I wish she hadn't. Bullies should not be allowed to win. It just emboldens them.

Sacred castes eh?

(I've made a separate thread for the Fair Cop report, if anyone wants to discuss ot further.)

ChattyLion · 30/10/2021 10:19

Thank you for your excellent posts Charley

HoardingSamphireSaurus · 30/10/2021 10:44

I seriously doubt that most peer reviewers and panel members will have heard of this affair, nor would they think that this would influence a scientific project that they review.

That's another side step isn't it? You were wrong. Can't admit you were wrong, so now you refocus.

As with just about everything else you post you make your agenda entirely clear. We see it, everyone reading this, and many other threads, see it. You lack internal logic, sufficient information and clarity of thought.

Which is par for the course with most ideologies.

This chimes with what I've observed. Catherina, it strikes me as surprising that you seem to be an intelligent person, yet you are acting here apparently not in good faith, making arguments that I
struggle to believe you truly believe.

Do you honestly think the women on this forum are 'extremists'? On a par with balaclava wearing protestors waving smoke bombs, hanging effigies, posting photos of guns pointing at cameras, threatening death and rape? Honestly and truly?

Because in all the years I've followed these issues, I've never once see this behaviour from feminists. Yet, sadly, I've seen it over and over again from those on the side of 'transgender' ideology.

I would like to ask: How did you arrive at this point?

What thought processes led you to think that the women are the extremists? What evidence did you find to support this idea?

Genuine question.

Worldgonecrazy · 30/10/2021 12:24

I do hope that anyone who feels pressured into providing pronouns chooses ‘zhim’ and ‘zhey’. No one who asks can challenge given pronouns and it helps highlight the utter ridiculousness of the question.

I don't know how to post this as a proper link, but the harrassers now appear to be complaining that the University have made them out to be horrid meanies.

The DARVO on display!

HoardingSamphireSaurus · 30/10/2021 13:10

Protests were all peaceful and non threatening were they?

Masked men and flares vs. "I don't believe gender identity trumps biological sex"

Mmmm!

everythingthelighttouches · 30/10/2021 13:15

I am sorry to hear this. This must have been unbearable.

Flowers for Kathleen

BraveBananaBadge · 30/10/2021 13:25

Two takeaways from the i article:

  • 'we're paying for this' so they have to do what we want
  • the belief the uni has "chosen" "not to do the right thing" by not bending to them.

Sussex Police haven't said anything about the investigation have they?
Unrelated to the Instagram account, was there any other comment on the harassment Stock was subjected to?

How profoundly depressing to hear that the philosopher Kathleen Stock has effectively been hounded from her chair at Sussex University by the mob. However brilliant her career in the future – and there is no doubting that it will be – it’s hard to see her departure as anything other than a victory for the bullies and anti-intellectuals

RoyalCorgi · 30/10/2021 17:13

Great to see that from Rachel Cooke. I thought she was probably one of us - she did that very good interview with David Bell.

The Observer, of course. They seem to be a bit more clued up than the Guardian.

A glossary of Margarita-speak:
Victory = hounding a lesbian out of her job
Speak up = protests, posters and credible threats to the point that the victim was advised by police not to go on campus
Hateful views = stating scientific fact about sex

All very Newspeak, innit?

Chersfrozenface · 31/10/2021 13:26

It must be the Grauniad. The story on line is dated 30th October, which is yesterday, Saturday.
ScreamingMeMeSawUs · 31/10/2021 13:40

Goady.

Chersfrozenface · 31/10/2021 13:58

Although it does say at the end "Rachel Cooke is an Observer columnist".

And a friend tells me it's in the print version of the Observer today.

As you were, then.

Christmas101 · 31/10/2021 14:17

@MargaritaPie

I hope the students' victory at Sussex will mean students at other Universities will speak up if they have concerns regarding a professor who has hateful views.
When you look back wondering how the TA movement managed to match defeat from the jaws of victory this will be one of those pivotal, 'this is where we lost both any moral high ground we might have had and the last vestiges of goodwill in terms of general public opinion' moments.

I can't believe you can't see the damage that this is doing to your cause. It's a monumental defeat for trans activism. You think it's a victory because you wanted a professor to resign from Sussex uni and she has? That's your long game? Confused

Masked men in balaclavas waving smoke bombs at terrified lesbians. That's what you've achieved here. I cannot understand why those who have some sway over this movement don't reign it the fuck in before absolutely everything you want to achieve goes down the toilet.

Great that they're not though Grin For us I mean. And actually for Kathleen in the long term although I wouldn't wish what is happening to her right now on anyone. But her career is made.

Datun · 31/10/2021 14:23

It's long been noted, that for some people, there is no achievement desired other than goading women.

Certainly the abuse women are being subjected to is an end itself.

Fortunately it will hasten the demise of the entire ideology.

MrsMadderRose · 31/10/2021 14:31

Exactly Christmas. You have nasty violent male extremists making death threats towards women, intimidating them and causing them to need security guards or police to go to work or a conference, and you're trying to explain that they're in the right!?

It just shows how far people will go in their desperate scrabbling around not to be called a bigot (by the people who are the violent extremists, misogynists and homophobes themselves).

If you're not on board with this extreme, unscientific ideology, that doesn't make you a bigot. That's what they tell you to keep you in line because they know there's nothing a hand-wringing "be kind" lefty liberal fears more.

There are actual transphobic bigots out there who will beat people up for being trans. Have you never wondered why they don't get this treatment?

Ereshkigalangcleg · 31/10/2021 14:37

And I hope any gender critical staff avail themselves of the Forstater judgement when asking their university to take action to stop them being bullied, terrorised and harassed by students or other staff members.

I hope they get better at identifying hate.
Alektopteryx · 31/10/2021 14:57

Yes Christmas. It's the definition of a pyrrhic victory.
