Jennifer Swayne has been arrested on charges of vandalism, ‘hate crimes’ and public order offences. Police searched her house and removed several sheets of stickers.

Have the police done anything about the person boasting on twitter about a stickering up the area with their own stickers - the anti-women one with cartoon guns? They have even posted their photo.

ArabellaScott · 26/01/2022 07:57

[quote PurgatoryOfPotholes]Well, well, well.

Here we have a man from Gwent, on twitter, who finds the posters he has seen around offensive to men. He is very clear about that.

Daft, but I'm almost nostalgic for being called a man hating feminazi.

Former Mumsnetter BettyDuMonde even popped into the station in Manchester during the course of the 2018 thread I linked to ask BTP about it and this was the not very surprising result, which they confirmed in a statement some time later:

Re Spraying stickers - there is a spray adhesive that I have seen used over the top of them to make them a bit more durable.

Bit pointless if you are putting used needles and whatever underneath them then though - as it's designed to stop them being picked off, and surely if you want to injure people, you want the stickers to be easy to pick off 🤔

ScreamingMeMe · 26/01/2022 09:22

Honestly GC people on twitter and Mumsnet seem better at detective work than the police.

Freeformation · 26/01/2022 09:37

Look at this beauty, journalist don't investigate and report. Just cut and paste police statements

That's an interesting profile picture for a serious reporter

BeyondShrinks · 26/01/2022 09:43

She's the reporter for Caerphilly, I wonder why she covered this 🤔

tellmewhentheLangshiplandscoz · 26/01/2022 09:43

@barleybadminton

I am outraged by everyone who gets treated like that. I have been involved in social justice for several marginalised groups through my career, and personally, for decades.

Good, but that has not been the response to this by most people has it. I don't think I've seen anyone gender critical saying it is an outrage that the police routinely treat people like this, it's been all it only happened because she's a woman, or it only happened because she's gender critical as if her poor treatment is some unique outrage based solely on her politics. It's not, as you seem agree, and claiming it is undermines the way the police treat other groups.

Just so I can get this straight in my silly old brain .... you say we shouldn't discuss a specific case of a specific individual unless we are also decrying similar treatment within those posts of other marginalised groups? So everyone all the time or no one?

And how on earth can you evidence this claim unless you have a way of monitoring every contribution by every GC poster (again, interested how you can be sure who they all are) ever?

But I'd also like to remind everyone that this all came about because Of. A. Sticker.

tellmewhentheLangshiplandscoz · 26/01/2022 09:51

@Waitwhat23

Fairly certain the person working in the ice cream shop will be thinking less 'oh no! I'm a terrible person for accidently using the wrong pronoun!' and more 'well, that person's an arsehole'.
As will every other person who overheard the exchange. Acting like a privileged, self absorbed twat whilst giving a probably not well paid, hardworking waitress shit for JUST USING THE WRONG FUCKING PRONOUN while doing her job is not a good look.

I'm getting very tired of individuals like this expecting the world to revolve around their bloody gender.

tellmewhentheLangshiplandscoz · 26/01/2022 09:55

@PurgatoryOfPotholes

Here's that man.
Bloody Nora.

It must be very distressing when the only threat you face from the opposite sex - who not all but too many of your own sex regularly assault, abuse, rape and murder - is stickers which you can read once and move on and that contain reminders of the many unpunished and unreported crimes many of your sex class commit against women. That must be brutal and highly triggering for the poor men.

ArabellaScott · 26/01/2022 09:58

FFS. You want me to list all the other things I think are worthy of outrage, on every thread where we discuss an injustice to women? Yes? Where should I start? Do tell.

tellmewhentheLangshiplandscoz · 26/01/2022 09:58

Sod it, I've only been in MN for 10 mins and I already need to get some air ...off out with my stickers and will take my lovely suffragette colours mask to pop into the shop and treat myself to a Wispa.

ArabellaScott · 26/01/2022 10:07

We could write some kind of catechism so women can be sure they're being inclusive when discussing police brutality against a woman. Just in case we weren't being kind enough.

Something like this?

'it's not just women who are raped and sexually assaulted'
'it's not just women who are sexually harassed'
'it's not just women who are the subject of voyeuristic transgressions by male midwives, sexist harassment from police officers, abduction and murder, domestic violence, sexist treatment from HCPs and trafficking and the disregard of birth-related injuries.'

Just off the top of my head, referencing threads currently being discussed on this board. Which is of course the feminist board, to discuss issues pertaining to women and women's rights. So mostly used by women. And fairly accustomed to men barging in to tell us how we're doing it wrong.

NitroNine · 26/01/2022 10:13

Oh no, tellme, it’s MUCH worse than that - just THINK of all the poor men who won’t notice the stickers at all. They won’t be prepared to defend themselves from [the work of] The Dread Activist Stickerwoman! What if they unexpectedly see a bright colour out of the corner of their eye?!

And if they do see them, who knows what might happen? They might walk into a lamppost trying to read a sticker. It’s well known that ‘A Few Good Men’ “can’t handle the truth!” - & of course that women are responsible for what men do, so probably we should all be ashamed.

Exactly. As this is the GC part of Mumsnet, guess what we mostly post about here? How is that hard for some people to understand?
Ereshkigalangcleg · 26/01/2022 10:19

It isn't.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 26/01/2022 10:20

It's just yet more pointless derailing.

ScreamingMeMe · 26/01/2022 10:23

Indeed

OvaHere · 26/01/2022 10:31

@PurgatoryOfPotholes

Oh, that person.
Fucking hell. That tweet screams 'women are the servant class'.

Reminds me of rich, posh twats who toy with the 'help' for amusement if they don't bow and scrape sufficiently.

PaleGreenGhost · 26/01/2022 10:33

The reason Barley feels comfortable here is because its a female dominated group. Imagine if Barley went onto other sites used by other marginalised groups to discuss their struggle for rights. Would he feel comfortable to display the same level of diversion and whataboutery? No. Because every other marginalised group also contains men.

Anyone who doesn't understand structural oppression isn't really a supporter of rights for marginalised groups anyway. Far more likely they've just fallen in with something they've been told is "progressive".

PrawnofthePatriarchy · 26/01/2022 10:34

Reading this this morning brought to mind a song from my youth:

PaleGreenGhost · 26/01/2022 10:39

Sorry back to the thread subject. Re stickering & sharp stuff supposedly hidden behind. I obviously think any woman doing that is unlikely, just because statistics tell us women commit far less violent crime. But also, who actually removes stickers or posters they don't like? I don't think they're especially easy to remove? When I was younger and less law abiding, spray paint would've been the response of anyone I knew to something we found offensive. These days I've simply got far too much more on my plate with work and kids to even notice.
