used.

I’m sure kool aid don’t like it much either (especially as it wasn’t actually kool aid) but maybe there is no such thing as bad publicity.

I’m not a cyclist but surely tight fitting cycling items designed for a woman won’t fit a transwoman?

Gosh,, I’m sorry. Had no idea at all. I’ll certainly stop using it. Thought it was just generally about joining the cool/in crowd or something. Sorry.

And yes if they buy women’s specific cycling tights the pad won’t come up high enough in front for what they need. If they can squeeze into an xl women’s top guess they can wear a women’s top, 🤷‍♀️ But the cut will be wrong.

Shock I had no idea!

It’s a reference to the Jonestown massacre, it’s definitely become a phrase though, I can see how it’s context might not be obvious.

Re the clothing it does seem like an odd area to want to muscle into knowing the fit is unlikely to work. I feel your frustration with the rules applying to some and not others.

Yes, I’ve googled it now. I’ve heard of the massacre before but didn’t know how he had done it. Terrible.

Thanks for pointing it out by the way.

@QuebecBagnet

And sure enough after initially saying we wouldn’t hear much from them as they’re very quiet. Today there’s been a post with a photo of them in exceedingly tight pink lycra talking about their tummy pudge and how they love their unicorn top. 🤮

Now the rules of the group strictly have been cycling posts only. You’re only meant to talk about yourself one day a week on “tell us Tuesday “ when the rules are relaxed. Obviously the rules don’t apply if you have a penis.

Odd isn’t it for all the talk of feeling like a woman how they act like men. Announcing their presence, thinking people give a shit, seeking validation, ignoring rules.

And I bet none of the mods will rap them over the knuckles for not following the group rules because they have to be kind and/or they're frightened of being accused of transphobia.

See I always thought the kool aid reference was to Ken Kesey and LSD laced kool aid so you'd believe anything.

lovelyweathertoday · 12/03/2022 18:27

I accept I am probably wrong about that, just that was the link I made.

LizziesTwin · 12/03/2022 18:57

Has anyone brave from here posted on VV today introducing themselves to the group?

LizziesTwin · 12/03/2022 18:58

Please don’t out yourself if you havez

PurgatoryOfPotholes · 12/03/2022 19:21

I saw female cyclists on twitter talking about leaving this group, too.

I think they'll have lost a good few members, altogether!

Distantview · 12/03/2022 19:27

How many are on there now? It was 12,000 when I left without saying goodbye.

PurgatoryOfPotholes · 12/03/2022 19:36

12,209 members left.

Colliemayhem · 12/03/2022 21:41

I wasn’t happy at the post or the comments which is a pity as it is usually such a supportive group. I have stayed in the group but blocked the individual so I don’t see his posts or comments. I will see how it goes.

littlbrowndog · 12/03/2022 21:51

I do think men just do this for the laughs

Go into womens groups. Troll them

See how far they can push it. It’s trolling

I game with exactly 100 men at the moment , it can vary

This trolling appeals to some men

Many women seem to fall for it being sincere it’s not. It’s trolling

PegasusReturns · 12/03/2022 21:51

I’m sorry this has happened in your group. It’s the same in every womens group ever.

The fawning is intolerable.

Someone posted about transgender people being maybe more wealthy then cisgender people (hence being included by the clothing company for their money) because of having fewer children. I thought this was interesting so did some digging.

Their post got removed for, I assume, other reasons, but I thought you'd like to see my findings anyway:

There have actually been some studies relating to this, measuring incomes of LGBT people.

One finding being that cisgender people are paid about 32% more than transgender people. www.forbes.com/sites/jamiewareham/2021/11/17/transgender-pay-gap-revealed-cisgender-people-paid-32-more/?sh=3341b80317b2

In the USA 29% of transgender people live in poverty (compared to about 16% of cisgender people) williamsinstitute.law.ucla.edu/publications/lgbt-poverty-us/

Trans people in the UK also face employment discrimination at high rates, a report a few years ago found that 1 in 3 employers admit to being less likely to hire a trans person (this is even against the EA2010!) www.crosslandsolicitors.com/site/hr-hub/transgender-discrimination-in-UK-workplaces

Regardless of what opinions you hold about trans people, it's a fact that they are able to earn less than cisgender people, and suffer increased rates of poverty. It's interesting speculation, but in this case not really supported by the facts.

PurgatoryOfPotholes · 13/03/2022 15:55

Was this data disaggregated by sex, or were transmen, male and female people with non-binary identities, and transwomen all lumped together as "trans people"?

PurgatoryOfPotholes · 13/03/2022 16:02

I'd also like a breakdown according to neurological differences.

Autistic people, even those with degrees, are massively underemployed (over 50% last time I checked) and autistic young females are also over-represented amongst young female transitioners.

I would be interested to see the results of an investigation into employment stats for autistic female humans who describe themselves as trans and another cohort of autistic female humans who do not, balanced for ethnicity, social class and so on.
