@RepentMotherfucker I spoke to a few people who let them halls. They seemed concerned and spoke to Girlguiding locally. They did however tell me that they didn’t think it was fair or proportionate to ask to actually see the disclosures / references. They continue to let to them. I don’t know the conversation that went on, and I’m not sure I want to. I just tried to do all that I could to keep girls safe, knowing that they weren’t doing things properly. I really felt I couldn’t push things much further with the people who were letting them halls, because I think the people letting them the halls are good people but really felt they shouldn’t be taking on responsibility of checking up on them, because of all of the issues of liability, and I actually see their point.

Declarations usually ask you to declare if you have safeguarding policies in place. They have policies. They just don’t always follow them.

I’d be happy to speak to a journo if it meant parents were better informed so could make an informed decision about keeping their girls safe.

I'm really shocked about the DBS. Being in thrall to an ideology is one thing, but this just looks like bog standard negligence.

toomanytrees · 26/11/2021 00:23

I'm FB friends with a fair chunk of them, and they would never pose on FB or any other SM like that with a gun in their living room, including the Americans.

Same here in Canada. Where I live, responsible gun owners would not pose like that for photographs. This is a red flag.

LolaLouLou · 26/11/2021 04:20

On the DBS thing. I have worked in the education and charitable sector and I can tell you schools are much more stringent.

The thing is that it is really serious if a school fails the safeguarding bit of an ofsted report. Unless charities are CQC or Osted registered no external body comes in and checks.

If there is a safeguarding incident, the charity may need report it to the charity commission as a serious incident. But, I don't know if the charity commission has any real teeth. Also a few years ago, pre pandemic, there were massive delays in the charity commission responding to serious incident reports.

Youth work is a fairly unregulated sector.

The guns and bdsm are horrible - but they slipped in casually at the end that this man is in a relationship with another man who admits to sexual fantasies about children Confused

What do you have to do for people to say ‘I don’t think you should be leading children?’

Isn’t that challenor? Not the tw in question here.

If there’s evidence that Monica has also said this then please post it.

But I think we should be careful and clear about what relates to each person. Pornographic social media pictures are a huge red flag. That’s enough of a reason for someone to he refused jobs with kids.

Kanaloa · 26/11/2021 06:29

Oh yes my fault, I misread! This man in fact signed his support to the individual in a relationship with the man who wanted to have/fantasised about sexual relations with children. Still worrying to be honest.

GG Nottinghamshire have reinstated the webpage listing district commissioners and Sulley is still on it

www.girlguidingnottinghamshire.org.uk/who-we-are/meet-the-team/

Looks like they are going for the Royal Academy approach to women protesting and trying to ignore the protests.

That approach isn't going to work for them.

Artichokeleaves · 26/11/2021 21:01

Brazening it out is the worst possible thing they could do.

foxgoosefinch · 26/11/2021 21:05

Hmm. Gentle slap on the wrist and reminder about social media use and no further action I’ll bet.

My DD’s pack folded unexpectedly a few months ago when all the leaders resigned all at once without quite saying why. I’m wondering whether all this is why. I was so sorry for my DD who loved it - as I did as a child - but I can’t quite see how I can rely any more on the organisation keeping her safe. If at head office they can’t look like a responsible child-centred feminist organisation, I don’t think anyone at the grassroots or any parents can quite trust what’s going on, no matter how good the local leaders are. Sad

Oh wow, that's really messed up.Shock
KimikosNightmare · 26/11/2021 22:35

Are they completely mad?

Setting the trans aspect aside no-one with such an unhealthy interest in guns should be a guide leader.

KimikosNightmare · 26/11/2021 22:38

Agreed. I know a few people who have firearms licences for grouse/ deer etc. Absolutely none of them would pose like that. Other than when actually being used on a shoot or being cleaned they are kept locked up and out of sight.

Holding a gun in guiding uniform
Sorry I know it's my third post - but how can anyone look at that picture and think this person is suitable to be a girl guide leader?
KimikosNightmare · 26/11/2021 22:52

Sorry , me again- just shown that photograph to my husband whose comments were "Remember Dunblane" and "No child of his would be going anywhere near this person"
Kanaloa · 27/11/2021 01:50

It’s the fact that the person posts these bdsm ‘mistress will punish you’ photos out there in the world - my kids are not girl guides age (I think guides are the older ones aren’t they) but I know teens that age can easily look up people they know. Of course it’s not appropriate to do so but kids do it, it’s natural. So they look up their girl guide leader and see that?

It’s like teachers, teachers can obviously be into anything they want in their free time but they’d be pretty daft if they posted on social media dressed up in bdsm gear.

If you watch this interview on YouTube, with the same mounting unease as I did, it's at least some reassurance to see that the overwhelming majority of the comments echo all the valid concerns raised on this and other threads.

There do appear to be a couple from people who know this individual, and their mention that this person also has an enthusiasm for cosplay doesn't do anything whatsoever to make me feel any better.

IsitM · 27/11/2021 11:56

This is what the policy of feeling able to ‘bring your whole self’ to work leads to.

You should only be bringing your professional self to work, whether paid or voluntary.

MNHarpie · 27/11/2021 12:20

On plus side this should be enormously helpful to Katie Alcock’s legal case against Girl Guiding Grin

It’s on CrowdJustice search ‘Guiding’, there’s two (I think her solicitor changed firm) only one is open at the moment

Gosh. That really is difficult to watch. The gaslighting is off the scale.

Introduced themself as a wife, mother and grandmother, and then gets asked what advice they have to other women about women being stretched so thin. As if they'd know!

I wonder what the mother of their children, and the two grandmothers would say about it.

The wholesale acceptance that this individual can call themself a mother and grandmother and expects no pushback shows who is overwhelmingly in control.

It's bloody heartbreaking that it's the girl guides advocating for all this, too. Not some bloody private members club, somewhere. An actual organisation set up to help girls with confidence, self-esteem, a diverse skill set, so they can take their place as equals. Bentley, I believe who started the mixed sex provision, actually described the Girl Guides as "the ultimate feminist organisation".

It appears that the worst word feminist has also changed meaning to 'centering men at all times'.

SapphosRock · 27/11/2021 13:09

This is actually insane. Is there no safeguarding at all at Girl Guides now?! Trans status is irrelevant this individual does not seem stable enough to be in charge of young girls.

Artichokeleaves · 27/11/2021 13:10

Pictures of self with guns.
