On Monday there is an amendment being tabled in the House of Lords to the Police, Crime, Sentencing and Courts Bill which would stop men being held in women’s prisons.
Anyone on twitter please tweet #KeepProsonsSingleSex and #Amendment214 to show strength of feeling.

So much good faith being expressed in the genuine declarations of gender identity from violent male prisoners. Do these peers have such faith in the other declarations of these prisoners. What if they also declared they were innocent. Should we promptly release them all back into society based on such genuine declarations?

nauticant · 15/11/2021 22:40

FFS, Wolfson is saying that the Lords proposing the amendment need to be taught by MoJ officials to think about this issue correctly. What an arse.

Isthatthebestyoucando · 15/11/2021 22:43

I love this guy, he gives no shit about polite pronouns.
"only then did HE decide He was a woman"

Does anyone know if Baroness Nicholson is speaking tonight ?

ArabellaScott · 15/11/2021 22:43

Withdrawn to rewrite. That is potentially useful? And a bit of a debate, at least.

Timefortea4 · 15/11/2021 22:44

This amendment was so smart. Inviting peers to defend housing violent males in the female prison estate. This debate is now on record, and it is the start of something bigger.

Datun · 15/11/2021 22:45

Back to the drawing board, it looks like.

A third space is obviously the correct solution. I'd like to hear why that is not acceptable.

As keep prisons single sex have said, this is just stage one.

Interesting that the last gentleman who spoke said they have never discussed this before!! Strewth.

MrsJamin · 15/11/2021 22:48

It was an actual debate! Sure lots of stupid stuff was said but that can all be fact checked. Some excellent women - and men - spoke and defended some of the truly most vulnerable people in our society, women in prison.
Did anyone else sense how nervous, almost scared Chakrabarti was? Who - or what was she scared of?

Melroses · 15/11/2021 22:48

Dereliction of duty IMHO.

These people raised up in public admiration - Feet of clay when it comes down to the hard issues.

BrideofAberdeen · 15/11/2021 22:52

Just been watching on my phone in bed while DH watches the football- I know the stereotypes! - I’ve never watched before or sent a card but feel I need to send a card to the woman with the big black poppy but I didn’t catch her name. Anyone? Thanks

Rightsraptor · 15/11/2021 22:53

I also want to hear their views on separate trans units. If they find them unacceptable we'll know what's really going on. I suspect the withdrawal will prove the best move.

2319inprogress · 15/11/2021 22:54

Did anyone else sense how nervous, almost scared Chakrabarti was? she always seems like that on this topic - to me it reads as saying everything so very carefully as she just wants to scream "you bigots" in everyone's face because she can't actually logic an argument

Datun · 15/11/2021 22:54

They'll get there in the end. All the bogus propaganda will be disputed. It's a journey, just like the one we've all had on here, like the one on Twitter and mainstream media.

It only ever goes one way. They are just at the first station.

Datun · 15/11/2021 22:55

Also interesting how that last chap mentioned the number of baronesses who are too scared to speak.

I hope to God that gets reported in the papers.

That's so shameful, it's difficult to believe.

Melroses · 15/11/2021 22:55

I really hope so x

yourhairiswinterfire · 15/11/2021 22:57

Some of them were just so daft and (probably deliberately) missing the point.

''You're stereotyping ALL TW as being rapists''. ''You're saying all TW are a danger to children.'' Hmm

No, this is about those that have been convicted of violence, that have been convicted of rape.

That's not saying all TW are dangers at all.

Some seemed to be saying we should be forcing rapists on locked up women because most TW are nice, ''born in the wrong body'' types Confused Again, this wasn't about them, this was specifically about the ones convicted of violent offences or rape. FFS.

Rightsraptor · 15/11/2021 22:57

Was she blonde, @BrideofAberdeen, with a German accent? If so, she's Catherine, Baroness Meyer. Other women were Baroness Fox, Baroness Chakrabati, Lady Butler-Sloss (very old now, former judge and quite high up in the judiciary if memory serves), Baroness Falkner. Who else ...

Datun · 15/11/2021 23:00

@Melroses

I really hope so x
I genuinely believe that. It happens everywhere.

And as they said, that's the first time they've spoken about it. And as we've just seen, they've got absolutely fuck all. Zero.

There is no argument, other than Be Kind.

BrideofAberdeen · 15/11/2021 23:01

Thank you, it was Baroness Meyer! I could have listened to her for a lot longer.

Many thanks.

That's what I mean. It's the exact same argument that has been used on here, on Twitter, everywhere - omg you think all transwomen are rapists.

Bogus stats, oppression Olympics, it's all been done and it's easily refutable.

None of it will wash in the end.

MrsJamin · 15/11/2021 23:02

"Be kind to the rapists", and "the numbers say that this is very unlikely and/ or rare". That's all they had as a response.

Datun · 15/11/2021 23:04

Exactly. I can't wait for it to be reported.

They just stood up in the House of Lords and opened all the blinds. 😎

How can a grown man stand up in the House of Lords and say he doesn't necessarily think that sex offenders and rapists would present a risk to vulnerable, incarcerated women?

It defies belief.
