Sorry, crosspost with Hellebore

Ereshkigalangcleg · 26/09/2021 09:02

You're using a tiny slice of the diverse opinions of a wide category of people - many of whom are not only more than happy to use their perspective, but who actively contribute to discussion on the subject - as if they are monolithic

Er, aren't you doing exactly the same when offering up anecdotes about the "nice woman on your ward"?

PurgatoryOfPotholes · 26/09/2021 09:06

I thought that too, Eresh.

Yep

Honestly the whole thread seems to be ‘do as i say, not as i do’

PurgatoryOfPotholes · 26/09/2021 09:25

So, what will it take for the Labour party to move behind providing single-sex provision to those [people] who require it in order to access society on equal terms with those [people] who don't mind mixed-sex?

Artichokeleaves · 26/09/2021 09:25

Tbh, unless you're Keir Starmer in deep cover, or another deeply influential political figure Butterfly, how exactly are 'we' going to 'fix this' anyway?

We're doing women's rights here. That's what this forum is for and about. We're the ones trying frantically to get women's voices heard too . It really isn't that we don't understand the situation, or haven't had enough sympathy inspired in us yet to surrender other women's rights nicely and stop rocking the boat.

That.

I'd like that at the top of the LPC please.

QueenPeary · 26/09/2021 09:37

If your argument for the enforcement of same-sex provision is unable to account for the existence of a not insignificant portion of the world's population who patently defy it, then it's a flawed argument

No this ^ is a flawed argument. Just because there are a number of people who don’t like a situation and want to breach the rules or “defy” the wish of women to have their own safe spaces in situations where it’s necessary, does not mean there’s something wrong with that need and provision existing. In fact the opposite. It is because predatory and aggressive males want access to women and girls that such spaces are needed.

“If your argument for the enforcement of private locked homes is unable to account for the existence of a not insignificant portion of the world's population who patently defy it, then it's a flawed argument”

“If your argument for the enforcement of policing is unable to account for the existence of a not insignificant portion of the world's population who patently defy it, then it's a flawed argument”

And so on. People defy stuff, that doesn’t make them right.

Butterfly I really think if you could stop trying the tactic “take flawed argument - dress it up in long words and authoritative-sounding verbiage” and actually think, consider that others are as important as you, and have needs that matter even if you can’t relate to them - you would make a giant leap. And come over less male.

Judging by Kier Starmer on Andrew Marr right now, there is nothing to be optimistic about. Apparently people shouldn't say that only women have cervixes and he wants the GRA to "go further", "most marginalised, abused community blah blah".

ArabellaScott · 26/09/2021 09:50

'go further' in what way? Mixed sex spaces everywhere, just say it, Starmer. That's what you're advocating.

Fitt · 26/09/2021 09:51

Starmer has just been asked on Marr if people can say only women have a cervix and he answered "it shouldn't be said"

There you have it.

Fitt · 26/09/2021 09:51

Started about 9.45am.

Fitt · 26/09/2021 09:51

What an idiot.

ArabellaScott · 26/09/2021 09:52

God, he's stodgy.

ArabellaScott · 26/09/2021 09:52

It's like listening to an undercooked pudding.

Fitt · 26/09/2021 09:53

He says "whatever the law is now it must go further".

On top of the detail there!

Artichokeleaves · 26/09/2021 09:54

There is going to come a point where people hear about the marginalisation and oppression in the endlessly obvious context of huge amounts of government funded lobbying, constant invitations to give evidence to parliamentary committees, massive influential control of most of the press, the BBC, almost all the political parties, funding and LA policy, police and judiciary and think.... hang on a minute.

While women fund themselves. Or try to, as most of the funding platforms are shall we say, not friends of women, either.

Artichokeleaves · 26/09/2021 09:55

K, thanks for the confirmation Keir. Off that fence and owning it. Bravo. Labour = end to any remaining women's rights, blind to any discrimination therein.

Women, vote accordingly.

ArabellaScott · 26/09/2021 09:55

'the most marginalised and abused' - are they, aye? Where did they get this bloody line? Is it the most overused line in the world, ever? He's said it twice in 2 minutes.

ArabellaScott · 26/09/2021 09:56

And what is it based on?! Bollocks surveys, that's what.

Fitt · 26/09/2021 09:56

Labour will be setting up the Office of Permitted Things [Person's] Can Say About Women no doubt. They already have informally but he's just given his approval.

ArabellaScott · 26/09/2021 09:57

Oh my god, Angela Raynor should not be in politics. That's abhorrent.

ArabellaScott · 26/09/2021 09:58
  • sorry, wrt her calling people 'scum' repeatedly. Unacceptable.
merrymouse · 26/09/2021 09:58

@Fitt

Starmer has just been asked on Marr if people can say only women have a cervix and he answered "it shouldn't be said"

There you have it.

Because God forbid we should talk about women’s health issues.
