Today 6th December marks 32 years since 14 women were murdered in Montreal, Canada. They were shot by because they were women.

This was a most appealing crime and dreadful act of misogyny. Those poor women and their families.

I’m very sorry to report that they have chosen a male who is transgender to speak at the memorial event

Guess who they have speaking...brace yourself for the sharing of misogynistic groping this poor vulnerable person was subjected to.

Why why why have they chosen this person to speak???

MrsTerryPratchett · 06/12/2021 20:53

It's the memorial on PEI which is a tiny tiny place which seems very important because it's a province but has 150k population, so less than Bolton.

Redshoeblueshoe · 06/12/2021 20:53

FFS that report

I note they intend to speak about themselves - at a commemoration for murdered women.......

ArabellaScott · 06/12/2021 21:59

RIP to all those poor women.

vivariumvivariumsvivaria · 06/12/2021 22:07

Canada is fucked.

Or rather, the Canadian women are fucked.

This is the worst example of gas lighting I have seen - and I've seen a few.

So the murderer deliberately set out to kill women (he actually let the men flee), and feminists and yet the speaker is going to talk about the number of trans people killed? When this wasn't an attack on trans people? The really annoying thing about this is that there is absolutely no way whatsoever a woman would be permitted to be the only speaker on trans day of remembrance and then change the topic of conversation entirely to be about violence against women. Women don't even get to be centred in their own memorial services.

DinosaurOnlySpaces · 06/12/2021 22:26

"For decades, trans women have been kept out of the conversation around gender-based violence."

Absolutely macabre - acting as though the really bad part about a massacre is some people feeling their opinions are sidelined.

Insensitive, disrespectful, tone deaf -there's absolutely no experience or event these people won't appropriate.

Rhannion · 06/12/2021 22:55

The comments have be closed on the article about this person and their involvement because the news source are spineless idiots.

"According to the Femicide Observatory [Canada], 92 women and girls were killed in the first six months of 2021, 14 more killings than over the same period last year and 32 more than in 2019."

How many trans women were killed during this period in Canada? I couldn't find out.

KittenKong · 06/12/2021 23:30

I was hoping that the speaks for booed off stage but I guess there was just a shocked silence. Those who green lighted this need a boot up the backside.

If this person has been in class that day - they’d be running out the door as a man when the murdered asked the men to leave.

Delphinium20 · 06/12/2021 23:54

I just saw this...how, how could they let this happen at a memorial for women who were killed because a man hated feminists? How can this speaker think it appropriate to speak at this memorial about a single time of their being groped while wearing a red dress (and what an odd detail to include)? Women have been groped so many times in our lives, we lose count, yet somehow this person's single experience is equated to a massacre of 14 women? I'm dumbfounded and disgusted.

thinkingaboutLangCleg · 07/12/2021 00:02

This is so blatantly shameless, I hope it will open a lot of people’s eyes. RIP all those murdered women, and my sympathy to those who mourn them.

334bu · 07/12/2021 00:06

he actually let the men flee

To be fair to the male students, he actually rounded them up and made them go out at gunpoint. At that point the students also thought there were other shooters and that they were actually being singled out. It was only when they were outside and the shooter shut them out, that they realised that the women were the real targets.

hoteltango · 07/12/2021 00:11

The thought processes are incomprehensible to the vast majority of people. What are those who knew those women, their relatives, the survivors, going to feel about the inclusion of this person. Don't their feelings matter? I hope there's a backlash by those who really matter, and this person ends up rightfully cancelled.

ErrolTheDragon · 07/12/2021 00:13

I'd really like this thread to be about what it should be about, not some inappropriate sideshow.

These young women were shot because they were women - and because they were clever women. They were women like my daughter.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 07/12/2021 00:24
Thanks
Ereshkigalangcleg · 07/12/2021 00:28

This is so blatantly shameless,

It's not the first time this event has been appropriated.
