So, the Hogwarts turncoats are getting back together, sans Rowling.

They have a brass neck, that's for sure.

Happy to ring every last penny they can out of the franchise whilst continuing to sell Rowling down the river.

Zero moral compass between them. Either they back Rowling, and thank her for the fact anyone other than their mum knows they exist, or they renounce and walk away. You dont get to have it both ways.

@Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g

I doubt it. Do they operate in Scotland? I'm in London. I've put in a product request more than once.
Ah, I though the bastards comment was significant!
Chasingaftermidnight · 17/11/2021 21:58

I don’t know Joanne Rowling. But she has always seemed to me like a thoroughly principled and incredibly generous woman. She’s given millions upon millions of pounds to a diverse range of charitable causes for a start. I find it very strange how she’s suddenly apparently a bigoted
monster.

PurgatoryOfPotholes · 17/11/2021 22:18

Pie Eh? You're saying Emma Watson says she's changed race?

I think you're confusing her with Oli London.

prudencepuffin · 17/11/2021 22:23

Hope you`re OK Arabella - its got a bit nippier where I am. Could send you a vat of hot chocolate via owl post if you like. No answers yet it seems.

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 17/11/2021 22:23

No, I just mean as a lazy person it would suit me very well to get them delivered! Probably no bad thing for what I laughingly call my waistline, though, that I can't.

ArabellaScott · 17/11/2021 22:36

Thank you, prudence. Hot choc sounds just the ticket. It's dark now, and cold, and the wind is howling like a banshee.

And still nobody has offered me an answer. Sad

On the bright side, I have eaten the mince pies.

Clymene · 17/11/2021 22:51

I don't know her but a friend does. And she is indeed a thoroughly nice woman.

Incidentally if you haven't heard the Simon Armitage chat with her in his shed, it's really worth a listen.

It was parents' evening at my kids' school today and I was very pleased to see JKR in among the inspirational quotes on the wall outside the geography classroom.

It was "Rock bottom became a solid foundation on which I rebuilt my life.”

I think it's excellent to remind children that great success can be found even when life can seem utterly hopeless

I don't get all the '' spoiled brats! '' comments.
They're now grown adults, possibly even early thirties? With minds of their own.
They're not kids, but people on here talk about them like they are.
Why should they stand by and not say anything if they hear what they perceive to be bigoted views?
People standing by and saying nothing can make you seem like you agree with them.
Should we all stand silent if someone said something we deemed racist?
No, I think we shouldn't and should be called out.
It's the same type of situation here.
Also, all this '' they'd be nothing without her! '' sits really uncomfortably.
What, they were kids who got an acting role.
Should people never speak out if they disagree, or feel like they are being attacked, or have been abused by them (for clarity for any hard of reading NOT saying JK has done that, just how far are you willing to blindly stand by the '' but they MADE you, how dare you go against them! '' view?!)

WarOnWoman · 17/11/2021 23:39

It's the first time I've heard of someone being archived. Quite sinister really.

Waitwhat23 · 17/11/2021 23:50

Poor Arabella, still waiting on that answer. Still no answer as to what those 'bigoted views' are, even with a direct link to JKR's essay for ease of use.

It's an insight as to how a lie repeated enough times will be taken as truth by those who choose not to examine what they are being told.

Arabella, some Butterbeer might be a good idea to warm you up.

KimikosNightmare · 17/11/2021 23:50

MargaritaPie
AFAIK Ms K was invited but chose not to turn up. Was it because the rest of the cast are LGBT-friendly and she doesn't want to be around them because of that?

You really are making yourself look ridiculous. You know absolutely nothing about the background.

PickAChew · 17/11/2021 23:57

Queer coded fiction, with queer coded characters 🤣🤣🤣

Delusional and probably spending far too much time in fanfic world.

Clymene · 18/11/2021 00:21

What the the bigoted views that JK Rowling has expressed @NoNotMeNoSiree? Confused

Fukuraptor · 18/11/2021 00:42

Thanks Clymene, that was a lovely listen. I am a huge fan of the books and Jo herself.
NoNotMeNoSiree · 18/11/2021 00:51

What about the rest of what I said?
Or do you have no comment on that?
Just '' show me what she said?''
No.
You've presumably read it too.
Cop out and smacks of '' do I deem it bigoted enough? No, well it's not then. '' Hmm
Exact same shit with some of these comments and parallels with racist behaviour.
You're entitled to your opinions.
Just like others are entitled to theirs.

NoNotMeNoSiree · 18/11/2021 00:55

For what it's worth I love the Harry Potter series and have all the books.
Went to the cinema to see them all when they first came out (first one was 2001 I think?!) would have been in my early twenties.
My kids love them too.
Can still watch and read them and enjoy them but doesn't mean I have to agree with her views as a person.

DdraigGoch · 18/11/2021 01:03

@ChloeCrocodile

I was just thinking that they could do a remake of the Harry Potter series in film

I'd actually like to see it as a TV series. I love the books and the films missed out / changed way too much for my liking. The shocking acting of the children involved is also a problem (for me) and so I just don't enjoy the films at all. A proper TV series (spanning maybe 7 years) would allow the richness and detail to come through better IMO. Probably not worth it for the studios tho - the cost would be astronomical and TV shows don't make as much money.

Netflix did A Series of Unfortunate Events as a TV series and it was very good compared with the awful film which came out in the mid-2000s (though Carrey looked more like Olaf should than Harris). The likes of Netflix and Disney are prepared to expend huge amounts on TV series.
DdraigGoch · 18/11/2021 01:07

@ChloeCrocodile

I liked Maggie Smith as McGonagal, but felt Oldman and Rickman were too old. I always imagined Black, Lupin and Snape to be mid 30s in the Prisoner of Azkaban. We didn't see nearly enough of the Weasley siblings in the films and the marauder's map is one of my favourite details in the books.

Basically, I think that they should make a TV series that I get to do casting for and include all of my favourite bits with none of the stuff I don't like!

How dare they drop Peeves. Especially given they'd lined up Rick Mayall.
NoNotMeNoSiree · 18/11/2021 01:10

Would have loved to have seen Peeves in the films.
Rik May would have been perfect, shame he and the part got dropped

Bigoted enough?

I (and everyone else on this thread) have read Rowling's essay. We don't see any bigotry or hate. We are asking those who do see bigotry and hate in what she said to please show us where they see it. If we don't see it and you do then you need to help us out here.

Perhaps if you show us and explain, we'll understand. No one is responding to this requests and I'm genuinely interested!

@NoNotMeNoSiree can you please explain where in the essay Rowling is espousing bigotry or hate towards trans people?

Vanishun · 18/11/2021 06:50

The "hatred" is unfathomable to most of us here but it's obvious to others: it is saying that "transwomen are not women".

This concept is genuinely horrifying to some people now because they see it and think it means "...and therefore transwomen should be hated, abused and murdered and locked out of society".

Whereas we see it and think "transwomen need their own protective and supportive spaces in the world, but so do women who need sex-based rights to protect them too, and can't we have a modicum of common sense about stuff like prisons and refuges and sports please?"

Where's the bigotry in what she said? I've read it and agree with her. JK should be in the anniversary special, without question. They wouldn't be famous if it wasn't for her.
