UPDATE: the police just rocked up at my door. They looked scared, weirdly. Slightly breathless scared.

The officer apologised to me, then read me my rights.

Then he told me that he was going to report "this matter" to the Prosecution service.

These police officers are tools…in more ways than one

So sorry you are going through this ceri and lauren

FindTheTruth · 03/12/2021 10:06

interesting tweet linking to this Critic War on Words article re EHCR article 10 and the police turning up

Maya Forstater
@MForstater
This ECHR ruling on Article 10 changes things.

You might say "Maya Forstater" when your employer investigates your views, but if the police come knocking say "Rita Pal"

FindTheTruth · 03/12/2021 10:09

"Rita Pal is an ex-NHS psychiatrist, activist and journalist writing mainly on medical matters"

"She then went to Strasbourg, saying that even though the actual charges had been dropped, her arrest itself had had a chilling effect on her freedom of speech. Here she succeeded."

This is good for Ceri !

CreepingDeath · 03/12/2021 10:15

This is so ridiculous, it basically amounts to harassment by the police, doing the dirty work of a spiteful arsehole.
I saw Ceri speak in Dublin a week or so ago and she was brilliant, I hope she is ok.

CreepingDeath · 03/12/2021 10:17

Grin this is brilliant, the beardy twat strikes again!

No wonder the cop was so embarrassed. The Northern Ireland police are trying to rehab their reputation after decades of corruption, bigotry and brutality. And now this squalid pantomime is foisted upon them

ScreamingMeMe · 03/12/2021 10:40

I still don't think she actually knows what she did wrong, other than being a woman with opinions.

Obviously that's witch burning territory.

No, she doesn't. It's absolutely crazy.

"Have they clarified what ‘this matter’ is?"

"Not at all. [He who should not be named] something something tweets transphobe harassment malicious communications something something mumbles electronic networks."

"They won't tell me details, but there are multiple complaints"

Yes you join to force to ‘help people and catch the bad guys’ and spend your days harassing women. (I had this ‘discussion’ with a PC the other day. DP said that he thought I was going to get arrested - I was only asking... officious little sod. Long story - but I wasn’t doing anything ‘wrong’ unlike the other people who were around at the time but they were hulking huge lads, so he went blind...) winning hearts and minds my arse... (rant over)
JellySaurus · 03/12/2021 13:10

The police are trying to “develop our Male Violence Against Women and Girls Strategy” and are “making good progress”.

Indeed they are. Their illiteracy makes it appear that they are promoting MVAW&C, and their actions clearly support this.

(Disclaimer: I’m sure they didn’t mean what they actually said, but language matters.)

RoyalCorgi · 03/12/2021 13:33

It seems likely that the Twitter thread Ceri was reported for was one relating to how paedophiles groom children. Glinner gives the full thread here:

grahamlinehan.substack.com/p/did-an-anti-paedophile-thread-bring

In one of the tweets she tagged Paisley as someone peddling an anti-safeguarding line. He asked her to delete the tweet, which she did, but then he sent another tweet saying "Thank you for removing the tweet. I reserve the right to take further action."

So, if this is true, then the police have reported a woman to the prosecutor for writing a safeguarding thread warning people about how paedophiles operate.

This is the world we are now in.

Shedmistress · 03/12/2021 13:43

Yes. And I believe women on here were pointing this out years ago (and getting banned for it).

WarriorN · 03/12/2021 17:04

Yes. Eg the great Lang cleg.

WeeBisom · 03/12/2021 17:32

Sorry if I'm being slow on the uptake, but I've read the thread and what she wrote and I literally cannot see how anything she said could be construed to be a crime. At the absolute worst, her mentioning Paisley might be defamatory (not a crime) but her taking down the tweet would go a long way to defusing things. So there really has been no indication about what her crime is supposed to be? This is really shocking.

SolasAnla · 03/12/2021 23:16

Can l gently point out the officers and their families check for car bombs in NI. Feeling "unsafe" over a tweet and investigating Ceri Black off the back of that would not be a priority.
At a guess I would say that the Police Service have not found a "charge".
However they investigated and passed it to the Prosecution service.
They would have to refer complaints to the Ombudsman, (and there would be a complaint).
Unfortunately Ceri Blacks case is unlikely to be a priority but hopefully her legal team can give her an estimate of how long that may take.
I read the article above, hopefully the Prosecutions service take note.

If you are reading this thread
Wishing you a peaceful Merry Christmas and a wonderful 2022

Thelnebriati · 03/12/2021 23:39

I don't understand the process, how can the matter be passed to the prosecution service without a charge?

Lucienandjean · 04/12/2021 00:03

Could Ceri report the Man at Bus Stop to the police for harassment? One of those hate incidents that the TRAs love so much? He's got form with the MM case, so could she argue it's a pattern of behaviour?

SolasAnla · 04/12/2021 00:31

@Thelnebriati

I don't understand the process, how can the matter be passed to the prosecution service without a charge?
I am guessing. I don't know enough about the division of roles. The Police service can bring charges themselves but sometimes the decision to bring some cases to court would be made by the Prosecution Service. E.g. is it value for money to spend X on a weaker case or is it in the public interest for the courts to give a judgement.

Plus if I make a statement of an allegation of seeing you drive down the road at speed in a car, that you alone hit a dustbin and did not stop at the stop sign. My statement is evidence of careless/dangerous driving. You dont make a statement.
So the Police have evidence, a witness willing to go to court, but not necessarily enough to convict you. A file is submitted is the usual media term.
It could be no charge, careless driving or dangerous driving.

This is 100% total speculation on my part

CeriBlack · 04/12/2021 02:30

Bloody hell.

I don't come on Mumsnet often but a very old and good friend of mine has sent me a few links to threads, and look...

Yous have made an old lesbian very happy tonight.

I know what it is to be friendless and alone. And I know what it is to be trolled for speaking the truth.

And to have a bunch of bloody brilliant mums have my back, without my knowledge?

I can't even tell you.

Bloody well good for you, you brilliant coven. Thank you.

But I'm not the thing here.

It's about how you can weaponise this whole thing to make women and children safer.

Also, if any of you are in London this month hit me up on my twitter DMs. I'm coming over. x

@CeriBlack I’m so glad you have seen this thread, you have a lot of support on here so no need to feel alone in this fight, ever.

Tanith · 04/12/2021 08:20

Am I right in thinking that Ceri set up LGB Alliance in NI? Something MatBS said on his tweet. (Gosh - that acronym works well Smile)

If so, that'll be why she was -harassed- reported. Her tweets are just an excuse.

dapsnotplimsolls · 04/12/2021 08:32

So much support for you here @CeriBlack
