So, the Hogwarts turncoats are getting back together, sans Rowling.

They have a brass neck, that's for sure.

Happy to ring every last penny they can out of the franchise whilst continuing to sell Rowling down the river.

Zero moral compass between them. Either they back Rowling, and thank her for the fact anyone other than their mum knows they exist, or they renounce and walk away. You dont get to have it both ways.

Sources also stressed that the TV event, which premieres on New Year’s Day, focuses on the creation of the 2001 film, Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone, rather than the novel on which it is based.

They will be joined by a roll call of Harry Potter’s biggest stars, including Helena Bonham Carter

Oh I must have missed her appearance in the first film... 🙄

FindTheTruth · 18/11/2021 07:08

The "hatred" is unfathomable to most of us here

We need a campaign to complain about disinformation in main stream media that's fuelling the hatred towards JKR

Bad Faith articles that DON'T link to what JKR actually said and ONLY repeat what critics have said.

For instance, yesterdays Forbes article shows TRA screenshots, TRA quotes and links to TRA content on 'The Cut' "J.K. Rowling Triples Down on Transphobia - The Cut". The North American press seems to be the worst.

Clymene · 18/11/2021 07:24

@NoNotMeNoSiree

What about the rest of what I said? Or do you have no comment on that? Just '' show me what she said?'' No. You've presumably read it too. Cop out and smacks of '' do I deem it bigoted enough? No, well it's not then. '' Hmm Exact same shit with some of these comments and parallels with racist behaviour. You're entitled to your opinions. Just like others are entitled to theirs.
So that's a no, then. You can't show what bigoted things she said because she didn't say any.

God this is pathetic

Tavelo · 18/11/2021 07:42

It's completely mental to be deemed a bigot for saying that sex is real and people can't change it.

Sprogonthetyne · 18/11/2021 07:47

Did anyone take arabella a blanket out?

MrsWooster · 18/11/2021 07:52

Alright, I’ll bite:
“I don't get all the ''spoiled brats! '' comments. They're now grown adults, possibly even early thirties? With minds of their own. They're not kids, but people on here talk about them like they are. Why should they stand by and not say anything if they hear what they perceive to be bigoted views?”
They are fully entitled to their views on JKR. They are not entitled to watch these views encourage multiple rape and death threats to JKR, without ANY condemnation and then creep back a year later and pocket £100,000s of money courtesy of her work

Whinge · 18/11/2021 07:52

@Sprogonthetyne

Did anyone take arabella a blanket out?
I think someone gave her an invisibility cloak by mistake, as no one appears to have answered her question. 🤣
BloodinGutters · 18/11/2021 07:59
What JKR said
www.jkrowling.com/opinions/j-k-rowling-writes-about-her-reasons-for-speaking-out-on-sex-and-gender-issues/
This is exceptionally kind and well written.

It’s her views, so she’s entitled to them, but she’s wrong.

‘The majority or trans identified people pose zero risk’

Those who are male pose the same risk all males pose.

While many men are not a risk I don’t think it’s at all representative to say ‘the vast majority’ of them pose zero risk.

Not that I’m expecting jkr to need to correct that or anything, but I think clarity matters and that isn’t factual.

ChloeCrocodile · 18/11/2021 08:27

Why should they stand by and not say anything if they hear what they perceive to be bigoted views?

I completely agree that if you hear something bigoted you should step in. But the scenario they were faced with was a publicly available essay which actually didn't contain anything bigoted at all. So either
a) the three actors haven't read it
b) they read it and thought it was transphobic (idiots)
c) they read it and didn't think it was transphobic but jumped on the TWAW bandwagon to further their careers

If it was b, they are all continuing to cash in on (and make money for) a person they deem bigoted, which is hypocritical. If it was a, they have thrown JKR to the wolves without giving her a fair hearing, which is just plain wrong. If it was c, they had thrown her to the wolves purely for personal gain. Whichever way you slice it they are dickheads.

prudencepuffin · 18/11/2021 08:55

I sound like an old fart but we do seem to be creating a society where a lot of people dont have the attention span to read anything but can manage social media and often parrot what they hear or see. And yes, I do know there are thoughtful young people out there who read, think and discuss, so this isnt specifically aimed at the young. I also think lockdown glued a lot of people to their computers which may not have been a good thing. I keep seeing advice to parents on here with children who are caught up in genderism, to try and limit their social media consumption, but I think thats really hard now that many people spend so much of their lives online. That genii seems to be out of the box now.

RufustheBadgeringReindeer · 18/11/2021 09:07

So that's a no, then. You can't show what bigoted things she said because she didn't say any.

