I thought the Vagina Museum has bought into gender woo, rather than being woman centric? I’m sure I recall a thread of disappointment about it on here a while back.

thinkingaboutLangCleg · 25/09/2021 08:13

I think it’s more a badly chosen sentence used on the front page for eye-catching effect. The story inside is quite interesting and does use the normal words ‘women’ and ‘girls’.

The story, by Sophia Davis, is about an exhibition at London’s Vagina Museum, which is threatened with closure.

Oddly though, the Vagina Museum seems to be run by genderists. That would explain their choice of the female part most used by men, rather than, say, The Uterus Museum or The Women’s Amazing Bodies Museum.

A mumsnetter reported in 2018 the museum's strapline was about "celebrating vaginas & the people who have them". The organiser then announced a future event featuring Sophie LaBelle of Assigned Male. FFS. What finished it off for me was a look at their website, where they explain that they don't talk about female reproductive systems because that would be trans-exclusionary.

The vagina museum is full on TWAW

As for the lancet using it as a click bait cover then frankly in this current atmosphere they’re idiots!!!

Adding my voice and rage. Enough now! Time to stop being afraid of being GC. Any rallies for women's rights and I'm going to be there.

MoltenLasagne · 25/09/2021 08:30

@hedgehogger1

Why am I being determined by my vagina anyway. Can I not be defined by my ovaries/Fallopian tubes/ uterus/XX chromosomes. Is there a reason they've picked the bit where the cock goes?
Was just thinking the exact thing. Interesting that in the context of menstruation in particular they chose to go with vaginas rather uteruses (uterii?)
Sophoclesthefox · 25/09/2021 08:31

Complaint sent.

My endometriosis had fuck all to do with my vagina, so mentioning it this context is no more relevant than my ears would be.

Disgusting. Really offensively, stupidly dehumanising.

Enough.

Passmeamenuatthetottenham · 25/09/2021 08:33

The Vagina Museum has now closed and is asking for donations on Twitter to try and be able to open somewhere else.

Who knew that when you set up a museum that is supposed to be centred around females, but actually make it about males and slag off anyone who objects to this, people will lose interest and turn away?!

Check out the pasting The Lancet is getting for inconsistency of language here.

I liked this reply. Succinct. twitter.com/JulieBeeMontana/status/1441518776382492675?s=20

This is war.

Jaysmith71 · 25/09/2021 08:58

"The Vagina Museum has now closed....."

....it's legs?

IvyTwines2 · 25/09/2021 09:01

Yes, and back when that PR man from the Royal Academy did that tweet undermining the apology to Jess de Wahls, the [person] from the 'Vagina Museum' was the first to jump in and support him (tweet thread since vanished, I think).

Sophoclesthefox · 25/09/2021 09:10

The Vagina Museum certainly involved a lot of fannies.

Itsinthetreesitscoming · 25/09/2021 09:16

I have complained. Hope his inbox is completely overwhelmed so he can't ignore the strength of feeling.

Babdoc · 25/09/2021 09:18

I’m a retired doctor, and have emailed Richard Horton in a fury. That my own profession apparently buys into this misogynistic cult nonsense is shocking and disgraceful.
I can only hope this is down to some young woke idiot running the Twitter feed, rather than a wholesale sellout by the editorial board, but these days, sadly, anything is possible.

334bu · 25/09/2021 09:19

The Vagina Museum also had quite a few dicks amongst the fannies.

Artichokeleaves · 25/09/2021 09:21

I am absolutely done now.

Artichokeleaves · 25/09/2021 09:23

Will also be emailing my MP to inquire if the bodies with dicks in the HoC have a view on this.

Itsinthetreesitscoming · 25/09/2021 09:27

Caroline Criado Perez has tweeted about this, and The Lancet is still trending on Twitter. So angry about this - but I really hope it's a wake up moment for many people.

ChattyLion · 25/09/2021 09:28

How dare they. Absolute misogynistic bastards. They are not safe to be around women or advising on their medical care, with those attitudes.

KimThomas · 25/09/2021 09:29

Just want to point out that the editor who published this was the same editor who published Wakefield - he’s been in post all this time.

BordelDeMerde · 25/09/2021 09:30

I have also emailed the ejaculator Horton.
I actually feel a bit sick that someone could refer to my six-year-old as 'a body with a vagina'. That's just gross.

Itsinthetreesitscoming · 25/09/2021 09:35

Exactly Bordel - if we can't use the word woman, what do we call girls? Because it's downright creepy to call children as bodies with vaginas.

FreeBritnee · 25/09/2021 09:46

@NiceGerbil

Then they tweeted about black women continuing to rise up.

And the responses are all saying don't you mean black bodies with vaginas.

I don't know if the bodies part is actually worse than they vaginas part. Not even people now.

There are also questions asking what they mean elephants with vaginas or what.

Unfuckingbelievable. So with the ‘black’ descriptor we’re back to being women, for fear of being offensive one might assume. But when we are just discussing those pesky bleeding uteruses we’re all just bodies. Just laying on the slab, cold and drained of blood but still fuckable I assume.
Whatamesssss · 25/09/2021 09:51

Let's hope Horton Hears a Wooman
