As Putin has now invaded I can't imagine the situations for the pregnant surrogate mothers are about to improve. Whilst pregnant they are least stand a chance of being helped because of the 'precious cargo' their wombs carry and I'm glad the anon woman wasn't forced to leave her family and give birth in Georgia as the commissioning parents were trying to force her to do (I say forced, the article says 'compelled', as in legally compelled).

The comments in that article seem to be relatively split, but I was pleased to see a far few calling surrogacy what it is.

Surrogacy agencies in the U.K. no longer require women to have had experience pregnancy and birth in order to apply to be considered for a surrogacy arrangement.

COTS was the agency Kim Eldridge, the 'Travelling Surrogate' was with, and this relatively new agency also encourages women who are 'childless by choice' to have children for other people.

With Kim, I can understand it to a degree - her mother did it in the same way (her egg, so Kim's siblings) 6 times so Kim saw all this growing up. Obviously the situation and background of this woman who has just been 'matched' isn't mentioned. My concern is, if you don't want children yourself, why are you compelled to do it for others, what would be your reasons for going through all this when you have no idea what you're letting yourself in for? How can you give informed consent when you haven't been pregnant and been through labour? Is consent ok if it's not informed consent?
