Jennifer Swayne has been arrested on charges of vandalism, ‘hate crimes’ and public order offences. Police searched her house and removed several sheets of stickers.

There was no call.

So if there was no call to her husband, she was forced to choose between being escorted home by the people who refused to call her husband or going home on her own?

Lovelyricepudding · 27/01/2022 11:29

I am very dissapointed that both disability and mental health rights are being sidelined in the press.

I think it is as well the mental health aspect has been avoided - you are right there is still prejudice against this. Part of the prejudice would be 'she was just a crazy person' and best steer clear of that.

IntermittentParps · 27/01/2022 11:32

Thank you, Freeformation. They said they offered her transport home and she declined, so I'd just like to know for sure what was the case.

Freeformation · 27/01/2022 11:54

Somebody also mentioned that Jeff Cuthberts response has been to put a post on twitter saying how good Gwent Police are with metal health.

WRT the stickers produced by person from Cardiff - their claim that “shut the fuck up TERF” superimposed over an image of Lily from Zombieland Saga pointing [what they identify as] a [BB] gun at the observer isn’t threatening violence really is just staggering isn’t it? At this point I wouldn’t be that surprised if the police started identifying as art critics &/or art historians, but even if they’re not yet there I’d expect someone who describes themselves as an artist to have some basic ability to interpret images. Particularly if they are going to use them in their activism.

I absolutely believe that the stickers are meant to intimidate women & possibly to make them fear violence. I wouldn’t usually think it at all likely someone posting stickers of that sort would commit violent acts themselves, however it seems only too possible in this case (especially if you keep reading the updates on that thread).

With all the characters in the world to choose from for that meme, the creator opted for an adolescent girl-zombie.

“Lily was very concerned when her body began to enter puberty because she never wanted to become an adult and develop a body that would conflict with her gender identity…Her death was caused by a combination of things that drained her emotionally, including a very strained relationship with her father and the overwork deprived of her job, the second that also drained her physically. The last straw for all this accumulated stress and depression was seeing a single facial hair begin to grow, with the impact of even her body going against her wishes, causing her to suffer a fatal heart attack.”

Could this be where the idea the wrong puberty is fatal has come from?

[Over-]identifying with a trans child who literally died because they didn’t want to grow up - but is somehow also very mature & ready for relationships (except when she is childish, including being rude/unkind, but she gets a free pass on that): really doesn’t seem healthy.

I can only think that Gwent Police’s understanding of “transphobic hate crime” is “anything that might mildly upset a trans person anywhere on the planet should they hear of it”. Such a pity they aren’t so thorough with rather more tangible crimes. Like VAWG, for example.

I’m not one for thinking people should sue everyone left right & centre; but I very much hope that Jennifer receives compensation after this is sorted.

I've no idea but there's apparently been two out stickering with new stickers without the guns etc (good they're taking notice that they could actually be arrested for that if Jen could for her stuff) and the images just look really childish.

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 27/01/2022 12:53

@troonpilled account is suspended. Twitter moderators may perhaps finally have acted on the gun images.

WarriorN · 27/01/2022 13:00

How come she's suspended then?

WarriorN · 27/01/2022 13:03

Ah her twitter thread. Luckily it seems it's been saved by many

barleybadminton · 27/01/2022 13:07

@WarriorN

How come she's suspended then?
Probably because troon is a derogatory slur for trans people.
Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 27/01/2022 13:13

Sorry, misremembered who was who there! Yes, I expect it's the username.

ScreamingMeMe · 27/01/2022 13:17

Is it? What does troon mean?

ScreamingMeMe · 27/01/2022 13:18

(If you're able to explain without breaking any rules, if not don't worry about it.)

barleybadminton · 27/01/2022 13:25

@ScreamingMeMe

Is it? What does troon mean?
It's an abusive and misogynist term which usually means a trans woman, often referring to a trans woman who doesn't pass or sometimes a women born biologically female who is presumed to look like a trans woman because she has masculine features. Was popularised on forums like 4chan and kiwi farms.
ScreamingMeMe · 27/01/2022 13:29

Ah right. How charming. I think I've seen it before but didn't know what it was, and thankfully haven't used it. Thanks barley.

vbhafjlb · 27/01/2022 13:29

Troon is not derogatory. It originated on the somethingawful forums years ago. The forum users refer to themselves as goons and a trans poster mashed it up with trans to refer to their self as a troon (TRans gOON).

ScreamingMeMe · 27/01/2022 13:46

That sounds like a rabbit hole I don't want to go down 😆 I think I'll just err on the side of not using it. I don't think it's a word that's used on here anyway, is it?

dolorsit · 27/01/2022 13:49

It may have started out as not derogatory but I've only seen it used as derogatory.

I'd think that even on the outside chance that the lady is prosecuted, she'd be unable to have a fair trial due to the continued inferrals by the police that she's done something that hasn't been proven, and the fact that they say that they can't comment due to it currently being under investigation, but then commenting anyway.
It's awful for the people involved, but it is opening the eyes of many people who wouldn't otherwise pick up on the way that women are silenced and threatened.

Terfydactyl · 27/01/2022 14:32

@WeBuiltCisCityOnSexistRoles

Cross posting, a Moonpig card is an amazing idea Grin Or a physical card, we could seal the envelope with a sticker if we just happened to have any to hand....you know, just on the off chance...
Or a postcard? Doesn't have to cost much, plain card, some pretty purple and green and white stickers or similar and a stamp. We got an address for the sending of cards?
RepentMotherfucker · 27/01/2022 14:34

I've never seen it used here and am pretty sure it would earn an immediate deletion.

It's not misogynistic though. Transphobic I'm sure but misogyny is a different thing.

PurgatoryOfPotholes · 27/01/2022 14:39

I've never seen it used on MN at all. Which is odd, because I keep seeing MN being fingered as the source of all transphobia in Britain/the English speaking world.

ScreamingMeMe · 27/01/2022 14:55

That's a good point.
WarriorN · 27/01/2022 14:57

So it's deliberate harassment intended to intimidate by the police.

ScreamingMeMe · 27/01/2022 14:59

Or maybe they're just really, really incompetent.

Or it could be both.
