What a hateful article

334bu · 27/01/2022 15:28

Thank you for link.

EmpressaurusWitchDoesntBurn · 27/01/2022 15:31

Excellent. Thank you.

@DetectiveFlorence

What a hateful article
How so?
Ereshkigalangcleg · 27/01/2022 15:35

Fabulous work from Suzanne Thanks

littlbrowndog · 27/01/2022 15:37

I thought it was brilliant funny and dead readable. Good read Suzanne

BobMortimersTrout · 27/01/2022 15:39

@ScreamingMeMe because it targets an individual pretty damn relentlessly. I'm no fan of Laurie Penny and I like Suzanne Moore, and thanks to mumsnet and becoming a mother I'm now GC, but this article seems more like a character assassination than a critique of the principles

CuntAmongstThePigeons · 27/01/2022 15:41

Superb as always!

Floisme · 27/01/2022 15:45

Quite frankly I think anyone who approaches The Evening Standard to complain about someone disrespecting their pronouns deserves any ridicule coming their way.

WarriorN · 27/01/2022 15:45

than a critique of the principles

It's exactly this.

Bindel is a lesbian. Laurie is in a heterosexual relationship. And yet claims to be lgbtq etc. Has caused a fuss as the wrong pronouns were used in a review of her book by Bindel.

Bindel even says she gets somethings right in the book.

Bindel is meanwhile researching and campaigning for things that are really affecting women's lives.

In what way @DetectiveFlorence

Letterasaurus · 27/01/2022 15:49

Go Suzanne. Excellent.

Pluvia · 27/01/2022 15:49

Good article. Where's the hate? I don't see any. Just a dollop of narcissism.

FOJN · 27/01/2022 15:51

but this article seems more like a character assassination than a critique of the principles

Did you even read it?

I was impressed with the use of preferred pronouns throughout, not a single mistake, that's quite an accomplishment. Of course it made it more difficult to know who was being referred to but at least no one will be offended.

I really enjoy Susan's (Grin) humour too.

Look, I'm not LP's biggest fan but I was at uni with her/them and she is definitely not heterosexual. Just because she settled with a bloke doesn’t stop her being bisexual or pansexual. She was always very genderqueer too, god knows we all were.

Suzanne Moore makes some fair points but it is a nasty ad hom article in places. As for the original spat, I don’t care. Let Bindel and Penny fight it out if they want to.

Sneering and aggressive - I hate reading stuff like that, I just find it cringey and embarrassing, and it doesn't help the ' discussion' in any way.

Just my opinion.

Iwishihadariver · 27/01/2022 15:54

But Bobmortimerstrout, Laurie Penney is making a whole career out of centering theirself in their outpourings to their audience. They is their own muse , model what have you. So the only way to critique their work is to focus on their focus.

@Iwishihadariver ok that is actually pretty accurate Grin I find her writing really annoying and hadn’t worked out why, but I think you’ve nailed it there

I didn't say she was heterosexual.

There's many key points within the article around feminism and how pronouns are the least of most women's issues.

Some things have added to the gaiety of my life, and Suzanne Moore has been reliably in the top three for about thirty years. At the moment I hate her a bit though, 'cause it's going to take a while to clean off all the tea I just guffawed over the monitor..

(Nothing hateful about it; if you don't want people to eviscerate you in print, don't be so pretentiously narcissistic that you're actually handing them the knife to cut you with..)

Thank you. I worked especially hard on the pronouns.

CompleteGinasaur · 27/01/2022 16:08

Grin Grin Grin

Nearly re-baptised the bloody monitor!
