'The broadcaster Carrie Grant and her presenter husband once had three daughters. Now she is the only female'

Article in Sunday Times today. Afraid I don't have a share token. www.thetimes.co.uk/article/4f956268-1336-11ec-a8a6-db0b408d06d6?shareToken=e9d28aa2838a4d2fd0f5590b44444fe2

I know nothing about this couple but apparently they are both TV presenters. They have four children, the eldest two being young adults now. The three female children are all now identifying as other things and have changed their names. According to the comments, she has previously talked about her children having ADHD, being on the autistic spectrum, having various mental health issues - but none of that is mentioned in this article. Hmm.

This is a bit concerning. Carrie is speaking for the first time about the complexities of family life with children who question their gender before a conference this month called The Gender Agenda, at which she and her husband are appearing. At the event, organised by Oasis, the biggest schools academies trust, guidelines will be published for teachers on how to handle boys who want to be girls and vice versa.

I hope there's going to be a range of opinions.

Mermaids "aligning" with evangelical Christians?

Has mimmybirthingperson done a Twitter thread of outrage denouncing them?

FloralBunting · 12/09/2021 11:15

You're just going to have take or leave my cynicism of a general Christendom that has subjected me to gay conversion therapy and decades of misogyny and that now the welcoming, progressive end is promoting this madness. I won't apologize for it.
I personally know a number of individual Christians who I know have personal integrity, including my best friend, but I have yet to be disabused of my experience and observation of the church, particularly, but not exclusively, in its evangelical guise as an organization whose teachings are detrimental to women and LGB people.

Look at meeeeeeeeee

CloseYourEyesAndSee · 12/09/2021 11:19

@MonsignorMirth

(I've been on these boards regularly for years, I'm fully aware of what a boy/girl is, and what the TRA line is on gender, although funnily enough still unclear on what gender actually is and how it overlaps with sex (if it even does) ) because despite me constantly asking, no-one ever gives a clear answer) Grin
Oh lol sorry

Good point. Worth noting.

[quote Clymene]This doesn't surprise me at all. Carrie and David Grant have made careers out of exploiting their children. They touted them around with their multiple neurodiversities but I guess there's only so many times you can flog that story to the papers. They need a new revenue stream clearly.

I wonder how they were approved to adopt with three older children with SEN. Smacks of Madonna complex to me.

Clymene · 12/09/2021 11:30

I don't think that article was written at the start of lockdown given it's dated this year.

So earlier this year, they had 4 children - Olive, Thalia, Imogen and Nathan. 3 girls and a boy. They ran a parenting group for parents of autistic girls. And now those girls are no longer girls?

Their two eldest are adults and their parents are still talking about them publicly. I cannot imagine what it's like to grow up in that home.

SuperLoudPoppingAction · 12/09/2021 11:36

Is this publicity being arranged in order to draw attention away from the mortification of promoting the spectrum 10k study?
Were i her, I would be lying in a dark room for a few weeks after that, rather than jumping on another iffy bandwagon.

Antinerak · 12/09/2021 11:49

'boys who want to be girls' They're misgendering them AND making it seem like it's a choice. What a badly written article about a sensitive subject!

RoastChicory · 12/09/2021 11:57

Carrie was the BBC presenter who complained of sex discrimination for being paid less than a man.

Luckily her children can avoid such discrimination by identifying out of it.

Soontobe60 · 12/09/2021 12:05

@KaycePollard

they don't want to be girls, they are girls, in their internal gender, and always have been.

No.

Their physiology down to every individual cell in their bodies, are male.

That they have a body dysphoria which makes their thinking at odds with their sexed bodies is a mental health issue.

The western mind/body split has a lot to answer for.

They were born female, and are still female.
Justme56 · 12/09/2021 12:12

"I want to be a boy" - cool
"I want to be called Ian" - NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

Says it all!

FurzeMinister · 12/09/2021 12:13

“It was very funny,” says Arlo’s mother, the broadcaster Carrie Grant. “They announced to the whole house, ‘I am a boy’ and said ‘I want to be called Ian’.

