I wasn't trying to say they aren't dangerous. Just pointing out the pictured gun is a legal air gun and not an "assault rifle" as I've seen it called in the media.

Except it was an assault rifle. It was a 'replica' version, a BB assault rifle. That's the point of it.

We aren't stupid, you know. In fact I used to shoot tactical shotgun... fun, if bloody scary at times. They do that with BB guns now. It's safer and remains legal, easier to insure, etc.

I don’t give a shit if Susan the Guider goes home from each weekly Guiding meeting, takes off her uniform, puts on a leather dominatrix outfit and spends the rest of her evening beating her partner’s arse with a copy of the Guides’ handbook.

I do give a shit about Susan the Guider having sufficient critical judgement and knowledge of safeguarding to know that dressing as a dominatrix is for the privacy of her bedroom with other consenting adults only, and that any social media accounts she may have must be squeaky clean and make no reference to her sexual preferences or any adult activity incompatible with Girl Guiding’s policies for volunteers. And that complying with the latter does not mean she cannot indulge in her (legal) kinks and fetishes privately.

Most people are intelligent enough to grasp that.

Locally, yes. I was called to a disciplinary for being vocal about it on social media - I was "bringing GG into disrepute".
At the disciplinary I was asked if I would comply with GG policies and practices, I said I didn't think I could, and I resigned.

The difference is obvious and it is sex based. Which makes a complete nonsense of insisting that TW should have female only posts because they are also women. This is treating females less favourably on grounds of sex which is by definition discrimination.

Re this, I would be interested to see specifically what was said to judge whether the police talking to the complainant was appropriate or not.

The difference between us, then @MargaritaPie is that I tend to believe women, especially when they express concerns about fundamental issues around safeguarding.

The transwoman leader went through the GG's vetting process just like anyone else and was accepted. If she was considered any risk at all they wouldn't have let her become a leader to begin with.

But as mentioned above, anyone can have pretty policies, and safeguarding doesn't stop once an appointment has been made.

I am sorry you ended up in that position.

Nobody in GG is taking a basic step back and think that they did not and do not have a right to make decisions which should remain the choice of the parent or guardian.

But GG have been very vocal and adamant in the past that it should and will remain a single sex organisation. There are so many proven benefits to the girls and women who belong.
Every time the membership is surveyed the overwhelming response is that it should stay single sex.

If you ask the girls directly whether they'd like to have boys in Guides or Brownies, they say no. Typical reasons being that "boys spoil their games" or "boys boss us around" or "boys always win the games" or other similar responses you could probably guess at yourself.

Women too like the opportunity to "just be women". On camp we're free to look like shit! We chop the wood, erect the tents and do other "manly" things. And we like the way we are free to organise things without the hierarchical, often male dominated structure so many of us experience in work.

And yet, here we are in 2020, with all those benefits slowly being eroded.

I think that there is a deliberate conflating of the terms here. Of course, some posters have been on MN for long enough and seen the discussions enough to understand that people cannot change sex ever. And that 'single sex' is just that. Single sex.

And that pushing this agenda that sex can be changed is actually harmful to trans people.

I am sure that pie will confirm that they are not the self-appointed spokesperson for trans people and should therefore stop this harmful agenda.

Or else, it is just showing up the credibility of posters who do continue to push that sex can be changed.

Not on paper, but in reality it has. Because GG are conflating sex and gender.

I'm less anti transwomen who have had surgery and who are being medically "treated" joining GG (though still have my reservations).

But GG is happy with self-ID. Meaning anyone who says they are a woman or girl can join, and (I repeat), Leaders are specifically told NOT to call out on a residential risk assessment that someone with a penis, who was happy with his manhood last week but who has recently decided life is better as a woman, can sleep, toilet, shower alongside girls and women. And help very young girls with these activities.

It really has fuck all to do with whether the weapons shot bullets or pallets. A supposedly mature adult who was in a leadership position with girl guides was irresponsible in posing with any weapon in the positions they were using on social media. Fake, or firing pallets or bullets.
