I hate the Mail and I hate that I agree with it

We need to stop being like the tras and all " no debate" waiting for the right journo in the right paper, on a full moon at midnight burying a potato.

Read everything. Know everything. Or you end up as unprepared to get a point across or make a coherent argument as some of the tras do.

Mentioning the challenors was helpful. I wish it had mentioned the veritas report though. 80 pages declaring them incompetent and incapable of understanding safguarding , and formerly in a position to help SE set the policies GG were "trained" to put into place.

End of the day most of us work somewhere where we cabt even ve seen down the pub I our work uniforms and be careful what we post on face book. Gg cannot deny this individual was in breech of the social media policy even if they over look everything else.

I think the best we can hope for is a very quiet dismissal and a few " your all hompphobes/transphobes" like the nspcc and rubber fetish guy.

I emailed GG myself years ago pointing out the flaws and explaining how they are excluding girls with theor policies and they stood by theor decisions and told me they weren't going to respond to me any nore.

I have receipts.

Gg cannot claim.they didn't know

RedCarpetRebellion · 24/11/2021 07:02

@Charley50

I don't think people should withdraw their daughters from GG. But don't let up about this. It's out in the open now, GG need to address their infiltration by this ideology. It's currently non-inclusive and not fit for purpose.
It comes from the top down. There’s TRA’s at the top, policies reflect that.

Girls are not safe in GG.

If GG were a new organisation with these policies NO ONE would ever sign up their girls. We need to ignore GG history, it doesn’t matter what organisations have done previously when assessing risk now. Girls are at risk if parents send them to GG.

rabbitwoman · 24/11/2021 07:06

I am reminded of when a certain NSPCC employee was found to be into rubber fetish gear and everyone rushed to defend him, saying it was fine to have these interests outside of their profession.

Yes, of course its okay to put pictures up on twitter of him in fetish gear. It's got nothing to do with his job at a children's charity. You are all just homophobic....

..... How did that work out, again?

You are suggesting parents leave their daughter with an organisation that doesn't understand safeguarding and places them at risk?
MrsOvertonsWindow · 24/11/2021 07:30

Have the Scouts commented / taken any action? Or do they reckon this is the type of role model that boys deserve? I noticed that someone quoted this person stating that they have 4 "live" DBS checks - which implies they work with children in 4 different settings? Maybe schools?

WholeClassKeptIn · 24/11/2021 07:32

It will be seen as an "innocent" kistake of not keeping private life private/understanding issues with posting on SM. 🙄.

NitroNine · 24/11/2021 07:52

Girlguiding simply will not ever hear/accept anything that doesn’t fit with the narrative that goes alongside the decisions HQ have made [without consulting Members].

• Remove God from Promise: lose Volunteers.
• Ignore feedback on (& serious concerns about) new Programme: lose Volunteers.
• Decide to Get Ahead Of The Law: lose Members of all ages including by permanent withdrawal of the Membership of Volunteers who were “too loud” (shall we say) about their safeguarding concerns.

Apparently they also can’t see the cognitive dissonance inherent in media calls limited to a TINY proportion of Units because they want to reflect the diversity of our Membership Hmm

Girlguiding are perfectly capable of abusing their Code of Conduct to punish Volunteers for whatever reason; but this is an occasion where there have been such clear breaches the Volunteer in question should have been suspended immediately (which of course can’t be discussed - as in, by them, there’s no bar on general speculation, obviously, much as they might wish it). It would be nice if that were the reason for certain changes on the internet, but We Shall See.

People making complaints might wish to emphasise that The Internet Is Forever - the situation cannot be remedied by taking down the posts in question & undertaking to follow Girlguiding’s social media policy in future. Every Google search will be a new hit of reputational damage as that Mail article comes up (& almost certainly gets circulated).

If we hear of earthquakes in Kenya that will just be Baden-Powell spinning like a top at what’s going on.

Clymene · 24/11/2021 08:05

@MrsFionaCharming

Also, I hate to break it to those with daughters in Scouting, but the DM article about this person also showed photos of them in a Scout Leader uniform.
That's a GG leader uniform isn't it?
FindTheTruth · 24/11/2021 08:05

Hiring a BDSM gun nut is exactly the type of scenario Helen Watts, Safe Schools Alliance and Fair Play for Women have been warning GG about thanks to GG adopting gender ideology and it's inherent removal of safeguarding.

Related to who they hire, is the issue of what girls are being taught.

This from SSA
Girl Guiding and Asexuality
On the 28th October Girlguiding published posts on their social media celebrating ‘Ace Week’ in support of their ‘asexual volunteers and members’. Girlguiding specifically stated on Twitter and on Facebook that they wanted to “raise awareness and understanding of the asexual community”. The inevitable implication of this is that the organisation is encouraging leaders and volunteers to discuss asexuality with the children in order to fulfil the stated aim of ‘increasing understanding’. On the Girlguiding public Facebook page a number of leaders then shared their own sexuality.

