"We want to update on a recent investigation into a breach of our Code of Conduct by a volunteer that received public attention. Girlguiding operates a thorough complaints procedure and takes all concerns raised very seriously.
In this case, the volunteer cooperated fully and the investigation has concluded. The volunteer made the decision to leave and is no longer a volunteer at Girlguiding."

Wow. Is this Monica Sulley?

Linguini · 16/02/2022 14:12

The paraphilic gun waver then?

Why not just keep GG single sex and avoid all these inevitable problems.

MrsPsmalls · 16/02/2022 14:13

Good if it is Sulley. And hopefully guiding can learn from this.

WinterTrees · 16/02/2022 14:13

Great. So it's going to take women doing the work, joining the dots, being vigilant to maintain safeguarding in GG, rather than them taking responsibility for any change in policy. Am I understanding that right?

sacredfeminina · 16/02/2022 14:14

They cant just wait for lots of people to complain about a man working within girlguides and then just wait for him to resign... Is that their safeguarding policy?

sacredfeminina · 16/02/2022 14:15

That is a shit safeguarding policy and I will not put my girls in that organisation until they have a more robust one.

vivariumvivariumsvivaria · 16/02/2022 14:25

Monica's back at the scouts, then?

DomesticatedZombie · 16/02/2022 14:26

Yep.
Datun · 16/02/2022 14:28

What does that even mean? That Sulley jumped before they were pushed? Or that the guides would have allowed them to stay but sulley themself decided against it?

It's a shit statement. We conducted an investigation and now the person wants to leave.

it's meaningless.

SamphiretheStickerist · 16/02/2022 14:28

And those women who were reported/told they would be reported to the police?

Their previous Twitter utterances?

timeisnotaline · 16/02/2022 14:29

If it’s sulley, wasn’t there a recentish update that they had been about to start back as an active volunteer when someone else protested /something else came up? So gg were happy to have them back working?

Whatwouldscullydo · 16/02/2022 14:30

Investigation? Yeah right everyone did that for you. And you still.made no decision to fire them.they just left.

This doesn't exactly show that Gg are prepared to uphold safguarding does it. Its not up to strangers on the Internet and the parents to do the work.for them.

Absolutely. They have failed abysmally to demonstrate their safeguarding ability or understanding. Dangerously compromised.
DomesticatedZombie · 16/02/2022 14:32

Sulley is no longer listed on the page they were listed on:

www.girlguidingnottinghamshire.org.uk/who-we-are/meet-the-team/

Sulley is only the symptom, in any case. GG's handling of this whole affair is the real issue.

Exactly.

And how does it prevent girl guides from being a target for predators?

Now every male predator in the country knows that they can go and work at the girl guides. Even if their entire social media is full of sexualised content and breaches guides' social media policy!

This is the exact loophole that safeguarders talk about.

ShoppingWomble · 16/02/2022 14:38

Have you seen their statement on safeguarding and compliance? Fuming so much I had to unlurk!

www.girlguiding.org.uk/about-us/press-releases/public-statement-on-our-safeguarding-and-compliance-procedure/

For several months, we’ve been subject to some offensive and abusive messages that no one should receive, whether staff or volunteer. These messages are fuelling a lot of misinformation on our compliance and safeguarding procedures. We call for respect and kindness.

We’re proud to be an inclusive organisation. Safeguarding is our highest priority. Girlguiding is delivered by more than 80,000 remarkable volunteers and our trained volunteers follow a Code of Conduct, policies and procedures to ensure our Rainbows, Brownies, Guides and Rangers unit meetings and events are delivered safely every week.

A lot of care and attention to detail goes into making guiding happen safely and ensuring that all our young members’ needs are balanced and considered.

Our rigorous recruitment and vetting processes and policies help keep our members safe. We comply with all legislative requirements and continually review and strengthen our safeguarding procedures coupled with bespoke safeguarding training to create and maintain a safe space for all.

Girlguiding operates a thorough complaints procedure and takes all safeguarding concerns, allegations and disclosures raised very seriously. When we receive a complaint or there’s a potential breach of the Code of Conduct or policy, we follow our complaints procedure. This involves the local guiding team managing the investigation, with relevant support from senior leaders and the central specialist teams. Serious concerns are escalated to the relevant authorities.

At Girlguiding, we have a duty of care to staff and all members, which we take seriously. We welcome constructive feedback that enhances Girlguiding. Where communications are threatening or harmful, and in extreme cases, we support individuals if they choose to refer them to the police. If Girlguiding is contacted by the police or any other statutory agency, we will cooperate as required to do so.

We have been looking after girls and young women for over 100 years and we always have their needs, their safety and their enjoyment at the heart of everything that we do.

DomesticatedZombie · 16/02/2022 14:41

'When we receive a complaint or there’s a potential breach of the Code of Conduct or policy, we follow our complaints procedure.' - this includes reporting the complainer to the police, does it?

DomesticatedZombie · 16/02/2022 14:41

They are lying liars.

reallyisthisallthereis · 16/02/2022 14:43

I'm disappointed by girl guiding's response to this. As a leader myself I am increasingly disillusioned with the top of the organisation.

KittenKong · 16/02/2022 14:48

@SamphiretheStickerist

And those women who were reported/told they would be reported to the police?

Their previous Twitter utterances?

I was wondering that too?
vivariumvivariumsvivaria · 16/02/2022 14:49

Fucking idiots are going to cause the organisation to collapse.

It's the only global network of women providing fun, skills and friendship for girls which has a proud, and lengthy, history.

Or, at least, it was.

Cailleach1 · 16/02/2022 14:54

I wouldn't trust them with any girl under my care. I think they have shown that their alignment to this ideological movement is more important to them than the welfare and wellbeing of the girls entrusted to them; and for which was their whole raison d'être.

Whatwouldscullydo · 16/02/2022 14:54

I expect there's much glee about all this. I mean if men /males had stepped up to run and/or attend the scouts then the scouts taking girls wouldn't have been necessary. Instead of realising this and attempting to encourage men/males to do this the obvious thing to do instead was to ensure girls didn't get their space either Hmm

Cailleach1 · 16/02/2022 15:03

Is the Scouts an alternative? I wonder if as many Sulley's would be in the wings to be welcomed into any female single sex spaces. irrespective of whether it was in the girls interests of safety. Their HQ would no more prioritise the safeguarding of girls than that of the GG, I'd suspect.

RoyalCorgi · 16/02/2022 15:03

If I said what I really thought at this point I'd probably be kicked off Mumsnet.
