Jennifer Swayne has been arrested on charges of vandalism, ‘hate crimes’ and public order offences. Police searched her house and removed several sheets of stickers.

@PurgatoryOfPotholes

I've never seen it used on MN at all. Which is odd, because I keep seeing MN being fingered as the source of all transphobia in Britain/the English speaking world.
I didn't know what ACAB was until last night.

Until now, I'm always interpreted Troon as 'Troon Army' (football context).

Feeling very out of touch for an inhabitant of "the source of all transphobia in Britain/the English speaking world".

Alekto · 27/01/2022 15:21

Small point. Misogyny requires gynē to base the miso on.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 27/01/2022 15:27

I've never heard the word deliberately used about anyone who isn't trans, male or female. So it's not misogyny. I think it's fair to consider it transphobic in the way that term is generally applied.

FOJN · 27/01/2022 15:57

sometimes a women born biologically female who is presumed to look like a trans woman because she has masculine features. Was popularised on forums like 4chan and kiwi farms.

Never heard it used in reference to a woman whatever she looks like. I know nothing about 4chan but on KF I've only seen it applied to TW who have gained their attention through well publicised shocking behaviour, Janiv for example.

PurgatoryOfPotholes · 27/01/2022 16:29

I am unfamiliar with the term's derivation and usage, so I certainly can't comment on whether it's ever applied to women. But I am curious whether Barley, who must use forms of messageboard where it is used, takes the time to reprove the users there for being offensive.

Or is it just the mummies on MN who get told off?

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 27/01/2022 16:46

Well, it really isn't very nice for mummies to use strong language. Mummies are lovely because they put everyone else first and themselves last. It's very upsetting to some to find out that a few selfish and gobby mummies want people to notice that they exist in their own right, and even try to talk about things that don't concern them, like the law and the criminal justice system. These mummies soon show they don't really understand anything, though, so they'd do better to just shut up, and it's really a kindness to point this out before they make bigger fools of themselves.

RoyalCorgi · 27/01/2022 16:58

I've only ever seen "troons" used on Kiwi Farms, where they use it liberally, along with a whole bunch of other offensive and derogatory language.

Indeed.

Both the Times and the Mail - or possibly Harry Miller - have mis-statused Newport. It is a city 😄
Townphobic?

Bastards. Missstatusing is a hate crime. I'm sure it is.

TurquoiseBaubles · 27/01/2022 18:19

So Gwent Police have retweeted a BBC Wales News report about sharp objects behind stickers, and linked it (by inference) with Jennifer Swayne's arrest.

How on earth could they possibly think that's ok?

So far there are 17 likes and over 350 comments. Surely they must notice they've made a bit of a mistake here.

It's as if some people in charge of professional SM accounts don't understand ratio and how it works.

Or where their arse and elbow are located and the spatial relationship between the two.

Oh I think we all know it's only us 6 that get told off, for everything. I too am on other forums and I have yet to see anyone be told off for such words or in fact any words. And they say way way worse things than we do.
Artichokeleaves · 27/01/2022 21:04

If it's just six of us, that's quite a small gulag really. Gwent could stick it in a back office somewhere.

We've had Maya, Alison, Jennifer, Maria, Louise and the poor woman in Scotland whose name I can't remember who was locked up without sanpro for no apparent reason... that's at least six who have been arrested or in court rooms, and that's aside from Posie and Nicola and other well known women who stand up for women and children's rights. They're amazing women, all of them, but I don't think they have the time to be socks too to keep FWR as busy as it is.

I think that's a conflation of Kate S and Marian Miller. There's also the amazing woman in NI whose name I've forgotten who has so far (I think) refused to go to the police station, and I don't think has actually been arrested.

If we started totting up Gulag-worthy males who've had to engage with the police and courts, there's Glinner, Miranda Yardley and Harry Miller for a start.

ArabellaScott · 27/01/2022 21:35

Ceri.

MrBlobbyLivesNextDoor · 27/01/2022 21:37

They like to delude themselves there is only 6 of us.

A familiar pattern of delusion.

No need to take up a back office, just use the phone box….
Ereshkigalangcleg · 27/01/2022 23:12

It's not a terrible thing to be underestimated by people opposing you.

unwashedanddazed · 27/01/2022 23:22

We're constantly told TERF isn't offensive because it originated with feminists. As Troon originated on Something Awful, created by trans users, then surely the same principle applies. Troon is not a slur.

Although autocorrect changes it to groin for some reason.

(If anyone’s wondering why I’m not enraged about the tablets that were in the photo, that’s because I have, for sanity-maintenance purposes, to believe, that they were just put down for a moment while the photo was taken…)

Wish I had your optimism.

I'm worried they've left prescription drugs there for anyone to get their hands on

NEWPORT STATE OF MIND (YOU'RE NOT FROM NEWPORT)
Goldie Lookin Chain

You all remember Goldie Lookin Chain's 2004 hit single??

"Your Mother's Got a Penis" (referred to as simply "Your Mother" on BBC Radio 1) is a song by the British rap act Goldie Lookin Chain from their Greatest Hits album, released In November 2004. The song reached number fourteen on the UK Singles Chart.

Goldie Lookin Chain - Your Mother's Got A Penis (Official Music Video)

Given what is going on now, this is beyond surreal!!

And a mere 21 years later, could Newport be . . .

Thanks Ig.

It’s the kind of thing associated with the notorious Stasi secret police in communist East Germany, not officers from Gwent police in Wales.

1984 in action

If there weren't some serious issues around safeguarding, misogyny and physical harm to Jenni through this, the whole thing reads like a Simon Pegg film.
