Jess Phillips says no constituent has ever raised this issue with her?

Femnisaurus · 05/11/2021 09:17

So Jess says, in this live debate, this is not an issue which is ever raised by her constituents.... I find that hard to believe 🤷🏼‍♀️

Any constituents on MN?

Maybe someone is filtering her emails? This isn't an esoteric issue. Surely most people by now know a child or teenager who is immersed in this, has changed their name and wants hormones and surgery? I know of several, including one in my own family.

YetAnotherSpartacus · 05/11/2021 09:42

"people" who have been raped.
"people" who have been the victim of male violence
"Katherine what's her name?" (Stock)
Never been raised with her - never. Right.
As well as asking if this is true it does sound like a challenge for those in Birmingham Yardley!

ChantillyCat · 05/11/2021 09:43

NC for this, but a family member raised this, inviting Jess to one of the meetings at the HoC organised by a Woman's Place.
I still have a copy of the email response.

ChantillyCat · 05/11/2021 09:45

In October 2018 she said she was unable to attend the meeting, writing:

'I hope you will be pleased to hear that I have already had a parliamentary meeting with Womans Place and aware of their concerns surrounding the issue of self-identification and the impact it could have on women and girls.

I will continue to monitor this issue and will continue to ensure that the safety of woman is never jeopardised.

Please just let me know if there is anything else I can do to help'

Redshoeblueshoe · 05/11/2021 09:47

How can she not know who Kathleen Stock is ? I'm certain she will have received a copy of her book.

SirVixofVixHall · 05/11/2021 09:48

So she is lying. I thought she was better than that. How disappointing.

ChantillyCat · 05/11/2021 09:52

In their original email to Jess, the close family member and constituent pointed out their concerns over the Labour Party and women, and Stonewall in schools. They said they were extremely concerned as a woman around what was happening with self ID.

Skysblue · 05/11/2021 09:52

Something I’ve been pondering is this.

MPs are only allowed to respond to their own constituents. For this reason, if your write to an MP, you are supposed to put your name and address in the letter, so they can check that you are their constituent.

But, it is not safe for anyone - but especially for a woman - to raise concerns about trans ideology. Women who do so are targeted with hate campaigns from aggressive nutters who bombsrd them with pornography, threaten sexual violence and try to get them fired. This has now happened to many women.

I am scared to put my name to a letter about protecting women’s rights when I don’t know where it will end up. MPs have previously quoted their constituents by full name.

But if I don’t put my name to a letter, the MP is supposed to ignore it. They are told to ignore anonymous letters.

What to do, what to do…

Ratherly · 05/11/2021 09:52

I kind of feel a bit sorry for Jess Phillips. We knows she's lying, we know she knows what a woman is.

I know she gets harsh treatment because she's such a hypocrite but equally we all now know how much Kathleen stock has suffered for speaking up so I wouldn't blame any woman for prioritising their own safety.

I have every hope Jess & her ilk will eventually come round Smile

ChristinaXYZ · 05/11/2021 09:53

She makes such a show of not knowing Stock's name. Offering herself immediately up for correction and dwelling on it. Then to claim not a single person from Yardley has raised it - worth a separate thread that theory. She really does come across as both disingenuous and gutless.

NoThankYouSaurus · 05/11/2021 09:54

Probably "never been raised" because those who might want to talk about it know they will get a hostile reception, gaslighting and possible doxing by zealot activists.

What is this, "I've never heard it, so it doesn't exist" attitude from Labour MPs. First Lammy, now her. Lammy was caught out lying. I hope anyone who has evidence that Jess Philips is being untruthful feels brave enough to show the receipts.

Oh, and forgetting someone's name, in a situation where that name is literally all over the media, is a deliberate tactic of belittling. Mean Girls 101.

ChantillyCat · 05/11/2021 09:55

I can't believe I have the email from Jess in front of me now. This was raised 2 years ago.

