He's come out as saying that he regrets taking the part of Lili Elbe in the Danish Girl, as he thinks it should have gone to a trans actor.

That's another issue, surely it's called 'acting' Eddie?

He has affirmed that TWAW and they 'just want to live their lives out peacefully and it's time to allow them to do so'.

So no-ones being harassed out of their jobs then Eddie? Children aren't being medicalised? Women aren't being told to shut up and be kind, and allow men into their safe and private spaces?

What makes a bloke like Eddie think he has any right to an opinion in something that does not affect him, just because he put on a dress and some lipstick for a role that he now regrets?

Rich, posh, white, Old Etonian man Eddie doesn't see a problem. I'm shocked.

LadyCampanulaTottington · 22/11/2021 11:00

It's called acting. People pretending to be people they're not.

Not that difficult is it, Eddie?

SomepeopleareTERFSgetoverit · 22/11/2021 11:01

I am no longer interested in any penis-haver’s views on this topic. my rights are not Eddie’s to give away.

MatildaIThink · 22/11/2021 11:07

Does he also feel wrong for pretending to be French in Les Misérables, or someone with magic powers in Fantastic Beasts, pretending to have been born in 1809 in The Aeronauts, or an alien in the future in Jupiter Ascending? He certainly should not have pretended to be one of the worlds geniuses in The Theory of Everything.

Well either that, or we accept that acting is acting...

Jng1 · 22/11/2021 11:11

If trans people, especially trans actors, want equality then they should audition for parts like everyone else and it should be based on merit, not some tick box quota.
Or if they insist on a quota then it should be proportionate to the incidence of trans people in the population i.e. less than 1%. On that basis we shouldn't be seeing them get roles that often... Hmm

ArabellaScott · 22/11/2021 11:12

What is the difference between Eddie and a male who identifies as trans?

This, completely this.
TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 22/11/2021 11:16

That’s so disingenuous of him.

Firstly how many trans actors are out there willing to play a part which means they have to play pre as well as post transition?
Secondly does he really think a film like that would have got made at all without a big name like his attached to the project?

He has absolutely zero integrity and is basically saying whatever he thinks he needs to to not get cancelled.

yestheyhavethesamedad · 22/11/2021 11:18

Has eddie asked how that would work ?
If a trans actor should have played the part , are they going to hire 2, a transman to play the part before transition and then a transwoman to play the part after , or does the transwoman have to detransition then retransition .
Is he also going to apologise for playing a disabled person and insist only disabled people play them, or only gay people allowed to play gay parts so no gay men can play staight men 🤔

Mummyoflittledragon · 22/11/2021 11:19

As TWAW, surely the part should have gone to any woman. Failed fucking logic again.

changenamepainagain · 22/11/2021 11:22

The article in the Metro (sorry can't link) also uses the phrase:
'Sex confirmation surger[y]' to describe the procedure that the real Lili underwent.
Sex confirmation?!

rabbitwoman · 22/11/2021 11:23

Just as an aside, the trans woman actor in The Watch playing cheery did dress as a man for one scene. Shame it was an absolute mess of one of STP's masterpieces, but I liked cheery and the actor who played her.

BUT wouldn't this also mean that trans actors would not be allowed to play non trans parts? I bet it doesn't mean that....

ChazsBrilliantAttitude · 22/11/2021 11:26

I wonder if he would support Eton admitting people on the basis of gender rather than sex.

fournonblondes · 22/11/2021 11:28

He lost me since he went against JK R.

Not to mention the way he appropriated and profited from the pain of WW1 soldiers when he did Birdsong 😔

ittakes2 · 22/11/2021 11:32

"What makes a bloke like Eddie think he has any right to an opinion in something that does not affect him..."
Do you not see the irony of posting this on an internet forum where everyone with an opinion on things which don't affect them post responses?

Shedmistress · 22/11/2021 11:33

Has he not donated his fee [minus tax] to a trans charity yet? Surely that is the only way to make reparations.

TwoLeftSocksWithHoles · 22/11/2021 11:34

I always thought they should have used real monkeys at the start of the film '2001: A Space Odyssey'
APparently they used actors dressed up to look like monkeys! What a bloom' swiz.

HoardingSamphireSaurus · 22/11/2021 11:36

Thank you! I have just stolen snippets of this for a facebook post that annoyed me! Smile

Rightsraptor · 22/11/2021 11:37

Pay him no heed he's just scoring pathetically easy brownie points.

He knows very well that there are no trans actors of enough standing to 'open' a film. It would simply not have been made without a name in the lead & title part. Plus the other problems other posters have mentioned, like trans actors having to play their natal sex.

Have you given the money you made from the film to trans charities yet, Eddie?

Ghostsintheshelf · 22/11/2021 11:39

At least we know he wasn't appropriating when he he took the part of hypocritical, sexist Angel Clare in Tess of the d'Urbervilles.

As a even further aside, it does irritate the heck out of me that the Cheery character is being held up as a trans icon. Nowhere in the books does it say or even imply that Cheery considered herelf a male dwarf and then decided or realised she was female when she moved to AM. All she did was start wearng some things that were culturally worn by human females but considered inappropriate by the dwarf community.

And I thought that the actor in The Watch series was just a man doing some...acting

TheLeadbetterLife · 22/11/2021 11:47

That film was the first step on my path to Peak Trans. I had no awareness of the issues before I saw it, but the film annoyed me because I thought it was doing transwomen a disservice. It portrayed Lili Elbe as someone who immediately knew she was a woman because she put on some silk stockings, and I thought, that's a bit silly and sexist, what do stockings have to do with being a woman?

Now here we are.

MatildaIThink · 22/11/2021 11:50

What about Planet of the Apes, surely they should have trained real monkeys and gorillas how to ride horses and use guns...
