No surprise that she was distressed. As she said it is like some terrible anxiety nightmare. She has done amazingly well through all of this. It was wonderful to hear the fight in her voice at the end. She is a hero.

FindTheTruth · 03/11/2021 10:51

Finally Woman's hour. Raquel Rosario Sánchez and Professor Kathleen Stock allowed to say what happened to them on BBC Woman's hour.

And lesbians testimonies finally published on BBC news England after 5 years.

And firm pushback from the BBC to complainers about impartiality

Director General Tim Davie said impartiality is "sacrosanct, mission critical and we're seeing the results

StevieNicksscarf · 03/11/2021 10:51

@Oldbadger1 - must be so hard for your friends. It feels akin to some kind of resistance movement during a war. Solidarity and love to all those academics having to live and work in such a heightened state of anxiety and fear. Flowers

MTCoffeePot · 03/11/2021 10:52

I thought the statement from Sussex UCU was quite snarky - they and UCU Central don't look too good in all of this.

Yep.

So happy they are having a baby. Lovely.

JoodyBlue · 03/11/2021 11:03

The thing that really strikes me is she and the other academics who have the same courage are standing up for the right of all students to say 2+2 = 4. This is never highlighted in interview. It is always painted as one generation against another. The reality is that I suspect there is a large percentage of the student population silenced on a issue they want to question themselves. There are very few people standing for their right to think. Prof Stock is one. These women are epic! If they lose, we lose the right to think, it is very stark isn't it?

FindTheTruth · 03/11/2021 11:05

mix of support and dismissal in response to WH here

very good point. Rosario was good last week. yes more intergenerational voices are needed to dispel this myth and give courage to more young people

JoodyBlue · 03/11/2021 11:09

I think Julie Bindel makes the point that we need to stand behind or in front of the young - take the bullet I think she says. But yes, make noise in support of their right to speak and think. It goes way beyond the discussion of trans ideology. I like that she said that she supports the idea of old fashioned discussion. I wonder how many young people hear that.

Oblomov21 · 03/11/2021 11:10

This whole thing makes me so sad. What a mess.

EmbarrassingHadrosaurus · 03/11/2021 11:11

As the nation's public broadcaster, they were instrumental in helping create the vicious climate against free speech we are in. They have been caught out now and publicly shamed by the Nolan Report. This is them attempting atonement, but it's too late, the damage is done. The BBC learned absolutely nothing from Savile.

I'm yet another who thinks Ted has given a succinct summary of this mess.

Ormally · 03/11/2021 11:12

@StevieNicksscarf

She's an absolute inspiration. Exactly the sort of lecturer that I would want my DC to have when, and if, they go to university. Can't believe that this has been allowed to get to this stage. Sussex should be ashamed of their behaviour and the students are perfect examples of why some young people lack the critical thinking needed to study at university.

Am listening to statement from the university which sounds remarkably hollow. My DC would go to Sussex university over my dead body.

Agree with every word of this.
JoodyBlue · 03/11/2021 11:14

@EmbarrassingHadrosaurus I do agree. But they will have to play a part in putting it right. Damage has been done, but enough people listen to the beeb that they will have to be a vehicle of public discussion. Ultimately pressure to debate publicly via the public broadcaster will see these issues aired and the relative claims to truth revealed.

Leafstamp · 03/11/2021 11:15

Apologies if already posted, but do leave a positive comment for the BBC here - quick and easy and can be anonymous if you wish:

thanks @Leaf and done :)

GameofPhones · 03/11/2021 11:17

New information for me was that there is a network of ACADEMICS behind the persecution. Reminds me of the cultural revolutions in China, purges in Soviet Russia.

I don't disagree. It's like all those wretched CEOs who effectively say, I know I've presided over a scandal and wrecked the company. But, I'm the only one who knows what happened and in any position to fix it. Beyond that, no other CEO would take this poisoned chalice so, in fact, you need to pay me more. It's great how that works out for me.

The non-journalistic BBC staff who put no store by public duty, the role of a public broadcaster or impartiality are going to fight a rearguard action against fixing this.

Staryflight445 · 03/11/2021 11:21

What has triggered all of this towards her?
Her book? I haven’t read it, I’m assuming it’s not easy to give a quick translation of what she has said in her book?

I know she doesn’t want the term women to be redefined, which is fair enough.
But what has triggered such disgusting behaviour?

FindTheTruth · 03/11/2021 11:22

When she said "it's like some sort of medieval experience", that's what it feels like. so many parallels to dark places in history

Mollyollydolly · 03/11/2021 11:23

Thank you Woman's Hour, I've ranted and raved when you ignored this issue, you're now doing your job. Thank you. No woman should be treated like Kathleen has been treated and it needs reporting on loud and clear. It's terrible listening to what happened to her, imagine how it sounds to someone new to all this.

Start, the Mail to your rescue!

www.dailymail.co.uk/femail/article-10158517/Kathleen-Stock-endured-years-bullying-reputation-trashing-STAFF-Sussex-University.html

The article contains a sidebar with the ‘offensive’ things she is supposed to have said.

Her book is very supportive of trans people, in fact a bit too forgiving of the dogma for my liking, but she also argues that material sex is real and matters.

A lesbian Professor was bullied and threatened out of her job for this.

It's like we've gone back to the 1940s on lesbian and indeed women's rights in the workplace. That is what trans ideology has achieved.

The Mail link below is a start but this has been in play since well before the publication of the book.

There was an MN letter writing campaign in support of Stock to her VC that was probably instrumental in her promotion. That was 3 or so years ago.
