Jennifer Swayne has been arrested on charges of vandalism, ‘hate crimes’ and public order offences. Police searched her house and removed several sheets of stickers.

This is slightly tangential but:

www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-australia-59144556

Careful, dedicated, diligent hard work that led to the rescue of a child and the arrest of the man who abducted her.

This is what we need the police for. Not arresting disabled women for posting feminist stickers. Gwent Police, hang your heads in shame.

@PurgatoryOfPotholes

jj made jokes. [heart eyes]
He did, and I felt like he'd come part of our wee community by the end.
ArabellaScott · 24/01/2022 14:45

Just checking the beeb to see if they're reporting on this persecution of a disabled woman, no mention of it, only some more criticism of Welsh police:

'"Currently available evidence strongly suggests failings in command structures and decisions, operational decisions and tactics, and communications."

The report continued: "The full extent of these failings and explanations for any failings can only be determined by a forensic investigation.'

This is bloody awful.

I feel that, as an initial response, "StickerWoman" needs to seriously go to town this week (she certainly will be quadrupling her efforts in my next of the wood every day this week).

VelvetChairGirl · 24/01/2022 14:54

@vivariumvivariumsvivaria

Am I missing something? This woman is protesting against femicide and has been arrested for a hate crime?

Those stickers don't say anything about transpeople.

Considering how many police officers get convicted for DV (and rape and murder) no I dont think you are missing something.

She said much the same about my neck of the woods Smile
yourhairiswinterfire · 24/01/2022 15:05

Why was the search warrant issued?

It doesn't need a search warrant, apparently.

Found this too:

There are specific circumstances under which police officers may enter a home without a warrant. These include situations where they wish to :

  • Rearrest an individual who has absconded from custody
  • Save a life or prevent the destruction of property
  • Arrest an individual accused of certain serious offences
  • Respond to a serious breach of the peace
  • Uncover evidence after an individual has been arrested (they may do this as long as they have reasonable grounds to believe they will find the evidence in question.)

Bit much for a bunch of stickers raising awareness of the consequences of male violence against women and girls Hmm

ScreamingMeMe · 24/01/2022 15:13

I think the suffragette ribbons in my neck of the woods are going to have a huge growth spurt.

CuriousaboutSamphire · 24/01/2022 15:15

But the arrest itself was out of proportion to the crime, wasn't it? Bill stickering is a fine and her stickers were about men, nothing trans about them!

It would be very interesting to see the precise charges! And the internal review.

PurgatoryOfPotholes · 24/01/2022 15:17

These Feminism Is Not A Crime! stickers look thematically appropriate as a response. If Stickerwoman is reading this thread.

VelvetChairGirl · 24/01/2022 15:22

@WarriorN

A flavour
Someone needs to go out with a pot of paint, and also contact the copyright holders for sailor moon and moomin and inform them the poilce are ignoring hate stickers put up in the area that is using their images.

I'd actually like some exactly like the ones Swayne was arrested for. Does anyone know if they're available? or were they custom?

Sophoclesthefox · 24/01/2022 15:26

Pretty sure that Stickerwoman has reach into my neck of the woods too. I anticipate when she’s finished her work for today, she might put on a pair of gloves and sticker her way round town.

She could be any unassuming middle aged woman. Bill stickers is yer mum!

I am really shocked at how little women have to do around this issue to draw the polices attention.

SheldonesqueTheBstard · 24/01/2022 15:27

@yourhairiswinterfire

The hypocrites posted this is November.

They promise to never remain silent about male violence against women.....but they'll arrest disabled women who won't remain silent about it for a ''hate crime''.

And to prove how much they really, really care about women's safety, they'll put that woman who has her arm in a splint out on the streets at 3:30am once they've done with her, to make her own way home on a disability scooter in the middle of winter without a phone.

🤬🤬

I wonder where they want white ribbons displayed?

Jazzing up a scold’s bridle or handcuffs perhaps?

PurgatoryOfPotholes · 24/01/2022 15:35

IntermittentParps I haven't seen ones like that before. I think they're custom, but I am certain feminists across the country are sorting out document files of them as we type.

And this is how you get caught.

(top tip, if you plan on committing a crime don't post about it on the internet, unless you are using encryption it is very easy to track down who you are)

BeyondShrinks · 24/01/2022 15:45

I for one would love to see the legalese used on mnhq, ordering them to produce our identities for threat of stickering.

Purely for entertainment value.

vivariumvivariumsvivaria · 24/01/2022 15:49

You know, @barleybadminton, I'm now at the stage of genuinely not minding if I get caught.

If the police choose to pursue the societal scourge that I represent - women who'd like to keep their legal rights to safety, privacy, and dignity, then, bring it on.

Do you know Dr Stella Nyanzi? She is an academic and activist in Uganda who uses “radical rudeness” as a tool. There is footage of her "defiant disrobing" on youtube. She's astonishingly brave. journal.equinoxpub.com/GL/article/view/21522

I seem to remember we were warned with the possibility of being arrested for terrorism at one point - if we, er, looked at the Kiwi farms website. 😂
Ereshkigalangcleg · 24/01/2022 15:54

Oh yes Datun!

scalliondays · 24/01/2022 15:55

This has made me really angry. I'm good for some digging.

PurgatoryOfPotholes · 24/01/2022 15:56

Barley Do you not realise you're dodging the issue of whether raising awareness of the number of women murdered each week should be a crime?

Ereshkigalangcleg · 24/01/2022 15:57

(top tip, if you plan on committing a crime don't post about it on the internet, unless you are using encryption it is very easy to track down who you are)

Mmm hmmm. So the police will be breaching the DPA to tackle hypothetical stickering crimes before they happen, will they?

Ereshkigalangcleg · 24/01/2022 15:59

We know now what they should include in Minority Report 2: The Stickering