Helleofabore · 05/11/2021 09:56

Maybe she was specifically meaning ‘not raised on the doorstep during the election campaign for 2017’.

Because she would have surely received letters from constituents. Even my LD MP would be lying if they said they had never had that raised. I told their campaigner at the door and have written letters.

There will be numerous people writing to her as she is know to be a campaigner for women’s rights. It seems like a lie.

I wish I was surprised that Phillips had lied but I'm not. There are people on twitter as well saying they've contacted her.
PronounssheRa · 05/11/2021 09:59

She didn't even know Kathleen's name

I kind of feel a bit sorry for Jess Phillips. We knows she's lying, we know she knows what a woman is.

I don't, it's nauseating that she uses work around domestic violence as a sheild to protect herself when her hypocrisy is called out.

Yeah. Sorry, but this was just ignorant.

Can you tweet her it? Call her out on her lies?
OperationDessertStorm · 05/11/2021 10:01

She’s such a liar. She could at least say it was nowhere near the top of the list of things brought up or something.

Langsdestiny · 05/11/2021 10:02

I dont think it was ignorant. I think it was deliberate. Or at the very least her sub conscious saying I dont give a shit about this.

ChantillyCat · 05/11/2021 10:04

The email contained a letter from the close family member, posted and emailed to ensure it reached Jess.

The relative obviouslys lives in Yardley, so their address was given, hence the response from Jess.

This part of the letter attached to my relative's email summed up some of the concerns:
' We are in our 70s and 80s and have considered the implications of self-ID regarding care and hospital treatment. We believe in single sex hospital wards and the right to female carers for women, especially when delivering intimate care.We also have daughters and grand-daughters and have serious concerns for their future wellbeing, should self ID be introduced.'

I’ve put my full name & address on every email to my Tory mp. I’ve never had a reply other than the automated office reply on gc emails. Never had any harassment either.

Not doubting it happens, but if it does then use the complaints policy to address it/report to police/go to papers etc.

I know lots of women are scared about raising this but surely children’s safeguarding has to come before that.

elgie · 05/11/2021 10:08

I’m a constituent and emailed her about my concerns. I’ll have to check exact date, but it was in the run up to the 2019 GE. I got a short response saying Jess would get back to me, but she never did. I voted for her anyway, because she’s worked hard to help several people I know. However, if she is really denying hearing from me then I won’t lend her my vote again. I can believe that she gets so many emails that she could not be able to say for sure whether she’s been contacted about any issue or in what volume, but to deny it outright is either bonkers or gaslighting.

I also asked “Can you tell me what the Labour Party thinks is the definition of a woman?” to two volunteers. One knocked on my doorstep, the other was canvassing in the street.

If someone from Jess’ office would like to PM me, I’m happy to supply an anonymised email address; they can then email me from an official account so I can confirm they are who they say they are. In turn, I will then give them my name and address to aid them in corroborating that Jess indeed has constituents for whom this is a high priority.

I’ve got a few friends locally who share my concerns, and I will encourage them to write to her, as well as doing so myself (again).

IvyTwines2 · 05/11/2021 10:08

I am also utterly fucked off by the way some people unthinkingly call this a 'progressive' issue. What's progressive about pushing children back into the sort of rigid sexist stereotypes my mother's generation fought to burst out of, and telling children who don't fit the behavioural template laid out by the pink and blue toyshop aisles, 'reality tv' and porn, they're nature's mistakes and need surgically fixing? Turning young people at the most vulnerable, impressionable age into lifelong dependants on big pharma and the surgery industry in pursuit of a Tumblr-induced fiction? What's progressive about stripping women and children of safe spaces in so many areas of our lives, and even our own language? Jess should pause and think why it is that actual progressive, left-wing adults are leaving the party and polling booths in droves over this issue. It's not because we've all suddenly become right wing conservatives.

Politicians of all people should have a duty of care to speak up. They will have better protections than ordinary women and there’s zero excuse for them sacrificing children by not doing so.
