From Glinner's update - this is brilliant:

Can you please explain how Kemi Badenoch "voted ... [a]gainst marriage equality for LGB people", yorkshirefirst, when same sex marriage (England and Wales) has not been revoted in Parliament since legalised by the Marriage Act 2013, and Badenoch only became an MP in 2017?

As far as I am aware, the only relevant vote on same sex marriage in the UK Parliament since 2017 was on the McGinn amendment to the Northern Ireland (Executive Formation) Bill -- upon which occasion Badenoch was recorded as absent.

Thanks!

Hahaha, I guess that's what we call busted!

achillestoes · 12/07/2022 14:40

Apparently Kemi also nailed (well, taped) female and male signs to the gender neutral toilets at her launch.

Minister for Women, please!

Motorina · 12/07/2022 14:42

Or for health?

I think she’s unlikely to win, but hopefully she will do well enough to get a major cabinet role at the end.

If Mordaunt wins it'll end up being someone like Caroline Noakes.
God what a depressing thought! I'm getting a sinking feeling.

ResisterRex · 12/07/2022 16:08

Sorry to say but I think she needs two more. The green line = 20. The two top rows don't count.

(Yes I've been watching the list!)

achillestoes · 12/07/2022 16:09

Imagine Nokes, Mordaunt and Miller working together as a TRA-triad. Then contact your MP!

Mordaunt as PM means I vote Labour.

Oh doh! You are quite right.

Motorina · 12/07/2022 17:05

I don’t think she’s going to make it, sadly.

ResisterRex · 12/07/2022 17:06

She's so close

ResisterRex · 12/07/2022 17:07

I read on the BBC that Braverman says she has 20 backers. But not on the spreadsheet. So maybe some are not going public?

JustSpeculation · 12/07/2022 17:13

BBC have said she's made it.

Surely one or two of the other 150 conservative MPs can have a little think and support a candidate (even if it isn't my idea of the "right' one). It was odd that she received so little press coverage in the tabloids this week (or maybe I was just reading the wrong bits).

achillestoes · 12/07/2022 17:27

She’s definitely on. Not everyone declares who they’re supporting.

Ides · 12/07/2022 17:50

Badenoch is right wing and on the side of the bullies everywhere, it seems, other than in the context of natal women versus transwomen. In that context, she's a 'lefty'. Yeah right. Absolutely plausible, that is.

There really is nothing more pathetically contemptible in politics than a powerful group bleating, whining and bursting into tears about being 'oppressed' by a clearly much less powerful group.

I can't actually think of a more glittering example of 'First World Problem' than that of natal British heterosexual woman claiming that she's oppressed (or even 'cancelled' - whatever the F that actually means) by a class of person - transwomen - that she's probably never even met.

Well we agree on one thing.

I would love to see Kemi as PM. There is something really admirable about her, she gives off an air of integrity and no I don’t agree with her on everything.

I can’t actually think of a more glittering example of ‘first world problem’ than that of of natal British heterosexual males (aka trans women) claiming that they are oppressed by a class of person - women - because they are saying “no thank you”.

Theeyeballsinthesky · 12/07/2022 18:05

Yes I too find the number of white straight middle aged middle class men bleating, whining & bursting into tears about being oppressed despite every institution in the country bending over to validate & accommodate their fetish pretty sickening as well

endofthelinefinally · 12/07/2022 18:13

I don't agree with using experimental, toxic drugs to sterilize children. I don't think young teens and preteens can possibly understand the impact of these drugs and mutilating surgery. I am horrified that trans rights activists think this is a controversial and unacceptable view.

That's what it seems to be.

Would love Kemi to get in, not least because it'll force Labour and Libs to have a good hard look at themselves and some reflection on their ever more stark lack of diversity and females in their party leaders.

achillestoes · 12/07/2022 18:17

@Ides

So do you argue here that I can go into my workplace or the public square and say “TW are male/men” and nothing bad will happen to me?

Tallisker · 12/07/2022 18:20

Look look! Ides made another post without mentioning cock and balls! That's two now.

bellinisurge · 12/07/2022 18:25

@MsMcGonagall

I think there’s a difference between austerity and running public services in a cost-efficient way. There’s a good argument that govt is too big.

It certainly does seem to be packed out with 'Equality Diversity and Inclusion' teams, while failing to notice that girls in poverty have been thrown to the wolves for decades.

The priority should be protecting poorer children, not men.
