Excluding trans

This is a step in the right direction at long last....

@ArabellaScott

'the most marginalised and abused' - are they, aye? Where did they get this bloody line? Is it the most overused line in the world, ever? He's said it twice in 2 minutes.
Word for word what Khan said ten minutes earlier.

It's their standard script if women are ever mentioned.

Artichokeleaves · 26/09/2021 09:59

We're going to be stuck with the Tories for a decade.

ArabellaScott · 26/09/2021 09:59

Their script is bullshit. Their script is finished. The whole country sees through it, we've had enough and this is the end of Labour. Go away, Keir, and take your half-baked, cowardly nonsense with you.

ArabellaScott · 26/09/2021 10:02

Yep, Artichoke. That's clear. So how do we move on? I see no point in even discussing Labour anymore, they're about as relevant as the LibDems. The trouble is that a weak (or absent) opposition helps nobody. The opposition becomes ever more removed from having to consider actual real-life situations and become mired in ideological impossible theoretical nonsense, the party in power knows they can do as they please with no checks and balances, voters become ever more disillusioned iwth political process ...

Fitt · 26/09/2021 10:03

I did laugh at Khans football analogy earlier about being relegated and needing to get back to the premier league.

I think you will be down there for a while!

Artichokeleaves · 26/09/2021 10:05

We're at the point politically (and have been for years) where we desperately need new political parties to emerge from the wreckage, and this time be people who are actually still in touch with reality and the electorate.

Labour and the Greens et al seem to have taken Mandelson's post democratic era megalomania to the final point of not feeling that voter engagement or democratic representation is necessary any more. Trouble is, women still have votes.

The way things are going, I wonder how long that will be permitted?

CatNamedEaster · 26/09/2021 10:06

I would have loved it if Marr had answered the"most marginalised" spiel with "more than disabled people? More than certain religious groups? More than (whispering) lesbians?

If Marr really wanted to do his job he would follow that up and ask for stats.

AllTheUsernamesAreAlreadyTaken · 26/09/2021 10:07

@CatNamedEaster

Judging by Kier Starmer on Andrew Marr right now, there is nothing to be optimistic about. Apparently people shouldn't say that only women have cervixes and he wants the GRA to "go further", "most marginalised, abused community blah blah".
They’re simultaneously the most marginalised and abused group of people while also being completely indistinguishable from females. What a feat!
boatyardblues · 26/09/2021 10:08

Labour will be setting up the Office of Permitted Things [Person's] Can Say About Women no doubt. They already have informally but he's just given his approval.

Tut tut. Surely it should read:

Labour will be setting up the Office of Permitted Things [Person's] Can Say About Women bodies with vaginas no doubt. They already have informally but he's just given his approval.

KittenKong · 26/09/2021 10:09

I suspect that they think if they say it enough people will believe it. Fat chance.

teawamutu · 26/09/2021 10:10

Fuck Starmer. Fuck Labour. Fuck them all.

That does it. Unless the Greens come through I'll be voting Tory next time.

endofagain · 26/09/2021 10:12

Very disappointed in Andrew Marr this morning. He didn't really challenge KS much at all. He was much tougher with Ed Davey. I don't think the majority of viewers would have any idea what he was talking about. Not if they weren't already aware of the issues.

Xenia · 26/09/2021 10:14

Labour will never win back the working class vote until it gives up this woke stuff.

Agree. Maybe he's given up, too. It's hard to argue with stodge.
AllTheUsernamesAreAlreadyTaken · 26/09/2021 10:17

@Xenia

Labour will never win back the working class vote until it gives up this woke stuff.
And the prominent labour advocates stop calling them thick!
ArabellaScott · 26/09/2021 10:20

But instead of listening and changing, Labour double down and call people 'scum'. Insulting people doesn't win arguments, Angela.

Rhubarbsoup · 26/09/2021 10:21

Yup.
Xenia · 26/09/2021 10:23

They think they are on some kind of superior moral high ground. Very few people in the UK want anything other than equality for all. The FT (which is pretty pro Labour these days) had an article recently about Labour - they said one issue Labour has is it is so miserable - all oh woe is mel; everything and anything is wrong. They don't delight in our people, our country, our culture. They aren't optimistic. That gets people down.

QueenPeary · 26/09/2021 10:33

”most marginalised, abused community blah blah".

It’s so simple to show this is not true with clear and recent research - I guess people who spout this are just being fed the line by TRA “advisors” who they’ve hired to tell them what to think on this issue. But why not check like you would with other “facts” (i’d hope).

It reminds me of that spoof tv thing a while ago where they told politicians about the deadly new drug “cake” sweeping the nation, and got them to make conserned statements about it Hmm

QueenPeary · 26/09/2021 10:34

Concerned!

Sophoclesthefox · 26/09/2021 10:34

from what I've been able to determine from extensive searching, nobody or at least vanishingly few of the 750ish of us in the same situation as me has ever tried to actually engage with GC spaces like this before

Going to burst your bubble here, butterfly. Others have pointed out that there have been many transwomen before you who post here.

In fact, you’re not even the only one on this thread.

Have a read back, check it out.

😊 good to know you’re not alone?

However most of the women here arrived at our positions, please do rest assured that it wasn’t from ignorance. You don’t have to wear yourself out enlightening us, that burden has been shared by many others.

Sophoclesthefox · 26/09/2021 10:39

Anyway, back to Starmer.

Woeful.

“It shouldn’t be said”.

Women’s bodies are, again, unspeakable.

Yay, progress.

Jaysmith71 · 26/09/2021 10:40

The Genius of Chris Morris and 'Brass Eye.'

One of the concerned celebs they got on board was Rolf Harris, who was very worried about 'cake.'

Helen8220 · 26/09/2021 10:41

@QueenPeary
Butterfly I really think if you could stop trying the tactic “take flawed argument - dress it up in long words and authoritative-sounding verbiage” and actually think, consider that others are as important as you, and have needs that matter even if you can’t relate to them - you would make a giant leap. And come over less male.

I have often been accused on here of lacking empathy for others, but it’s not yet been suggested that I ‘come over’ as male. Which makes me wonder if your comment is intended as a rather snide and disrespectful personal dig.

Fitt · 26/09/2021 10:41

There more amendments needed to comply with the new rule "it shouldn't be said"

The Office of Permitted Things [Person's] Can Say About Bodies With Genitals.

That could still be caught in the "shouldn't be said" rules though. Diversity and Inclusion departments will need to urgently recruit more staff to issue the It Shouldn't Be Said rules. Making sure that they don't say the things that shouldn't be said in the new shouldn't be said rules of course.
