Good to see another successful author speaking out

'JK Rowling is a gold-plated hero': Author Anthony Horowitz blasts cancel culture and says writers are 'under siege' and should 'lead the agenda, not be cowed by it'

I know!!!

A new poster comes along to post incoherent paragraphs holding obvious prejudiced views against the group who may form a large portion of the posters on the forum they are posting. The idea is that any position taken by the other posters of the group can then be denigrated and refuted in this new posters supercilious (or super sillyousness) manner. Even questioning what the paragraphs mean is positioned as a lack of comprehensive skills.

I think this is a new win/win style of posting being tested here.

PurgatoryOfPotholes · 09/02/2022 09:46

I thought you were out, cheating at golf.

(Yes, using a football goal to score your holes-in-one is cheating.)

Do you know what "immutable" means. If you have some here with your "immutable" point of view, then that rather makes you your own echo chamber, doesn't it?

Ploppingperp06 · 09/02/2022 09:47

@PurgatoryOfPotholes

I was playing golf now I’m home for dinner. And if you mean a soccer ball I don’t allow such things in my home.

You initiated a discussion about Maya Forstater's case (subject to the Laws of England & Wales)) and Scouts in the UK admitting girls being one and the same thing. So I'll ask you again, what has the one got to do with the other? What have cases that have gone on worldwide got to do with either?

PurgatoryOfPotholes · 09/02/2022 09:51

Naturally not. Footballs are kept outside, in the garden!

Have you read the Magpie Mysteries by Anthony Horowitz?

Helleofabore · 09/02/2022 09:56

This then turned to discussion on comments being deleted easily here which was both agreed and disagreed with - but of course only the people making “good” comments were being deleted and nobody else. This “only feminist comments are deleted” viewpoint was agreed upon by feminists here, a position which was called (by me) evidence of an echo chamber which was heartily denied by said feminists

Fuck me. Are we even on the same thread?????

Because that is just one more of your bad takes.

Posters commented that the guidelines were applied to ALL posters to refute your claim that any posts that 'went against the grain' were deleted.

It has been clear since the very beginning that you hold a prejudiced view of feminists and women who are discussing the issues facing females of all ages currently. And you seem to be really poor at debate or even posting a clearly defined position. But now I think all your aim was, was to come and lecture the women to feed your ego.

The basic immutable point of all this being that those who defend Rowling’s free speech against trans ideology can also be observed trying to shut down free speech for others by either calling it “hate” or “prejudice” (examples of this phrase being used are present in these posts).

Can we please have evidence for this claim? Since it is 'immutable', link us up to those defending Rowling's right to free speech shutting down other's free speech.

And please also link us up to the evidence that it was transphobic.

And yes ploppy, your prejudice has been clear from the start.

I'm sure he's got some grammar and punctuation homework to finish off too, Helleofabore.

@RufustheFloralmissingreindeer

Repeat whatever you wanted clarification on now

I missed this

C’mon curry….you’ve been told 😀😀😀

Absolutely!

And now this command:

State exactly what you want to know, as I’m not searching through all your posts and trying to guess.

All because he can’t be bothered scrolling back four posts from his last to check whether he’d actually addressed my point (he hadn’t).

And in both my posts addressed to him, I gave exactly the same quotation of the false claim he made.

Ironically, he’s also generalizing wildly about us, based on his false impression that somehow we are the same women as the past feminists he’s demonizing.

Happily though, despite that, and his opposing view, he won’t be deleted and everyone who can read will see his failure to prove the claims he made as well as his failed attempts at distraction.

Helleofabore · 09/02/2022 10:08

Footballs are kept outside, in the garden!

Well..... you know, in a snow bound country, football goals could be set up in a basement .....

Helleofabore · 09/02/2022 10:12

Oh... but NO prejudice is there, just like it is US who have comprehension issues.

Happily though, despite that, and his opposing view, he won’t be deleted and everyone who can read will see his failure to prove the claims he made as well as his failed attempts at distraction.

Always love a live demonstration of the bonkers direction that some threads take. This one really was diverting but in no way meaningful. I am still not convinced that it is not a regular poster on a wind up. They hit many bingo markers. Some in the same sentence.

💩

I love how it can’t possibly be evidence of him being wrong. 😁

Late to the thread so I've missed the plopping in real time. Has the plopper finished plopping? Should I give it a few minutes?... :)

Beowulfa · 09/02/2022 10:20

I only realised later that Horowitz's great novel was called The Falcon's Malteser, as the edition I had in the early 90s was called Just Ask For Diamond (must have been the film tie-in copy I now realise). My brother and I loved that book; I even remember lines like "I threw the boomerang away. It came back."

First I've heard of male authors saying they have to write female characters more carefully. Anything that results in more considered, nuanced writing is fine by me.

allmywhat · 09/02/2022 10:20

Based on observance

I wanted to say this when he first appeared but restrained myself: “Observance” is difficult when you have your head up your arse.

Difficult to say. He’s claimed he’s stopping once, but didn’t manage.

He did reveal his opinion on women generally and feminists specifically with this comment, which I don’t think anyone has singled out for the attention it deserves yet!

I couldn’t care less about the scouts, they were lame when I was a kid and I wouldn’t have dreamed of going and I assume they’re even more so now what with the bearded ladies and feminists bossing the poor lads around.

Datun · 09/02/2022 10:33

First Horowitz defends Rollings right to say whatever she likes against trans-ideology,

Eh? I thought you said you disagreed heartily with cancel culture and it shouldn't be allowed!!

I was also under the impression that Horowitz hasn't even mentioned trans ideology.

I thought he said she was a good writer and has done a lot for charity.

I'll say this for transactivists, they are reliably consistent in their inconsistency.

LilithOfEden · 09/02/2022 10:33

If he had gone to Scouts, he might have learned how not to tie himself in knots.

I found this article about writing women last night!

Helleofabore · 09/02/2022 10:37

Currywurst

I used it to highlight the many 'streams' of activism we see here on this board. Some posters miss that there is a specific 'stream' of activism that is particularly 'busy' while posting.

And for a poster who declares they have 'no prejudices' apparent in their posting, I thought that one sentence encapsulated quite a number of prejudices clearly.

As I said. A gift that keeps on giving.