Scraggythang · 24/11/2021 08:06

I’m sure it will be spun as an oversight. And I’m sure the individual in question will be feeling very sorry for themselves as an innocent member of the public trying to do good in their community. Everyone’s entitled to have a private life blah blah… without even considering let alone acknowledging that this is not acceptable and most parents would be horrified. And if they are they’re bigoted bloody bigots!

They’d be horrified regardless of identity.

Agree with this.

The Mail was the only paper to run with the Jess Bradley story when the NUS hoped the story would be buried.

The Sun's excellent article on gender ideology being akin to anorexia in teenage girls also broke down more doors.

I don't care where that sunlight comes from, I just want journalists to keep digging.

takingmytimeonmyride · 24/11/2021 08:11

Ugh, that pic is a scout leader uniform.

I'm a scout leader. I have a county run meeting tonight. The person running it sent an email yesterday with his pronouns in it. I bloody hope we won't be having to introduce ourselves with them. I won't be taking part in that.

Whatwouldscullydo · 24/11/2021 08:11

The thing I dont understand is the dbs checks. I mean untrained busy people found all this stuff in seconds. So either the dbs/ screening checks aren't fit for purpose in which case which of those are universal checks everyone has to perform in settings with children etc? If they are the sake standard then no where is safe surely? We need more enhanced screening.

Or GG is lying and they don't check. In which case how may others working for them are currently unchecked and is that even lawful?

DBS just checks you haven't got a criminal record as far as I'm aware. I don't think they go looking through everyone social media. Obviously whoever appoints them could do that. Makes you wonder how many leaders are friends/following this person on SM and haven't reported any worries (don't care or fear of being branded a bigot?)

Depressingly true when I look at what happened with the male NSPCC employee who filmed himself wanking in the work toilets, clad in leather. This was still downplayed by the charity at the time, who were still tweeting about males having the right to use women's spaces etc.

I'm namechecking organisations in my posts today, because the Girl Guides is another serial offender like the NSPCC, supposed to safeguard and protect children, yet they are captured by gender ideology, putting girls at risk and enabling fetish behaviour. I could name another, headed up by a similar individual. The group (not Stonewall) work with my child's school.

lifeturnsonadime · 24/11/2021 08:22

The whole thing is disgusting.

The crux of the issue is that an organisation set up for the benefit of girls and women no longer centres girls and women.

The appointment of this male and fact that discussions about barrier contraception even have to be entertained show that they put the sexual rights of males above the whole ethos of providing a single sex space for girls and women.

It is the logical conclusion of TWAW playing out in front of our very eyes.

So sad for all of the girls and women who have benefitted from the organisation.

Charley50 · 24/11/2021 08:35

@Lovelyricepudding - apologies; I shouldn't be telling anyone what to do. It's just that now this is out in mainstream media, including the top-down, male-centred policies, changed without consulting GG members. So there is a momentum now which can be used to turn this around.

SomepeopleareTERFSgetoverit · 24/11/2021 08:38

This photo in the Mail taken with a selfie stick beside a flimsy curtain - anyone else think it looks like a changing room? Looks like tags on the jacket and hangars behind.

The kind of behaviour that Never Happens…..

StevieNicksscarf · 24/11/2021 08:41

My 13yr old DD goes to GG and I'm loathed to take her out as she loves it. FWIW we live in a fairly "unwoke" part of the country and the guide leaders are lovely, quite elderly traditional women who genuinely care about the girls. I was a GG and it's been reassuring that many of the activities that they do are not dissimilar to those I did many years ago.

At the same time I am horrified and disgusted that such an individual (the photos of him make me sick to my stomach and I couldn't give a shiny shit if that offends anyone) should be allowed anywhere near children.

I think that I will write to the Head Office and express my feelings but at the moment I am not going to withdraw her.

CityMumma78 · 24/11/2021 08:56

Disgusting and totally inappropriate. Surely Themis is a safeguarding red flag! What has happened to the GG association?!?!?

Lovelyricepudding · 24/11/2021 09:04

DBS checks if you have a criminal record under your current identity

An enhanced DBS will also flag up if you have any non-crime hate incidents against your name. These are complaints anyone can reports about you for any reason, they are not investigated and can be made anonymously. The only criteria is the person reporting it claims they find it offensive. Examples of non-crime hate incidents reported include a tweet "huh" and people raising safeguarding concerns.

Yes that is right - people raising safeguarding concerns get a reported by nefarious individuals keen to undermine safeguarding and thus preventing them holding a position where they can unhold safeguarding.

borntobequiet · 24/11/2021 09:05

That Mail article, and similar, are well structured, comprehensive and easy to read, just what’s needed.

borntobequiet · 24/11/2021 09:06

And the pictures do a great deal of heavy lifting. Well done the editors.

I'm beginning to wonder if this is actually not about inclusion, but about destroying a female only space?
