Feminism: Sex and gender discussions

Does anyone else cringe at the word "diversity"?

I had this email from someone on Crowdfunder...
"I am raising funds for the Lenny Henry Centre for Media Diversity at Birmingham City University.
In the last year, the centre has revealed the racism and prejudice actors face when they go auditions and, for the first time, exposed the lack of gender diversity of sound recordists. We're now building programmes to address this problem. So far, our research has highlighted specific problems for disabled people working in the industry and created more job opportunities for Black people behind the camera. Additionally, we are working with major broadcasters to change how they report on race, gender and disability."
I have no problem with the race and disability part, but what on earth does "lack of gender diversity of sound recordists" mean? That there aren't enough women? or that there aren't enough blue-hairs who can't decide what they are? or there aren't enough transwomen?
It's come to a point where I'm suspicious that any organisation that mentions diversity is a TRA, even if they're talking about hedgehog populations! :)

@thinkingaboutLangCleg

I have been mispronouncing it as Divicity so have decided forthwith to stick with Divicity and Exclusion.

Grin

Brilliant. It's that in my head from now on.
KittenKong · 01/03/2022 08:30

What’s Divicity? I don’t get it…Confused

“Is it OK to allow an intact male to shower alongside a 12-year-old girl?”

Is it okay for an adult naked woman to shower alongside a 12-year-old girl?
I'm asking if the sex of the adult is your only issue with that scenario.[/quote]
@Lekisa658 Can you name the sex that commits over 90% of sexual assaults?

KittenKong · 01/03/2022 08:33

So they’d have been cool when as a young woman (puberty hitting and boobs appearing) or child showering with naked males ?

Helleofabore · 01/03/2022 08:35

I am laughing at the tropish ‘gotcha’ is females having their genitals out. The number of people I see use that as some kind of inspired comeback is quite staggering.

Yeah. If our vaginas are out on display, it is probably a significant medical issue. We might even be on a coroners slab in a lab.

We have poster’s really ticking off the bingo list. Now that is kind! Love me a game of bingo!

SunniDelite · 01/03/2022 09:04

Now we have an actual TR supporter engaging with us, perhaps it's a good time to get a straight answer.
What rights do trans people want that they don't already have?
(Also, is your Mum a woman? Did you float around for nine months in amniotic fluid? Gross, eh?)

I think this poster realises that they don't have anywhere else to go on this thread. They've wheeled out all the poor analogies and misinformed gotchas and no one is impressed. I expect they'll pop up on a different thread.

SunniDelite · 01/03/2022 09:16

You're right, they've abandoned ship and turned up on another thread.

Trans women do not currently have a right to be treated equally as women, and you are militantly opposed to trans women having such a right.

Also, yes, your obsession with my mom or how I was born continues to be gross.

SamphiretheStickerist · 01/03/2022 09:39

Quite right. Transwomen are not women. They wouldn't be transwomen otherwise.

What other innate human characteristic do you believe we can simply wish ourselves out of or into?

The problem with touting illogic is that it cannot be sustained. At some point you sound laughably ill informed, as this thread has shown.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 01/03/2022 09:40

Don't they? They have exactly the same human rights as anyone else. They're male, so they have exactly the same legal rights of any member of the male sex.

That actually made me laugh out loud.

Brilliantly evocative.

😂

'Gross'.

On a website called Mumsnet 😁

Lovelyricepudding · 01/03/2022 09:59

I am NOT disabled and I don't have the right to be treated as if I am. I am not allowed to park in disabled parking spaces. Councils won't give me a blue bag. DWP won't pay me PIP. My husband doesn't get in free as my carer or receive carers allowance. Do you think I should have the right to these things?

Lovelyricepudding · 01/03/2022 10:01

Blue badge! (My council won't give me a blue bag either but I don't think anyone gets those)

Have we got to clownfish yet?
Ereshkigalangcleg · 01/03/2022 10:12

Do you know I don't think we have gone into piscine sex change gotchas yet.

Maybe that's in the diary for today.
Ereshkigalangcleg · 01/03/2022 10:24

They're busy educating us on other threads.

Goatsaregreat · 01/03/2022 10:33

Good grief, I hadn't realised that our brand new poster was all over so many threads Grin

Helleofabore · 01/03/2022 10:55

Have we got to clownfish yet?

On one of the threads, I have lost track, there has been the 'biology is not binary'. Does that count?

I am awaiting evidence that proves that assertion.... I am willing to take bets on just which link is provided.

I don't think you'll get even that link, to be honest.
Helleofabore · 01/03/2022 11:03

Well, I have offered some links in return. So it would be a fair exchange, no?

SunniDelite · 01/03/2022 11:08

Lekisa, I'm not obsessed with your Mum or anyone else's, I'd just like you to admit that you, like every human being who has ever lived, has been grown inside a woman's body. If you find that gross, it's very disrespectful to your mother.
It's easy to say "My mother is a woman", I wonder why you can't. She is a woman who probably hates things like mixed sex toilets, which have been imposed on women in the name of "diversity".

It would. I hope you keep asking!

My impression of this person is that they are very angry and are just firing off the most ridiculous sentences to make themselves feel calmer.

I don't think you'll get anything remotely resembling a considered response.

I'd love to be wrong, though!
