She says:

I’m taking the OU to court for failing to protect me from being harassed for gender critical beliefs. We need to stop this happening to any other academics.

Brilliant woman!

Even if you can't donate can I urge people to click through the Twitter link to her gardening fund as her description of the harassment is worth reading.

Gncq · 17/10/2021 10:00

More of this sort of thing!

tigerinyourtank · 17/10/2021 10:08

Poor Jo. Diagnosed with PTSD after being bullied in this way.

StandUpStraight · 17/10/2021 10:08

Thanks for sharing. Have dug. Am so angry. Yet more digging to support people (usually women) who have had their livelihood threatened by this so-called powerless and under-represented group…

SpringCrocus · 17/10/2021 10:12

Oops, my post (from the launch!) took ages to escape from the Guildhall at FiLiA !
Sorry.
But it's going up more than £100/minute. Fabulous.

OvaHere · 17/10/2021 10:15

Have supported. Really dreadful behaviour by the OU.

WarriorN · 17/10/2021 10:16

Good stuff, good luck Jo.

Scraggythang · 17/10/2021 10:26

Donated. We need this courage. What’s happening is sinister beyond belief. I hope this sheds more light upon it so more people can see the damage that is being done.

Scraggythang · 17/10/2021 10:28

I reckon Jo will hit her target before midday at this rate! Fantastic stuff!

Shedbuilder · 17/10/2021 10:29

Wow, only a couple of hours since her appeal started and she's nearly reached £10,000 of her £15,000 target.

Women are furious about what's happening. Can't wait for Allison Bailey's case next year.

Yepnothatfeeling · 17/10/2021 10:33

Donated. What an appalling experience for Jo.

tigerinyourtank · 17/10/2021 10:34

One thing I’ve just remembered is that when I took my ex employer to tribunal for bullying all the solicitors costs were paid by my house insurance I wonder if that’s an option for jo rather than having to rely on crowdfunding.

SpringCrocus · 17/10/2021 10:34

Bloody hell, £10K!

Artichokeleaves · 17/10/2021 10:35

Bravo Jo!

yourhairiswinterfire · 17/10/2021 10:36

The way Jo has been treated is disgraceful. You can bet they wouldn't stand for a person of any other group being bullied so badly that they're diagnosed with PTSD, so why are they allowing it to happen to women?

All the best to Jo. I'll donate and share.

Imnobody4 · 17/10/2021 10:48

Women are angry and we will not let it go. Donated.

SpringCrocus · 17/10/2021 10:50

There are lots of GC academics who have stayed silenced, through fear. I bet they are all donating!

JustcameoutGC · 17/10/2021 10:53

Thankyou for doing this. I have dug and will again if you need it.

This will not be an easy road, but we really need cases like this to make it clear that our views are legitimate.

SpindelWhorl · 17/10/2021 10:59

Really? That's very interesting. I reckon a lot of female academics might want to check their home insurance policies.

Meanwhile I think Jo will hit her target today at this rate, and I sincerely hope that gives her some extra strength and comfort.

I'm ex-OU and would not go back now. Its reputation as an employer is in tatters, as is the case with a growing number of universities.

FortunesFavour · 17/10/2021 11:01

Have dug. Good luck Jo. At this rate she’ll hit the target by the end of the day. Brave and brilliant woman.

EmbarrassingHadrosaurus · 17/10/2021 11:03

The mere fact that someone who endured so much at such a young age and survived it but now has PTSD, courtesy of her senior management and colleagues…

I'm always minded towards conciliation and negotiation rather than tribunals but it's reading like Prof. Phoenix has run out of options despite the enormous separate stress that this action will create.

I applaud her courage.

AlwaysColdHands · 17/10/2021 11:04

Donated. Thrilled to see how quickly the money has amassed - this speaks volumes.
Jo, you have so many with you ❤️

I wonder what the stretch target will be and if we'll recognise the names of any of her legal team (if they're not already heavily committed elsewhere on similar actions).
FortunesFavour · 17/10/2021 11:14

She’ll need to put the stretch target on today as she is going by to bust through £15,000 in the next couple of hours. Just shows the strength of support for her. Go on Jo! I will keep donating my lady pounds earnt via my fluffy pink lady brain until our institutions damn well step up and stop facilitating this outright harassment and abuse of women. Grrrrrrrrrrrrr Angry

KeyboardWorriers · 17/10/2021 11:20

Good .
I was offered a career in academia due to my essay and exam results but even as an undergraduate was struck by the lack of openness to different opinions. Awful to see how much worse things are now. The very institutions where thinking should be openly challenged and debated.
