Jennifer Swayne has been arrested on charges of vandalism, ‘hate crimes’ and public order offences. Police searched her house and removed several sheets of stickers.

Can someone explain to this working class thicko how justifying the poor treatment of white women who are "well-spoken" leads to better outcomes for those groups who are most likely to be targeted for police brutality?

As far as I can see, if we justify poor treatment of those who traditionally get an easier time from the police on the grounds that black teenagers get treated like that, this will mean that things will get worse for working class black teenagers.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 25/01/2022 18:46

It's a tired, predictable, men's rights activist tactic.

Whatevah has happened to yewww wimmin, I will find something worse.

Barley knows they're not making a point. They know they're not convincing anyone.

They just like it.

Yep.

TheWeeDonkey · 25/01/2022 18:46

@Datun

At least she got out alive.

She posted a fucking sticker.

Such dingbattery is difficult to believe!

😂😂😂

Has Barley finally jumped the shark?

If you want to discuss police brutality towards young black men, start another thread.

In a different topic. Sometimes the focus needs to be on women.

barleybadminton · 25/01/2022 18:50

I suppose you might want to ask yourself, if you are - as you appear to view yourself from your posts on this thread - a person who cares about police overreach and brutality why, on this occasion, you are keen to excuse it.

I haven't excused it, I have condemned it, repeatedly. But it would be nice if what those who appear to have little experience of the police took from this is that the way the police treat everyone is a problem. Nothing that has happened in this investigation is unusual, they treat everyone like shit and some groups far worse than others. The fact people are outraged because they took a book or kicked her out in the middle of the night - well good, perhaps extend that outrage to everyone else who gets treated this way because it is not unique to her and it is not because she is gender critical.

OldCrone · 25/01/2022 18:52

it is not because she is gender critical.

How do you know this? Do you work for Gwent police?

Goatsaregreat · 25/01/2022 18:55

Tis OK Barley - women are capable about caring about more than one thing at a time - this is just where we focus of the rights of women (evidently much to your fury).

TurquoiseBaubles · 25/01/2022 18:57

We are back to squirrels, aren't we?

Stop looking there, look over here, with a complete ignorance of the fact that women can look at more than one thing at a time.

TurquoiseBaubles · 25/01/2022 18:58

Having said that, should we really be interacting like this? I presume Barley is getting something out of it, I hate to think what. I know we are continually educating lurkers, but the thought of the satisfaction some people are getting out of some of these threads are making me feel a bit bleurgh.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 25/01/2022 18:59

some groups far worse than others.

Like disabled people of either sex, wouldn't you agree?

I am outraged by everyone who gets treated like that. I have been involved in social justice for several marginalised groups through my career, and personally, for decades.

It's you who is not outraged when it concerns a woman whose views you disagree with. I think a degree of reflection on that could only be worthwhile. This is a point where your ideals clearly conflict with that behaviour. Maybe take a day or two to consider why that is.

Datun · 25/01/2022 19:03

I haven't excused it

Yes you have. By saying look at all these other people who have it worse.

You're not supporting the police - oh God no, you'd never be able to sustain that. You're just going for the Olympic gold medal in whataboutery.

Seriously, this is the feminist board. We invented the term ! 😂

Yup. This often happens when someone determinedly misogynistic takes evident pleasure from posting anti women rhetoric. Although it allows some wonderful passionate feminist analysis, after a while it's that old analogy of playing chess with pigeons.
OldCrone · 25/01/2022 19:08

I wonder if barley would go on a thread about police brutality against young black men and start talking about police brutality against disabled older white women? Somehow I think this unlikely.

PurgatoryOfPotholes · 25/01/2022 19:10

This. I would be outraged if a disabled trans activist got this treatment for equivalent stickers.

P.S. as a woman who is so poorly-spoken that a midwife asked if I knew what "viable" meant at an antenatal appointment Grin, I don't think it bodes well for me when a woman who is well-spoken gets treated badly by the police.

Am I allowed to recognise that poor treatment of the middle-classes is not in my interest?

Course he wouldn't. He wouldn't dare. More than happy to come here and do it to women though.
barleybadminton · 25/01/2022 19:20

Good, but that has not been the response to this by most people has it. I don't think I've seen anyone gender critical saying it is an outrage that the police routinely treat people like this, it's been all it only happened because she's a woman, or it only happened because she's gender critical as if her poor treatment is some unique outrage based solely on her politics. It's not, as you seem agree, and claiming it is undermines the way the police treat other groups.

PurgatoryOfPotholes · 25/01/2022 19:30

She's been accused of committing hate crimes and is under investigation for that.

It manifestly is because she's gender-critical. Tje police force put up a notice on twitter warning people of "offensive" posters the day before they arrested her.

Unless you are suggesting the local DJ who keeps stickering near me could be arrested for hate crimes at any minute?

Datun · 25/01/2022 19:46

I don't think I've seen anyone gender critical saying it is an outrage that the police routinely treat people like this, it's been all it only happened because she's a woman,

Stupid whataboutery. Even by your standards.

She's posted some fucking stickers!

StrangeLookingParasite · 25/01/2022 19:47

claiming that white gender critical women are the group that faces specifically poor treatment by the police is offensive and plain wrong

"Define straw man"

barleybadminton · 25/01/2022 19:56

Yup. This often happens when someone determinedly misogynistic takes evident pleasure from posting anti women rhetoric.

On the contrary, I was the only person on this thread who warned her the picture she posted wasn't a very good idea given the circumstances and she quite sensibly has had it taken down. It feels like some are more interested in martyring her for the cause regardless of the impact it might have on here life rather than providing some practical advice.

Datun · 25/01/2022 20:01

It feels like some are more interested in martyring her for the cause

Er, you just said she has admitted fly posting!

justaftb · 25/01/2022 20:08

Could someone give Barley a job because he clearly has too much time on his hands.