“Everyone said, ‘Oh my God, not Ian!’ No one batted an eyelid at the boy thing but everyone objected to the name Ian.”

Please, let's not ignore the real issue here. This is no joke, but a deadly serious matter. Ian is clearly transscottish, and the victim of harrassment, suppression, and discrimination on this basis.

What we see here is just one of the many ways in which the folly of xenophobia, coupled with the deaf ear of the Westminster-managed press, seeks to damage Scotland's prosperity and wellbeing.

Be under no illusion: this disgusting and unprecedented bigotry against a vulnerable minority will not stand. We will take no lectures from the biased UK media (nor from Z-list pop stars who couldn't even win douze points on Eurovision) regarding liberalism and inclusivity! Shame on you!

We mustn’t let the Tories turn a positive, persuasive and invigorating discussion about the gender identity of children into arid and bitter playground bullying fuelled by narrow-minded prejudice against badly-anglicised Gaelic names. We must stay the course – even if it sometimes feels difficult.

Let me be crystal clear: TRANSSCOTS ARE SCOTS! IANS ARE IANS, AND THEY ARE VALID!!!!

FloralBunting · 12/09/2021 12:26

The Ian anecdote is meant to be a funny little note on how vair vair accepting they are.

What it actually reveals are gullible people who are happy to embrace en vogue metaphysical fads and utterly horrified by an 'uncool' name.

FrownedUpon · 12/09/2021 12:34

I have concern about what is actually going on in this household. It all seems really messed up with very unhappy children.

The amount of disorders & labels that have been attributed to their children is astonishing. It’s very sad.

EdgeOfACoin · 12/09/2021 12:35

Steve Chalke is not representative of most Christians I know. His theology is pretty controversial in places, including his view on atonement.

No, you're thinking of Carrie Gracie. Very different.

Extreme performance parenting. Scary that they're being invited to pontificate about this at an educational conference.

Whiskyinajar · 12/09/2021 12:53

Hmm! Every osteoarchaeology book I've ever read is straightforward about how to tell of the skeleton you have is male or female.
It matters not how these people identified in life.

The same is true of all the trans people today . If they are buried after death and their skeletal remains are found in 500yrs they will be identified as male or female based upon their bone structure.

That's the difference between gender identity and your actual biological identiy.

Y9u can't change sex, you can however change gender and if you want to do so then it's fine.

Don't kid yourself that you are biologically male/female/ whatever unless you were born that way though.

Badbadbunny · 12/09/2021 12:53

Isn;t Carrie the one who did a children's TV singing program with her husband, but she can't sing, and all her "signing" was supplemented by backing vocalists? How did she manage to get a job on a TV program that involved singing when she can't sing herself?

Naunet · 12/09/2021 13:01

@MonsignorMirth

boys who want to be girls

Wow, really? This is really transphobic - they don't want to be girls, they are girls, in their internal gender, and always have been.

So it should say something like "girls who want to be seen as girls".

Don’t be so silly. There is no test for “internal gender” or if someone is a girl, boy or other gender.
HDDD · 12/09/2021 13:03

I seem to recall one of those children having a severe mental health crisis in the past couple of months, all detailed on Twitter.

littlbrowndog · 12/09/2021 13:14

I don’t understand parents putting their children out into the public eye and media

What do the parents gain from it and what do the kids gain from it 🙁🤷‍♀️

FloralBunting · 12/09/2021 13:14

Chalke's theology wrt the Atonement is an outlier in Evangelical theology, yes, but it's perfectly in keeping with, say Eastern or Oriental Orthodox or liberal mainstream churches.

The Genderist woo he pushes is getting quite the platform in churches that consider themselves progressive. There's still strong resistance in the parts of the church which are more Conservative, but then many of those churches will be functionally anti-gay too.

It's a precarious thing to have a religious faith and be lesbian or a woman, particularly if you're a woman who is in anyway gender non-conforming, looks or behaviour or ambition-wise.

This article is from 8 years ago and gives some history into how the children acquired the various labels.
