Most women I know don’t what mixed changing rooms anywhere.
Most women I know don’t want self Id
Most women I know don’t want men in women’s sports
Most women I know don’t want men in women’s shelters
Most women I know don’t want a man, how ever they present themselves as CEO of Edinburgh Rape Crisis.
Most women I know don’t want men in women’s spaces anywhere.
Those women I know are aged from 19 - 85.
Women deserve and need the right to safety, dignity and privacy, and overwhelming women are saying NO it’s really that simple.
@FindTheTruth I'm a woman, and I still think that the SPECIFIC situation of mixed-gender changing rooms in a busy, staffed store doesn't present a real risk of sexual assault to anyone. Because they don't. They may make people uncomfortable and they may be unsuitable for people who are very modest for religious or personal reasons but they do not present a physical danger. I don't necessarily agree with literally everyone else in this thread that a private business needs its minimum wage staff to police the sex of the people using changing rooms when no actual danger is present (and those of you talking about cameras, well, what about the male staff who work there, should they all be fired? Because that's who would be more likely to be installing and monitoring spy cams, not male customers who just pass through).

It's really weird that you're calling me a man.
More lack of reading comprehension. Or do you not understand the difference between 'sex' and 'gender'?

Posters on this thread are in favour of 'mixed-gender' changing rooms. In other words, men (no matter how they identify) need to change in the male changing room.

Posters on this thread are against mixed-sex changing rooms. In other words, if you are an adult human male you need to change in the male changing room.

YourVagesty · 05/12/2021 14:41

It's bad enough experiencing the 24/7, every-single-day-of-your-life male gaze/judgement when simply wandering around tesco, or meeting with new clients, or crossing the road.

I absolutely wouldn't tolerate the violation of having unknown men sharing my changing space. Its a step too far for obvious reasons.

Men can't control themselves and they demonstrate this daily all across the world.

Happily, I do all of my clothes shopping online these days. But I feel so angry for everybody who still uses changing rooms.

KittenKong · 05/12/2021 14:58

Wasn’t it M&S who developed a ‘modesty’ collection (just for women of course) and sold a black headscarf for little girls in the school uniform department? How they square this with unisex changing room I just don’t get.

KittenKong · 05/12/2021 15:00

Ah yes... it’s not just hypocrisy, it’s M&S honking hypocrisy...

So when we’ve trained all the minimum wage staff to police the changing rooms by sex, what happens when my daughter’s butch lesbian girlfriend is sent to the men’s dressing room? Are you ok with that? She is regularly told to leave the women’s toilets and has been threatened by women that they will go get their male partners to drag her out of the toilet by force if she doesn’t leave. I also have a friend who is a tall woman with a large nose (and four naturally birthed children that came from her own vagina) who has been asked to leave female spaces by people who refuse to believe she is female.
I guess these women, who would both feel and actually BE safer in a well-staffed unisex changing room, don’t count. They’re just exceptions after all.

gunnersgold · 05/12/2021 15:19

That is incredibly rude @Cordyceps .. just because I work in a shop doesn't make me an idiot ! If I'm at all unsure I won't approach but obviously male species should not be in my female changing rooms ! End of !

WomanWithDiamondEarring · 05/12/2021 15:23

@Cordyceps.

I don't believe you.

Theeyeballsinthesky · 05/12/2021 15:26

I’d put my bingo card away but it seems I was premature

Deary me……

No men don’t belong in womens changing rooms. No men can’t have everything they want. The answer is no

Artichokeleaves · 05/12/2021 15:28

Oooh we got the 'butch lesbian exclusion' one!!

My card's nearly full Grin

AlfonsoTheUnrepentant · 05/12/2021 15:30
@Cordyceps.

I don't believe you.
Seconding that.

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 05/12/2021 15:30
@Cordyceps.

I don't believe you.
The stories are getting wilder.

Cordyceps · 05/12/2021 15:31

I wasn’t talking to you, @gunnersgold, It’s a general statement and question not a personal insult. I didn’t even read your previous comments but I have now, everyone is quite pleased with you so that must make you feel good.

Whatwouldscullydo · 05/12/2021 15:32

Yeah I regularly mix up butch lesbians and men....Hmm

Cordyceps · 05/12/2021 15:34

You don’t believe that butch lesbians get accused of being men in women’s toilets? Ok then. I didn’t realise I had stumbled into an alternate reality.

EndoplasmicReticulum · 05/12/2021 15:36

I was waiting for the "butch lesbian turned away from women's changing rooms" square on my card too - I think I have a full line now.

Is this the sort of thread where I'm going to get clownfish?
They're my favourite.

Waiting for Nemo.

Theeyeballsinthesky · 05/12/2021 15:42

Asparagus!!

Oooh have we had “but intersex” yet?

Cordyceps · 05/12/2021 15:43

I’m clearly not consumed by the online sex/gender wars like the lot of you are because I’m absolutely confused by these bingo card comments and this nutty idea that masculine women don’t suffer from being misgendered (Mis-sexed?). I’ve obviously stumbled into the wrong internet box because this isn’t a discussion, it’s an echo chamber and the only way you know how to respond to ideas that don’t line up with your ideology and which you can’t actually understand or refute is to shut down the conversation by calling me a liar or talking about bingo. Have fun I guess, this seems like a game for you and I made the mistake of thinking you were serious.

gogohm · 05/12/2021 15:48

Zara has cubicles, the bit in the middle is for people waiting of either sex not changing, same in every shop I can think of - 20+ years ago there was communal changing in shops but haven't seen it more recently. Lots of shops have cubicles that can be used by anyone, I don't see the issue

Cordyceps · 05/12/2021 15:57

No @gogohm you don’t understand, if you let men and women change clothes in cubicles next to one another the next thing you know the men will have installed spy cams behind every mirror and will have sexually assaulted everyone’s teenage daughter, somehow, in spite of the fact that there are approximately 36,000 people milling around every Zara changing room that has ever existed which means that it is probably the safest place to change your top in the world aside from your own home.

Artichokeleaves · 05/12/2021 16:00

Echo chamber! Yay!

House!

endlesswinter · 05/12/2021 16:01

I actually agree with @Cordyceps I have had butch friends questioned in single sex spaces.
But this doesn't mean single sex spaces aren't needed.
I also think that the questioning is more likely to increase if males are allowed into female spaces because females will have raised anxiety.

EricCartmansUnderpants · 05/12/2021 16:01

Bollocks.

YourVagesty · 05/12/2021 16:02

what happens when my daughter’s butch lesbian girlfriend is sent to the men’s dressing room? Are you ok with that?

I would bet my house that 1000 people picked at random could instantly and instinctively, recognise the difference between a man and a butch lesbian.

Because its always really fucking obvious.

EricCartmansUnderpants · 05/12/2021 16:02

in cubicles next to one another the next thing you know the men will have installed spy cams behind every mirror and will have sexually assaulted everyone’s teenage daughter

Even one camera and one teenager daughter is one too many.
