When asked by Nick Ferrari as to whether she agrees that only women have a cervix, she became extremely flustered and refused to say yes, saying 'the debate had become toxic', and 'pits one groups against another'. After being pressed further she said: Only women have a cervix 'is something I would not say'.

A few threads ago there was some speculation that it might be ok to vote Labour again. For me personally, struggling with the UC cut, difficulties with food prices rising, facing freezing or eating due to inflating energy prices, experiencing the cruelty of the disability benefit system, with children facing a lowering of the threshold for repayment of uni loans, sadly, it's still Conservatives who will have to get my vote.

Jean Hatchet has just been on, being magnificent! - calls now...

DysonSphere · 27/09/2021 08:16

Actually LBC have been excellent this morning really bringing the issue to the fore. Now interviewing Jean Hatchet, and she is making excellent points. 'Importance of precise language when referring to women's bodies'...'Keir Starmer says transwomen are the most marginalised in society against a backdrop where many women have been killed this year' (paraphrasing)

@FartyBrainedHippo. Crossposted. Yes she was brilliantGrin

Any woman voting Labour is voting for her own erasure. And throwing away her rights to safety, privacy and dignity in single sex spaces, fought for by previous generations of feminists. Worse, she is doing this to all other women too, including those even more vulnerable than herself.
Here in Scotland this applies to the SNP as well. Desperate to appear more trendily woke than England, Nicola “feminist to my fingertips” Sturgeon is forcing through legislation to destroy women’s rights to even complain about their erasure, on pain of being imprisoned for “hate crime”.

PronounssheRa · 27/09/2021 08:19

Labour have a script they are following on this, they are all just parroting similar phrases.

I wonder who is really pulling the strings?

WheresMyAlex · 27/09/2021 08:19

Jean Hatchet was fab, I’m so glad this is really being brought into the mainstream.
Sunlight is the best disinfectant.

BuffysBigSister · 27/09/2021 08:22

For me this was almost worse than Starmer. A woman who said she wasn't comfortable talking about women's bodies. Who hummed and hawed and babbled. Who are these clowns? They are so scared of saying the wrong thing and offending those who must never be offended that they end up sounding like idiots. I can't vote for someone, or any party, that isn't able to stand up for the truth.

MistandMud · 27/09/2021 08:23

Why don’t they look mildly surprised and say, ‘Well, women and girls, all female people do, including some transmen, if we’re being pedantic. Why?’

WindBlowAutumnDays · 27/09/2021 08:24

No voice like the little Mermaid.

Warmduscher · 27/09/2021 08:29

@MistandMud

This is what I said yesterday when Starmer was thrown by the same question. They just have to include all the females in the group of people with a cervix and frame it as if only a complete ignoramus would think any differently.

Quite how they have become confused about this I cannot fathom.

lostandfoundedges · 27/09/2021 08:30

@MistandMud. Because if TWAW and TW don’t have a cervix then the statement women have a cervix isn’t true.

EdgeOfACoin · 27/09/2021 08:32

I didn't hear this - am I right in thinking Rachel Reeves is from the Blairite arm of the Labour Party? That she's in the mould of Liz Kendall etc?

If so, she might be becoming more and more uncomfortable with Labour's policy on this. I think the Blairites are probably more attuned to the views of the electorate as a whole.

I could be wrong. I believe her sister (Ellie Reeves - less well-known) is cut from the cloth of New Labour. Too new to Parliament to have actually been part of New Labour, of course.

Having said that, my optimism is frequently dashed when it comes to Labour.

MagpiePi · 27/09/2021 08:33

That is such a shame as I heard Rachel Reeves on the Political Talk (is that the title?) and she sounded like she had some integrity.

I can't believe that all of these people are completly deluded and believe the trans woo; it sounds like they are being compelled to follow a party line.

DysonSphere · 27/09/2021 08:35

Some woman saying Cis women is the current language to use. Hmm

OP posts:
DysonSphere · 27/09/2021 08:36

Only 'Cis- women have a cervix'

OP posts:
WheresMyAlex · 27/09/2021 08:36

No no no cis gendered! And also not only cis gendered women have a cervix, trans men do too!

WheresMyAlex · 27/09/2021 08:37

One of you lovely vipers call in please!!

Westfacing · 27/09/2021 08:40

Jean Hatchett was great - she spoke simply and clearly, why is it so difficult for politicians? They need to be brave, and factual!

Talking of politicians, what have government ministers had to say recently?

PronounssheRa · 27/09/2021 08:40

I've just listened to the clip of Rachel, it's excruciating. I don't think she believes what she is being told to say.

PronounssheRa · 27/09/2021 08:43

Talking of politicians, what have government ministers had to say recently?

Sajid Javid tweeted this yesterday its been retweeted by number of Tory MPs

@PronounssheRa

Then she needs to be brave and speak out.

Easier for me to say than for her to do, of course, but I don't think being a politician is meant to be easy.

Westfacing · 27/09/2021 08:51

I've got the LBC website up but can't work out how to listen to the Reeves clip - can someone please guide me!

LolaLouLou · 27/09/2021 08:51

I like Rachel Reeves, she was good on GMB and I think she is better than some of the others.

I don't understand why she doesn't just say women and trans men has cervix. Surely that satisfies the wokesters.

VerveClique · 27/09/2021 08:52

I can't believe we are having this debate about who does and doesn't have a cervix, and what we call those people. The cervix is a body part of natal females. It can't be seen without fairly specialist equipment. I would anticipate that a great deal of the population as a whole don't even know what a cervix is - never mind what it is, and how to look after it.

What a fucking reductive argument. I bloody resent it. Women are so many things in addition to their cervixes (sp?).

Would we be having the same debate around 'only men have a prostate?'. I think not.

Here's a clue for the politicians: women = adult, human females.

This is fiddling while Rome burns.

WindBlowAutumnDays · 27/09/2021 08:52

Why not focus on who has a scrotum?
