Feminism: Sex and gender discussions

Does anyone else cringe at the word "diversity"?

I had this email from someone on Crowdfunder...
"I am raising funds for the Lenny Henry Centre for Media Diversity at Birmingham City University.
In the last year, the centre has revealed the racism and prejudice actors face when they go auditions and, for the first time, exposed the lack of gender diversity of sound recordists. We're now building programmes to address this problem. So far, our research has highlighted specific problems for disabled people working in the industry and created more job opportunities for Black people behind the camera. Additionally, we are working with major broadcasters to change how they report on race, gender and disability."
I have no problem with the race and disability part, but what on earth does "lack of gender diversity of sound recordists" mean? That there aren't enough women? or that there aren't enough blue-hairs who can't decide what they are? or there aren't enough transwomen?
It's come to a point where I'm suspicious that any organisation that mentions diversity is a TRA, even if they're talking about hedgehog populations! :)

@Ereshkigalangcleg

And perhaps some posters are quite unaware just how many readers read these threads after either being directed to 'educate' themselves or because they realise that something is not quite as it is being presented by trans activists.

Those readers are very much getting their fill of the inane arguments and points being used by extreme trans activist posters on these threads today.

TRAs don't call the site a "radicalisation portal" for nothing.
**@Lekisa658* I care that all* women can ask for same sex care in healthcare settings. That includes your mum. Call me names, but I'm the one considering her rights. Why can't your mum come first?
What about those "females" who do not want to be called "women" and will actively avoid any services that refer to them as "women"?

Do you care to accommodate them, by not insisting on referring to them as such?

[And I've told you, you do not get to mention my mother, creep.]

Lekisa658 · 01/03/2022 16:56

“Are you really, honestly, truly ignorant of the fact that sex crimes, all of them, are committed by men in nearly 99% of the cases. And statistically men who call themselves transwomen are overrepresented in prison in terms of sex crimes.”

I think of that the same way I think of "13/50" being thrown at me by racists. Percentages mean nothing to me. They do not justify discrimination.

SamphiretheStickerist · 01/03/2022 16:57

It's honestly disturbing that you have to get all creepy and personal about this nonsense.

That's because, for women, this is entirely personal. It is our safety and dignity that is being eroded.

Do not speak of my mother. Not in your questions, not in your hypothetical scenarios. You are not entitled to use the image of my mother for your transphobic bullshit.

Personal you say?

SunniDelite · 01/03/2022 16:58

Wow! Sounds a bit like a threat.... :o

@Lekisa658 Women who are happy to washed by men can make that decision. Women who want to say they are men should not wash any man who has asked for same-sex healthcare. As those men want male care.

I think it's creepy that Brian has priority over your mum's wishes.

Dear God, you can't be this silly. It's not discrimination, it's safeguarding.

Do you think that people who work with children should be DBS checked? Or shall we just let paedophiles work with children because it's discriminatory not to?

How to say I am a clueless twonk without actually saying the words...

I think of that the same way I think of "13/50" being thrown at me by racists. Percentages mean nothing to me. They do not justify discrimination.

Then you actually know nothing about safeguarding at all.

Thanks for confirming that fact with this statement.

I take it that no evidence will be forthcoming?

Just more ad hominem attacks to distract readers from your lack of reasoned arguments.

Look everyone ..... there is a squirrel!!!!

I'm laughing at this now. You must be very young. If percentages mean nothing to you, then how do you get to decide whether or not people who say they are trans are oppressed?

You can't count any of them!!

Helleofabore · 01/03/2022 17:02

Dear God, you can't be this silly. It's not discrimination, it's safeguarding.

I think they are. They seem to have no clue as to discrimination and how it can be used as either a tool for safety and progress as well as for harm.

The complete lack of nuance on these threads today has been outstanding!

Would belligerent, woman-hating men please ask other men, instead of other women, to "be kind" to them? Fellow men can "be kind" in hospital wards, in prisons, in changing rooms and in single-sex toilets.

Some hulking bearded men like to wear conventional men's clothes and live a conventional manly life, including in some well known cases, being repeat rapists of women (or children), yet still say "magic words" to declare themselves not to be men at all. Others like to attempt to pass themselves off as women by using drag.

In the cases where a man in women's clothes needs to enter a toilet, prison, hospital ward, or changing room, he must take the risk that other men might give him a curious glance of surprise, which he might choose to interpret as "unkind".

But at least he is completely safe, knowing his fellow men will not make any sexual moves towards him; because most men almost never make unwanted sexual advances, do they?

But in any case, he has the extra, inbuilt, security guard of his own manly strength, developed over his entire previous life and as the non-erasable result of having every cell of his body 'xy'.

If one man is so "unkind" as to attempt unwanted touching of a fellow man, (however one or both are attired) they would each have their manly equality of physical strength to fight one another off.

In the extreme case, where perhaps several men ganged up to hurt a fellow man (no matter how any of them are dressed) then the assaulted man would certainly not become pregnant, and would have more chance of being strong enough to survive alive.

Therefore, those with 'xy' chromosomes, are at all times and everywhere have little or nothing to fear from their fellow men.

In contrast, everywhere and all the time, those with 'xx' chromosomes have a great deal to fear from men : Wearing dresses or wearing penguin suits, they are still 'xx'

HelloCrocus · 01/03/2022 17:03

There's a lot of talk today about who "gets to" say what and who is "in a position to" say what. It's an oddly aggressive and controlling way to try to conduct a discussion. All quite reminiscent of looking after a toddler, except I'm not inclined to chuckle fondly.

Helleofabore · 01/03/2022 17:04

If percentages mean nothing to you, then how do you get to decide whether or not people who say they are trans are oppressed?

Shall we turn the evidence question around and ask for the evidence on just why UK trans people are considered to be the most vulnerable and marginalised in the the country?

Can you at least provide this Lekisa because your arguments are showing a deep lack of understanding on feminist issues? On the female lived experience and on, well, a lack of understanding on much at all. It all seems very superficial.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 01/03/2022 17:05

Indeed.

Confused as I said earlier, Lekisa has pretty much talked themselves out of believing in anything at all.

Yes, very telling.

Truly Eresh, I think that some posters have talked themselves out of being credible about anything at all.

Helleofabore · 01/03/2022 17:14

And they have announced their departure from MN.

Textbook.

SamphiretheStickerist · 01/03/2022 17:18

... Whilst leaving a toe in the door, obviously 🙃

Helleofabore · 01/03/2022 17:21

yes, just enough deletions to not be banned so they can come again.

I do hope that they bring some evidence though. That would be interesting.

nauticant · 01/03/2022 17:22

"13/50" is part of the US social justice wars.

Do we have a young thinned-skinned American male or female lecturing us? Looking at their user name I have doubts about female.
