India Willoughby being vile about Julia HB

BewaretheIckabog · 20/09/2021 21:54

India Willoughby used to be a trans person I tried to listen to although I thought she was always obsessed by how feminine she looked and how well she passed. She seemed to think she was not just better at being a woman than other trans people but also most women to.

Now attacking JHB on Twitter as looking more manly than her. It’s hardly the BeKind, be a good, little lady, be nice to everyone is it?

I can appreciate there would be some envy on a career / journalistic level but IW comes across as a thoroughly unpleasant person.

OP posts:

@TheCountessofFitzdotterel

Twitter is very unedifying. Full of people who can’t spell being vicious.
I think you mean viscous
2319inprogress · 20/09/2021 23:07

@ARoombaOfOnesOwn

JHB has consistently covered the debate on TalkRadio and has had Posie on as well as others, for several years now. I disagree with her on most other things but I admire her for her stance on this.
This

Plus this behaviour is standard for IW

She had Helen Joyce on earlier. Is that the cause of the tantrum?

Toseland · 20/09/2021 23:20

It’s just dawned on me that men don’t know that women have a superpower ~ We can tell who is male ~ women have an instinct honed over half a million years. Men don’t understand and assume we see the world like they do.

SpidersAreShitheads · 20/09/2021 23:21

Actually, in the spirit of fairness I should probably admit that I had no idea that JHB was outspoken on behalf of women on the subject of sex and gender.

I blocked her some time back before all of this really came under the spotlight - I think it was pre-COVID when it was all about bloody Brexit. I've not seen any of her comments for some time.

So although I don't retract any of my comments about her, if she has been fighting on the front line for women's rights and our identity, then she absolutely deserves kudos for that.

IW bullying women on Celebrity Big Brother made me wake up to this issue, especially when she was mean to the lovely Amanda Barrie.

FloralBunting · 20/09/2021 23:34

My favourite JHB momemt was her telling a wokebro that if he called her cis again she'd have him removed from the studio. That was empowering.

SpindleWhorl · 20/09/2021 23:35

Christ, that was a hard watch. Eight women being cowed into submission by 'Let This Penetrate' Willoughby.

OhWhyNot · 20/09/2021 23:38

Silly India

Talk about walking into the lions den

I don’t tend to agree with JHB politics but I am glad she is speaking out and won’t be silenced. She is far more intelligent than India and can speak from genuine experience of being a real women she really doesn’t need to respond - but I hope she does

BreadInCaptivity · 20/09/2021 23:44

@FloralBunting

My favourite JHB momemt was her telling a wokebro that if he called her cis again she'd have him removed from the studio. That was empowering.

She was magnificent.

Here you go.

I a good old fashioned lefty so her general politics hold no appeal for me, but on this topic she's been fearless and I applaud her for it.

Pink News
India Willoughby: Britain’s rampant transphobia has me worried for my life
INDIA WILLOUGHBY APRIL 24, 2018
(extract)
Transgender people are being bullied and hounded like never before – and we need to be very careful about where all this unfettered hate dressed up as “free speech” is going.

The Sunday Times, Daily Mail and – wait for it – Mumsnet – are hounding trans women in the same way Hitler went about stigmatising Jewish people.

Seriously. That’s no exaggeration.

The tabloids are no surprise, but Mumsnet?

Yeah, what is supposed to be a family-friendly parenting site has it’s claws out for the trans community (continues)

I defy anyone to visit Mumsnet right now, look up transgender, and tell me that the vicious and mocking threads about trans people would be allowed about any other demographic. It’s the stuff of pitchforks and lanterns. The same rhetoric about race, religion on sexuality would lead to prosecutions and official condemnation.

Mumsnet CEO Justine Roberts squeals that trans people highlighting the content – including threads which out trans people – to some of the site’s main advertisers is out of order. She describes it as an attack on free speech. This might be a shock to Justine, but trans people have free speech, too.

There’s even a debate about introducing a new trans Section 28, clamping down on educating the public about what transgender is.

Justine is adamant there’s nothing transphobic on Mumsnet. Only reasoned debate. She wants transgender visitors to Mumsnet to be “happy and supported.” It feels reminiscent of when Cruella de Vil opens a home for stray dogs in 101 Dalmatians. (continues)

Last week was my first ever visit to Mumsnet. Honestly, I thought it was going to be lots of stuff about prams, or family-related matters. A sort of online This Morning minus Phil and Holly. The reality is more like a Nuremberg Rally. It’s very scary." (continues)

If the world really thought TWAW then they'd expect TW to be kind and treat accordingly when they're not.

But they don't. That's the biggest ever tell.

Willoughby with Justine Roberts interviewed by Julia Hartley Brewer

'Julia Hartley-Brewer: Major row erupts while talking about transgender activists and Mumsnet'

zanahoria · 20/09/2021 23:49

Eight women being cowed into submission by 'Let This Penetrate' Willoughby.

and India kept insisting on being recognised as woman but via typically male bullying methods. Yet, even when they paid lip service to the idea, none looked like they believed it.

Datun · 21/09/2021 00:20

Many men dislike Julia Hartley Brewer for her assertive attitude. She's in total control on her programme and its a bit of a first for some.

This is JHB in, I believe, one of her first forays into self ID, making mincemeat of Lily Madigan.

I’ve encountered the finger jabbing at me from someone looming over me whilst they are insisting a point several times. It is intended to (and is) intimidating but I’ve never seen a woman do itHmm

NancyDrawed · 21/09/2021 09:28

It is IW's reaction to people saying 'no' or disagreeing or misgendering that really show everyone what sex IW is.

They seem to think that they pass extremely well and on photos, they probably can. IRL though, the mannerisms and attitude shout male entitlement

EarthSight · 21/09/2021 09:32

I've seen the clip and I'm laughing. What was he on about saying that 'cis' is the opposite of transwoman? Blame the Romans he said??

I thought that cis was some kind of dodgy term borrowed from the chemistry world.

EarthSight · 21/09/2021 09:34

Sorry - should specify that I watched this -

@MiladyBerserko

If there is going to be a battle of wits, my money's firmly on Julia.

Plus, popcorn.

Time for the hoary old insult 'I would challenge you to a battle of wits, but I see you are unarmed.' Grin
SpindleWhorl · 21/09/2021 09:39

'Cis' and 'trans' are Latin words, that don't mean what IW thinks they mean in the Roman world, chemistry or medical practice. And as for modern parlance, the terms have lost all meaning as far as I'm concerned. One's frequently used dismissively and, understandably, offence taken; and one's so nebulous that even the self-identifiers can't agree on what it 'means'.

YetAnotherSpartacus · 21/09/2021 09:44

Ugh. What utterly vile and misogynistic comments by India.

Wrongsideofhistorymyarse · 21/09/2021 09:52

I really don't like IW. IW is a misogynist and comes across as very unpleasant.

Corrag · 21/09/2021 09:59

@Theluggage15

Of course I’m now blocked by Willoughby for objecting to the comments. Loves a little echo chamber the sensitive soul.
Appears I'd already been blocked by IW, not sure what I've done to deserve that, I've never commented on any of her tweets.