God this is pathetic

What we should be hearing is …this is the bit i found bigoted and this is why

Then others can look and agree or disagree and why

Instead we get ‘its bigoted…all of it, and if you can’t see it you are bigoted too and no I’m not going to show you the bit i think is bigoted because reasons’

ArabellaScott · 18/11/2021 09:39

@NoNotMeNoSiree

For what it's worth I love the Harry Potter series and have all the books. Went to the cinema to see them all when they first came out (first one was 2001 I think?!) would have been in my early twenties. My kids love them too. Can still watch and read them and enjoy them but doesn't mean I have to agree with her views as a person.
Yay! You are going to tell me what she said that was wrong, yes?

I am SO excited! Thank you! Smile

ArabellaScott · 18/11/2021 09:40

@Sprogonthetyne

Did anyone take arabella a blanket out?
I had drifted off! But thank you for thinking of me. Wide awake now, with coffee, awaiting NoSir's kind offer to share JKR's quotes. Smile
Ereshkigalangcleg · 18/11/2021 09:52

So that's a no, then. You can't show what bigoted things she said because she didn't say any.

It's amazing that no one can ever seem to be able to personally articulate their reasons for these statements.

The best you get is an hour and a half long YouTube gish gallop video that they know you aren't going to watch.

aSofaNearYou · 18/11/2021 10:25

I highly doubt it was the trio of actors themselves who made the decision not to include her, it will have been higher ups.

I also highly doubt they actually believed their criticisms of her, or if they did, had the strength of conviction to actually write her off as their friend and mentor of sorts. It's a scary time to be under 30 and on the firing line for your views on trans ideology, sadly, they essentially had to be seen to condemn what she said, or wave goodbye to their fanbase and likelihood of getting cast in things. They may have lacked integrity, sure, but I blame the TRAs for the culture they have created, more than I blame individual celebrities for taking the cowardly route rather than standing up to it.

I'll be reserving judgment and intrigued to see how they handle it. A bit of time has past, some of the dust has settled. They might mention JKR more than the announcement did, certainly I would be surprised if any older actors interviewed didn't because you know they all think it's nonsense.

ArabellaScott · 18/11/2021 10:31

Are you not coming back, NoNotMe?

Disappointing.

ChloeCrocodile · 18/11/2021 11:16

they essentially had to be seen to condemn what she said, or wave goodbye to their fanbase and likelihood of getting cast in things.

If this is what they did (condemn what she said despite not believing it to be bigoted) then they were acting entirely out of self interest and, as I said earlier, threw JKR to the wolves for yet more money and fame. Let's be honest, they weren't selling out their principles in order to put food on the table - which is far more understandable. To speak out against a women who you believe has done nothing wrong, a woman to whom you owe everything, without even condemning the rape and death threats she received is nothing short of abhorrent.

3timeslucky · 18/11/2021 12:00

They did not have to say anything but they chose to condemn her.

The reason it is scary is precisely because of that type of behaviour.

They are contributors to a culture, not victims of it.

aSofaNearYou · 18/11/2021 12:33

I don't know, I see an awful lot of people attempting to have celebs cancelled purely for not responding to controversies around people they've worked with. I think they are both contributors and victims, tbh, I think that is the case for an awful lot of people in the public eye, it's a minefield with most people just trying to say what they have to to stay afloat. Very little sincerity behind any of it.
Sweetpeasaremadeforbees · 18/11/2021 12:56

Perhaps she thought I'm not spending another moment with those disloyal dickheads and I'm certainly not getting involved with any documentary that they're involved with.

I don't blame her, I'd feel exactly the same.

Does the name McCarthy still mean anything? "Are you now, or have you ever been, a reader of JK Rowling's essays?"

I don't disagree with any of that, I was more just saying that I doubt they truly believe their criticisms of her and time has moved somewhat (usually all Hollywood needs to forgive and forget) so I do have hope that this special could end up speaking more positively about her than we expect, which would ultimately be a positive thing.
PenguindreamsofDraco · 18/11/2021 15:32

There's a short but supportive article in the ES today by Melanie McDonagh saying JKR should be celebrated and the actors are turncoat little weasels (I paraphrase).

Not sure where that quote is from but all the articles I’ve seen have said the documentary is about the film franchise, not the first film.

Daniel Radcliffe, Rupert Grint and Emma Watson will join American film-maker Chris Columbus to discuss the films and explore their creation in depth.

The special will invite fans “on a magical first-person journey through one of the most beloved film franchises of all time”, HBO Max said
